Many of you know how I feel about the chat room..but would like to hear from others. Many of the rooms are labeled for specific interest or for specific uses. My questions arewhy can we not encourage the teenagers to make use of the Teen room, those wanting to debate the use of mars hill, those wanting prayer and praise to ask more often if someone will meet them in the prayer room?
The upper room should be used for general chit chat as a stepping off point for other interests. Discussions get way too heated for our newer chatters and some of the older chatters. I understand these issues must be handled delicately but I think sometimes these discussions do more damage than good and would be better served in other rooms? This is not an attack on the moderators. The moderators do a wonderful job. This is only a suggestion and request for feedback. |

I agree with you in part. So amny times in the Upeer Room, newer members will see us talk about anything really and they get upset that we aren't praying or talking about the Bible. I, for one, have tried to explain to them the reasons for the different rooms. Some get too upset, say a few unkind words, and leave.
To me, I was under the impression, like you, that the Upper Room is for talk about anything, life in general. If someone needs prayer, they can ask for it there or go to the prayer room for a more closed atmosphere with other members with out getting interupted with other talk. |

I've only been around for a week. And as a new member, I agree with you Steve. It can get very frustrating.
I would also love to see the adults using the adult room. I have NO issue with getting to know the younger set, don't get me wrong. It's just that I have a 13 and 14 year old.. and I come here at times to talk with adults and adult issues. Jenni |

Well... that's why the rooms were made and it would be great if we made more use of them... the problem is... many times (most times?) when people are asked to move a conversation into a more appropriate room, they don't. ( As a kid when your parents had friends over, did your parents tell you to go to bed because it was time for the grown-ups to have their time; you would come out and ask for a glass of water just so you could stay in there a bit longer? Maybe that's kind of similar as to why people don't leave rooms sometimes... they don't want to be shuffled off somewhere else. (IMG:http://www.worthyboards.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )
But I agree, it would be great if more rooms were utilized more often. Most times, everyone is in one or two rooms (with a couple maybe in a third room), and some just can't keep up with how fast the room can scroll when a lot of conversations are taking place and they end up leaving. It would also help when people come in looking for something specific... like someone with a prayer request and their request gets "lost" in some commotion going on. We also see things like after a Bible study, people linger in the Bible Study room; chatters enter the room and comment about seeing chit chat rather than a study. And sometimes, some may be willing to change rooms, but the others are not (so it's either remain where the chatters are or go sit in the parking lot alone, lol). |

I would not want anyone to be isolated. I will do my best to suggest conversations be moved. I appreciate all you do seraph..you are a real blessing!!! |

LOL Seraph... yes i think i needed a "glass of water" quite often when my parents were watching TV late at night, or had friends over.
I wish there was an easy solution. Another site I belonged to just had a "menu" of rooms corresponding to their age range. You could see who was in each, and how many people were there. I think it makes it difficult to come into the main room and then have to leave from there. It seems.... rude (? )...... *shrugs*. Well, dispite the constant asking of my age (IMG:http://www.worthyboards.com/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) it is fun. |

I think that making age a clear distinction is a dumb idea. There is a youth room to utilize for youths that do want to discuss things dealing with youth , or to behave silly, but there are also those few youth who are mature and responsible enough to have civil debates, encourage other chatters, and participate in a real conversation; just as there are those adults who are immature and should go hang out away from the serious topics sometimes. Besides, a lot of chatters will put their age, and at least their gender in their chat profiles. If you have an issue with a chatter, or don't want to converse with that age or person, then change rooms, or put them on ignore. lol.
I completely agree about moving the convo's to other rooms. I mean how many times is tongues, the Holy Spirit, and other repetitive topics going to be discussed? There is NOTHING wrong with asking questions, with seeking and doing so in chat, but it should be done in a place where newcomers, and newbies won't get lost. AKA Bible Study, or Mars Hill or wherever. Just as those who want to praise and continually make comments about praising should go to the praise and worship room or whatever it is called. |
