Thought this would be a good discussion. Many people in churches today never read their Bibles complete through. Have you?
Do you have a "favorite" book in the Bible and why?

I'll begin. yes, I have read the entire Bible. It is hard for me to say any one book is a favorite, however, I do turn to Isaiah or the Psalms often because I find so much encouragement and wisdom. These two books tell us so much about the love of our Lord and point us to the gospels.

I also turn to Matthew 5 and 6 often times because when I read the instruction of Jesus after I have heard or read something like obey My Word, I can get a clearer picture of staying connected to the Vine. I am often times moved to examine my heart and ask Him to help me make changes. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would bring His word to our rememberance. We must read it and allow the Lord to enlighten us as to what it says and as we go further and further in His word we learn more and more about what He has promised us and how to live in an evil time and still have a desire and ability to be holy as He is holy.

Yes I have! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/emot-highfive.gif)

I love the book of Deuteronomy! So much is in those chapters! I find it so inspiring and uplifting - how the Lord rescues his people and calls them to a better place - and remains in our midst through it all!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

Amen Lord Jesus (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

Yes, I have read the bible through. There are some books I have read more times than others.

When I became a Christian, the first book I read was Ecclesiastes, and I've read it many times since. My most read books are Psalms and Proverbs. I also love Ruth.

But I like them all...

Yes, I have read the entire Bible. My favorite book...wow... this is hard to decide!!! I love the Gospel of John... (Walking in the light ... 5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin. 8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives...)

Psalms soothe my mind and heart and give me strength and restore my sanity in hard times... I have loved them most of my life. I think that the Song of Solomon is beautiful and lyrical ... I turn to Proverbs to realize what commonsense and fairness and honesty is... I love Isaiah .... there's just so much beauty, prose, truth in the Bible - there is something in every single book of the Bible that has a piece of my heart...

We are in a reading program this summer and are reading it through again - I see and feel something new every time I read it!!!

Funny, but the first time I read the bible cover to cover was before I was saved. It did not make a lot of sense to me at the time, but I wanted to see what it was all about, and did it as an academic exercise. (God moves in mysterious ways does he not?).

Now, yes I have (I find Numbers very painful to read (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) ) My favourite book is probably John, just because it is filled with light, love and hope. Probably after John, Psalms.

Yes

I love them all but if I had to pick one book as my favorite it would Isaiah.

His precise clarity centuries in advance of the Messiah is just astounding.

Yes I have.

It's amazing what you find in there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

But no, I can't pick a favorite. It all depends on where I'm at and what I'm going through.

The bible is just so full of inspiration for whatever situation you might find yourself in...its hard to pick a favorite. I love reading the writings of Paul, Solomon, and even David. There is so much truth and history in their words. I think if you wanted to pin me down to a favorite I'd have to pick Habakkuk. In three short chapters he encompasses the Christian walk with God. Habakkuk chapter 3 is one of the most powerful prayer scriptures any Christian could experience...imo.

Hab 3:17-19
Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deers feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.
