Interesting read. In the comments a person said we need to spend more on education. Where has he been?
We spend much more on education today and still our performance is down. Why?

Children used to say 'I have an eighth grade education'. That education was something most college students of
today do not achieve.

Education depends on who is running the store!

Ya I read the same comment. Funny how progressive solutions multiply the problem. The article was actually opposite what the commenter was saying. We pour so much into education and it's created a huge beast that needs fed all the time but it keeps getting worse.

How many people have you heard say " I remember those tuff years, some of the best years of my life." or "I seemed so much happier back then but it's crazy because I had nothing."

We relied on what we had, not the cash flow pouring in.

...count its highly effective teachers, involved parents and committed students.

The rub here -

All the gov't can do is regulate the teachers (i.e. "No Child Left Behind").

Getting the parents to be involved and getting students to be committed though? Can government really do anything about these?

Well said ZEMKE. I remember people somewhat older than me saying they were poor but they didn't know it because everyone lived just like they did.

I think we will soon be getting an opportunity to see how we can survive in hard times.

When people have nothing they turn to God because they know that no one else can help them. This forces our reliance on Him and not on our income or welfare.
