God knows that it is hard to "look away". But it becomes easier as one matures in Christ. It's easier to avert your eyes, turn the channel, turn the page in the store ad. The faster that we realize what is happening, and go to Christ with it, consciously or unconsciously, the more crowns we will lie up in Heaven to lay at the Lord's feet. And I want to say that I've seen men do this, and it's always a moment of pause for me. I admire the ones that are so disciplined, so dedicated that they have their hearts filled with higher desires. Kudos to you brothers and sisters that do this! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) |

Wonder what the bible says about that.... I guess it's not just all up to us men? The flip of her hair as she walks away, and a smile over the shoulder that holds an unknown promise.... Should she be doing that? Perhaps a good question would be "why" is she doing that, or any of us do it? I have often shared with people that one of the main reason we give way to sin is because it a worship problem. Consider traveller's submitted verse concerning Eve, she saw the fruit and that it was goodly and to be desired, or coveted . . . and it would make her like God . . . and if so then . . . she too could be worshiped. I think that is a big part of the problem with flirting and immodest dress, people want others to admire/worship/covet them. Remember, covetousness is the sin of idolatry, which is worshiping the wrong thing. It seems that part of the sin nature is some how connected to people wanting to be worshiped, though we would call it liked or adored or respected. Another part of the problem is people just or they are wanting, coveting, worshiping the wrong things. You can see it when people get angry when they don't get the respect they DESERVE and they get bitter and hateful. That is why we need guard our hearts and the hearts of others as well. How many have we caused to stumble because stirred up these ungodly desires in another? Do we think we are to be excused? This is why we the "poor in spirit" attitude where we know we are unworthy, and meekness whereby we give the glory where Him who it truly belongs. Woe to them who covet the worship and praise of men, for they unwittingly make themselves the enemy of God. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) Good point! Ditto that! Wonderful post! This is certainly something that we all need to be conscious of. We can not completely escape the temptations of this world, unless we seclude ourselves completely. Those temptations are everywhere, so we have to condition ourselves to respond appropriately. The first second that an unwanted thought crosses our mind we need to, in my opinion, acknowledge and rebuke the thought. I do not think it's a sin to have an impure thought cross our minds. To me, that's a temptation. It's what we do with that thought that matters. Do we dwell on it, incubate it, let it grow? Or do we acknowledge the thought and then recognize and admit that it is inappropriate and make the choice not to dwell on it?
And although this topic rightly focuses on the physical temptation of the opposite sex, the same "rule" applies to any other form of temptation. This world is full of things that we can desire: money, cars, homes, jobs, the list goes on and on. I'm not saying that striving for "better" is wrong, but if we are striving for that outside of our committment to Christ, then those things quickly become as an idol for us, and they get in the way of our serving God. We need to constantly be on guard and make sure that what we are striving for is in line with God's plan for us! |

Exactly. God doesn't care so much about the temptation, He cares much more about our response to the temptation. That is why He allows temptations to come before us. He is constantly testing us, checking our faithfulness. Don't be ashamed if you fail, simply acknowledge your failure, turn it over to Christ, and move on. You will be stronger the next time. That doesn't mean you won't fail again, it does mean that you will recognize the temptation and will respond to it quicker and easier.
