The Plan is in place - see:

Schedule and more are here

Occasionally, someone comes into chat, and after a few minutes, abandons us because we are not Christian enough for them. It is true that we spend lot of time talking about food, politics, or rehashing topics that we have been over umpteen million times. In an effort to change the environment slightly, add something new, and try a litle painless self improvement and growth, I propose:

Omegaman's Bible reading plan
This is for those of us, who have become complacent in our Bible reading habits. Just after the first of the new year, I will begin a systematic schedule of Bible reading. If anyone is interested, I invite you to join with me. This is a very slow paced read, not agressive at all. My goal here, is to make the pace easy enough, that busy people can find time, and if you miss a day or two, it is easy to catch up. Even slow readers should not find this difficult.
I have divided the plan in such a way, that one or two whole chapters are done each day, so we leave off at 'natural' stopping places. This averages out to 53
verses per day.
Now, I just read the first days objective at a pace equivalent to what I would if I were reading aloud to someone and wanted them to be able to follow what
was said, and not be too bored from the pace being too slow - just a medium speed read, I guess. It took only 7 minutes. Can you spare 5 to 10 minutes a day to read the Bible?
My thinking is, that this will get some of us into the habit of reading the Bible again, for some, it may be the first time that you have read the Bible habitually.
If this goes well, we will go through the entire Bible this way. Many of you have never read the Bible all the way through, and most of you, will discover passages you never noticed before or forgot existed.
If we do this, then those of us who participate, will have recently read the same passages each day, and this will give us things to discuss in chat as questions
arise or insights are gained.
I'd like to know what you think about this, so please feel free to answer the survey questions, so I can rearrange the plan to fit with most peoples desires. Now the survey would only let me ask 3 questions, so, I am asking another one here:

One the assumption that you think this is a good idea and would like to participate, would you rather see this start sooner than beginning of next year?

If so, would you want to take a break from the plan over the holidays of November and December?

If you would be so kind as to repliy to these questions in a post, I would appreciate it - thanks a lot.

Im a bit confused and hope you will clarify this. Do you propose that you will post the bible in chat and we read there? Or are you asking us to read a portion prior to the time in chat and we have a discussion on the verses?

I think that would be best to start at the beginning of next year, as the holiday season is very time consuming and hectic.

I dont have any opinion on this.. There are lots of real friendly ppl on the chat that I love. One thing I would like to see though is what happened one day i was there.

Brother Chuck was leading a 30 minute prayer time and we prayed about everything from indivuduals to our own lives to the events in the world. And I thought that was so wonderful, even if it was on the internet!

I'm not saying that it has to be Brother Chuck but just more of those kinds of schedualed events where we can speak the the LORD together. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

I am proposing to post a schedule, like:

Jan 2 Matt chapters 1 and 2
Jan 3 Matt chappter 3

etc.

This will give people an easy paced read that should fit any schedule. They could do this during a lunch break, on a bus, in some quite time at home, while waiting in the car to pick up the kids or whatever. Then, on what ever days and what ever time they come into chat, there might be others around who had also recently read the same passages, since they have a common schedule. No formal discussions planned, but an opprtunity to talk in chat about it if they like, and certainly any admin choose to moderate a discussion should they choose to do so. . The main goal, is to get people reading the bible, who are not doing so now, and the tool of a formal schedule, and maybe a little peer accountability, might prompt people to do that.

If it works out, we can find out how the pace was for everybody, and make some adjustments, and have a plan to go through the whole Bible if we like, the first time for some people. Anyone who comes in later,m just picks up were the rest of us are and moves along with us. People can read in the version of their choice, as long a God's word is read, i will be a good thing.

Did that clarify it for you?

I voted that the pace was too slow... lol. That's only because I read too much, too fast. I think this is an excellent idea to get worthyites "on the same page" to promote biblical discussion in chat without a formal study. Although I do miss Steve's formal studies, as well. And, of course, you know me... I'll be there!

Thank you O-man.

I think the pace is a bit slow for me, but perhaps it will allow lots of time for discussion of the reading, which is what I'd like to participate in. Sounds good. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif)
