I am a little disappointed with Facebook too...but it is a way to stay in touch..
I have several friends that I like keeping in contact with and this ican be a fun way to do that.. But what I am finding is there are those who just play with the game stuff and there is really little conversation or sharing .. I like the sharing and the talking, family, news, fun... but I do not care much for the silly game stuff available .. Mostly I just ignore the requests to "play"... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) You can start a "group" with only Worthy folks like other boards have done if you wanted to and make it closed to the public.. But keep in mind things like this draw away from the original board... I only have so much time I have for the internet and perhaps others too.. I am guessing others have more than one board they frequent .. With that in mind let us know what you decide ... |

I have found it difficult to put links to photos on the boards. Maybe I am just technically disadvantaged. But, on other places such as facebook it is easy. My suggestion, if possible, is to allow each profile page a place for an album. This could be controlled to a few photo's only. Give each person room for say 4 or 5 which they can change when they want to. The mod's could vet photo's before they are posted? I have made friends here beyond the site itself, and as we have got to know each other we have used facebook to look at each others photo's of things we are doing, church stuff, family, etc. I feel I am in a family here, and would like to share parts of my life visually as well. I think what I am suggesting is safe, especially as it would be vountary, and vetted by the mod's. Is this possible, and what do people think of the idea? I wanted to add this too.. it costs money to run a board and the more space for the folks the more money it costs to run it.. some places use adds to cover the costs of it but I really like the no adds here... |

Yes Tah, I agree with what you say, and am not sure about the money aspect (being inexperienced in web design and hosting I had not thought of that - sorry Worthy!), but I am not talking about an alternative to facebook, just perhaps a place where one can post a few pic's (moderated of course) for people to see.
I really enjoyed Manies fishing pics, but it seems such a convoluted way to get to post, and see them. |

I have not posted many pics but I have had no problem when I did...
just upload them to your photo storage spot and add the link to it.. |

I wanted to add this too.. it costs money to run a board and the more space for the folks the more money it costs to run it.. There are at least 1000 people from years back who have no posts or just a few, and haven't been on since. Maybe they could be taken off. It would free up a lot of space. Is this bad?
some places use adds to cover the costs of it but I really like the no adds here... |

On another board, they had a special thread for people to post family pics on. We could do that here. Who's brave enough to start?

I see someone already pointed out the cost aspect. Bill mentioned photos of 1200 x 1200.
Stop and think about how that works. Each pixel can be a different color, so a picture file has to contain a table of sorts that describes each pixel. Many pics have the possibility for 16.2 million distinct hues and shades. This makes picture files very large. Fortunetly, most files have compression schemes to reduce their size, but they still take up a lot of drive space. Resources do cost money. This is why you will see advertisements on sites that host photographs, or, you will be charged a fee, or, they will be selling something (like reprints). You cannot expect a ministry like worthy to bear the cost of such things, without a similar structure of adds and sales. The problem with add revenue, is that often, the advertisers do not pay their bills, it seems everyone on the internet expects everything to be free, lol. Regarding the removal of old posts to free up space, a lot of the old posts have good information. I like reading older posts and would hate to see them go. You have heard the old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words? In terms of storage space, that is an understatement. To make room for bills example of a 1200 x 1200 picture, you would have the remove 135 posts of 1000 words each (and those are longer than the average post). This post is about 450 words for example. To my thinkng, the proper way to have photos here, is for those who have the photos, to pay for an account through donations. If you are using the services and benefiting from them, why wouldn't you want to donate and help out? However, I think that the vetting issue, is harder. Think of the possibilities for trolls to post porn pics or other undisireable images. The would be able to use up resources as well as offend people. This would make vetting necessary, but I do not think Worthy has the human resources to vet the potential number of pictures, and even if they could, the delay in doing so would make it less than satisfying in our instant gratification world. The mods have plenty to do without that added burden. I do think the pay to play model has some potential though, because not only do the users get to carry their own weight and contribute to the ministry, but it is unlikely that trolls would want to donate to a ministry to post nonsense pictures, and if posting an offensive picture had the effect of cancelling your picture account without refund, people might be careful and self police there pics. Just some thoughts. |

How about we just post a link to our photobucket account? Some people have done that already.

What's a photo bucket account Kat? Told you I was techno challanged! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
And, Omega, your idea of a subscription type page could work, especially if it also helped the ministry? |

Well, believe it or not, I'm more techno challenged than you (and everyone else). But I did manage to open a photobucket account. Just go to photobucket.com, and follow the steps. If you have any pics saved on your computer, you can upload them to photobucket. |
