It was good for me to be afflicted... - Worthy Christian Forums

I have always loved the Psalms and today I was at it again. I listened to the audio of Psalm 119 in Biblegateway, and the verse that struck me was Psalm 119: 71,

71 It was good for me to be afflicted
so that I might learn your decrees. [color="#483D8B"][/color]

On my way to work, it kept repeating itself in my mind...good for me to be afflicted.

I know my life has been a breeze compared to most that I have read. I was blessed with responsible parents, a good family, not rich but a fairly comfortable life. We have had our share of troubles and difficulties, but I can say I was and still am very blessed. I am the only Christian in my family but I somehow have the assurance that salvation will come to other members of my family in God's own beautiful time.

Good for me to be afflicted? I look back and indeed the times that I have been closest to the Lord and really clung to His word to find assurances and promises where those times when I was afflicted. It was in those times when I not only knew Him as the bible says, but I experienced Him as the bible says...the great provider, my healer, my comforter, my Abba Father...and much much more.

Maybe for now, God is giving me rest from afflictions. My life is good. I am well provided for and most times I am happy and content. I sometimes think my greatest affiction is yet to come. There are times when loneliness and sadness hit me, but God's words always provide comfort.

So yes, the best of times were the worst of times...it was indeed good for me to be afflicted.
