I'm realizing that I don't understand the spirit part of our body, our body is our house and I know its temporary, God gave us a brain to think with, how do we connect this with our spirit part? I'm born again and therefore God filled me with the Holy Spirit who lives in me and we all know the fruits, I have Gods spirit living in me and He's there to stay, so Gods Holy Spirit lives in me , when a person gets old or goes through depression their live can show the opposite of being filled with Gods Spirit, this puzzles me because I know the Holy Spirit is with us to stay, how does our spirit part (human and Gods Spirit )work?
Our soul is our body part? And how do we deal with our brain, spirit and flesh? I know I surrendered it to Jesus and He lives through me and in me and i thank Him for the Holy Spirit, but our flesh is so often in the way....................and our brain tries to make us think wrong (can be anything) I know we need to to wear the army of God and we don't need to make this difficult to understand, but its deep don't you think if you thnk about it?

Can anybody add to this?

Remember Paul's thorn in the flesh to keep him humble?

thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I think there are people here who can better answer your question than I can but just wanted to make one comment. When I first became born again, I felt a very clear separation between my body and spirit.. I felt like I was walking around in 2 bodies.. it didn't happen right away after I gave my life to Christ but about an hour later I noticed.

I dont know if other people are sensitive enough to have sensed this as I have but this experience put it into great perspective for me about our body being a housing for our spirit. You know that verse that our body is like a clay pot which can be easily broken.. this is very clear to me. My spirit is much stronger than my body.. and I was really careful with myself (body) when I realized this.

Now regarding our soul. God inhabits it.. he is in our Soul and we are in Him. Jesus' prayer in John 17:23 makes it clear if you want to give it a read.. This was abundantly clear to me too when I gave my life to Christ, I had a very brief vision of a man touching me.. he looked like my pastor but was very powerful!! It looked like the soul of my pastor and the glory of God was inside of his soul. This is all I can say for now.. John 17 makes it clear.

Hello Blien,
Thank you for answering this question ,the Bible also mentions to ask for the Holy Spirit after becoming a Christian , I know we are sealed with the Holy Spirit the minute we are saved ( 30 years ago) you know we have our ups and down and we are really spirituel beings living in our body which will rot after we die. We can't see our spirit but its either from God of the world, by doing the wrong thing lets say gossip we grieve the Holy Spirit and we do things in the flesh, where does that flesh gets their power from since we have a new created heart from God, I know the Bible says as long as we live in our body we will struggle with this..do we give the Holy Spirit enough power to do His work through us? He can only do this if we let Him and that's takes constant dedication from our brain .I never heard of a brain going to heaven, so its connected to our Spirit, does our brain gives us the trouble with earthly sins? brain, Spirit, Soul, God which is exactly responsible for what? I know that I can't do anything good and have no power to live the Christian life without the Holy Spirit.

I know I make thinks probably complicated................... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Greetings, angels4u, IMO the spirit is connected closely to our minds this is why the Apostle Paul wrote:
"(1) I Beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (2) And be not conform to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good , and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:1-2

To the Church in Ephesus Paul wrote these words: "(23) And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (24) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." Ephesians 4:23-24

Paul writing to the Church of Corinth explain how we know the things of God, he said that the spiritual man has the Spirit of God so we know God's mind because of His Spirit,
I Corinthians 2:11-16
(11) For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
(12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
(13) Which things also we speak, not in the word which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
(14) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
(15) But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
(16) For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

This is why Paul said: "(24)O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? (25) I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin." Romans 7:24-25

The Apostle John speaks of this also: "But ye have an unction form the Holy One, and know all things." (I John 2:20)
"But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him." (I John 2:27)
We know this is the Holy Ghost by looking at the Gospel of John: "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26) See also John 16:13-15 and Psalms 139:23-24.

Sorry about the long post, hope this helps you angels4u, may God richly bless you.

Body, soul and spirit are the triune make-up of man. The body is the "temple". The soul controls the emotions and the spirt is the part that "knows".

Paul84 posted a reference to the spirit knowing that is found in 1 Corinthians 2:11.

Trying to make it as simple as possible ...

Spirit ... the driving force behind the human ... the entity that is alive, even after physical death.
Soul ... The personality of the spirit, emotions.
Body ... the tool we use to function in this life where the brain is the control panel.

Does this help?

First of all, this will be my very first post on this forum since i only registered yesterday. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself; Hello everyone, my name is Wilbert and I look forward on sharing my passions for the WORD and in building friendship with all of GOD's children.

In regards to the topic, just like to share how I look it... the soul is our true self entity = the body is the temple where our soul resides. The mind is part of the soul as the brain is part of the body. The spirit is what binds the two together.

It is like, let say there is table and on that table there are 4 different kind of bottle/can of soft drinks. lets us say that one is a coke, the other is sprite, one is orange and the last maybe milk. each of the four drink has their own unique identity as to compare to our individuality. now the bottle or the can represent the body, the liquid inside represent who we are, meaning the soul. Together what keeps us pure is the spirit. The spirit is in us.

when you open a bottle, some one can say that you letting the spirit out... does that make sense..

Moved to Apologetics: The Substance of Man: Body, Spirit, Soul

In agreement with the above comments I will re-iterate:

The body (bios) is the outer man. It is the faculties by which we perceive and interact with the physical realm.

The soul (psuche) is the inner man. It includes the mind, the emotions, and the will of man.

The human spirit (pneuma) is the vessel designed to contain the Spirit of God. It is by the spirit that we perceive the spiritual realm and spiritual things. The human spirit contains the conscience, the intuition, and fellowship with God. The spirit of man is, at the time of the redemption, regenerated with the life of God; and it is by the spirit that the believers are renewed, and through which the believers are saved daily.

Thank you for all your replies, its really a mystery isn't it? Something we have to experience, its so good to know that we are SEALED by the Holy Spirit when we come to Jesus and adopted into Gods family, this body we live in and this earth we live on are only temperary,we are travelers marching to our eternal destenation , everyday brings us one day closer.....

Isn't it amazing that Jesus loves us so much that He died for our sins?? Isn't that amazing love???
And to know that Gods Spirit lives in you and me?

Maranatha Jessu come!

I'm curious, do you see these three things as independant of each other or intrinsincly linked. Is it possible that emotions also come from the body or that the soul has conscience?
