People are inclined to confuse tithe with offering.

I believe God wants us to tithe to keep us from being self-centered thus keeping us from forgetting the reason we are still here in these bodies in the first place, The Great Commission.

yes, God knows we have to live, too. I don't know anybody that can give 100 % of their check.

yes. God knows we need money to live. I don't know of anybody that is so rich that they can give 100% of their pay check.
Tithing is be willing to give off the top the first 10% before spending any money on yourself.

An offering is giving ou of your heart, be it 10% or 100 %. I believe when Jesus spoke about the old woman at the temple, He was trying to convey the importance of generosity and faith above and beyond what her duty to God was.

Is there a magic number like 10% that when given, we can go on our merry way and do our own will? It all belongs to him and every part of you. He gives it all to us, and he can take it all away in a heart beat to prove it to you. Neither He nor we will be happy until your everything is 100% at His disposal. Do what He wills in all things, let Him lead you.

so are you suggesting we all stop paying rent and move into the Church? Because that is the only way we can pay 100% of our retirment check.

One is necesssary, because God requires it, and one is because you want to.
