Home Made Ketchup

It's the only ketchup recipe that I've ever had that stood up even close to as good as popular brands. It's different, but it's REALLY good! It's important to reduce this for a long time, like 4 hours or so. It will thicken just a bit as it cools.

INGREDIENTS:

6 large tomatoes, quartered
1 bulb fennel, chopped
1 yellow onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
10 whole cloves
2 whole star anise pods
1 tablespoon salt

DIRECTIONS:

In a large saucepan combine tomatoes, fennel, onion, garlic, sugar, molasses, vinegar, cloves, anise pods and salt. Reduce over low heat until mixture becomes very thick.

Puree mixture in a blender and strain through a mesh strainer. Chill and store in refrigerator.

Peach Cobbler

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and white sugar. Stir in 1 cup of the reserved liquid from the peaches and the milk until smooth. Pour the batter evenly into the bottom of the dish over the margarine. Do not stir. Spoon peaches over the batter.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top is golden.

Hot Dog Sauce

I like it with a bite, but you can adjust it to your taste. Top the hotdogs with ketchup, mustard, the hotdog sauce, chopped onions and, if you're a real "dogophile," add some relish, cole slaw and possibly cheese and sauerkraut for a real "all-the-way!" This recipe makes enough for freezing and using later.

INGREDIENTS:

2 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1 cup water
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/2 tablespoon pepper
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
crushed red pepper flakes to taste

DIRECTIONS:

Crumble ground beef into a Dutch oven over medium heat. Stir in water, and mash ground beef thoroughly with a potato masher. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, salt, pepper, sugar, and chili powder; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer, 60 to 90 minutes, until the sauce reaches a medium consistency that is not too soupy.

NOTE:

Hot dogs can be a real subjective thing. Around here, we really like Carolina Packers and Brightleaf brands, as well as Carolina Packers "Red Hots"

Jordanian King namess 15 year old son as heir

Jordanian king names 15-year-old son as heir
Jul. 3, 2009
ap and jpost staff , THE JERUSALEM POST

Jordan's King Abdullah II named his eldest son as heir to the throne Thursday, ending five years of speculation over his successor. Abdullah's move is aimed at avoiding the uncertainty over succession that dogged his father, King Hussein.

In 1999, Jordanians were baffled to see Hussein - on his death bed struggling with cancer - strip his brother, Prince Hassan, of the crown and give it to Abdullah. Hassan had been groomed for the Hashemite throne for more than three decades.

By naming Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah crown prince, Abdullah can groom the 15-year-old for the throne from a young age. Hussein's appointment came in a royal decree released by the palace. It said the crown prince will hold the title and "enjoy the rights and privileges of his post" effective immediately.

Under the constitution, the crown prince has a largely ceremonial role, representing the monarch in ribbon-cutting ceremonies and carrying out other symbolic functions. He has no official political post.

Thursday's move was widely expected once the position became vacant in November 2004, when Abdullah removed the title from his half brother, Prince Hamzah, in a sudden palace shake-up.

Hamzah, 29, had held the post when Abdullah first ascended to the throne in February 1999 following the death of their father.

At the time, Abdullah said Hamzah's position as crown prince was in line with his father's wishes, but later stripped him of the title because it "restrained his freedom" to study, travel and live a normal life.

Under the constitution, the crown is automatically ordained to the king's eldest son, unless the monarch decrees otherwise.

Prince Hussein - a high school student in Jordan - is the eldest of King Abdullah and Queen Rania's four children.

Like his father and other members of Jordan's ruling Hashemite dynasty, Hussein claims ancestry to Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

Losing a friend??

I just got back from a Christian getaway with my girlfriend. There we both got a great time to focus on Him and weed out sin. We both decided that we need to take a long break to let old dogs die and new life come in... we've been sexually immoral together and used to argue very often over little things. But now we're both refocused and we're going to split so again we let the sin die. But I talked to my pastor the other day about the situation, and he said something that surprised me. He said that not only should my girlfriend and I not consider dating/marriage again, but he also said that we should never talk again. She's not only my girlfriend, she's my best friend. I keep thinking to myself, there has to be another way, right? I just feel so connected to this woman. Help.

Point of Praise

As a new mother- my son who is only 3 months old has already taught me so much. When I look at him I see such innocents and love. When he smiles at me it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. His smile is so genuine and pure- his joy radiates abundantly, there is nothing held back.

I have been struggling for the past few months with the concept of God’s love for me. I feel so tainted by the world, so blemished from my scars. How can God Love me so much? I know it’s true but I can’t grasp it. When I come to God on my knees I see myself hideous in His sight, saved through Christ’s grace, but still scarred from my past. I am nothing like a Child so pure and innocent…. I have been stained from many years of battles lost.

But then a gentle whisper in the quiet of my heart stirs my thoughts. When Jesus cleanses us from our sins, he does so COMPLETELY. When God looks at me, He sees me through Christ’s Blood. Wow. God looks upon me as though I have never sinned. He doesn’t even remember my faults. My sins are as far from me as the east is from the west. What a revelation, no longer will I dwell in the sorrow and guilt of my past for I am made perfect in Christ. When my Father in Heaven looks upon my face, he sees me as a Child, innocent and pure. Praise God. Thank you Lord.

Psalms 103:11-14

“11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;”

Romans 8:35-38

“35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
36 As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."[l]
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:28-30
28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,[j] who[k] have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Hebrews 8:12
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more."
