True Fasting Isaiah 58
58 “Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their rebellion
and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.2
For day after day they seek me out;
they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near them.3
‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
and you have not noticed?’
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
and exploit all your workers.4
Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.
You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.5
Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?6
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?7
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?8
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a]
will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.9
Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,10
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.11
The Lord will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.12
Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.13
“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight
and the Lord’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,14
then you will find your joy in the Lord,
and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”

Thank you Gary!
I wanted to go on a long fast, but seeing how I go to college fulltime and I have two young daughters that I care for on my own I decided that an every other day fast would be effective as well. I am really trying to seek God, I am hungry for Him (more than for food lol!).
There is a church that does an annual 21 day fast starting the first of the year, and the pastor of that church wrote a book, it is rather good! It is called Fasting written by Jentezen Franklin. His church has a congregation of 10,000! And other churches from around the country join in as well, lots of prayers are answered, and lots of miraculous healings happen!
I really really believe God has been helping me get through the cravings, because I thought it would be alot harder than it is. I guess as soon as He started revealing Himself to me everyday in odd ways it has gotten easier to abstain from food. I am trying not to boast, because I know it isn't from my power, it is ALL God!
This fasting made me realize that when I would just pray before without depriving myself of my desires it wasn't humbling myself before God, I have to come before God with all of my heart and a body/soul hungry for Him.
The first few days of my fast God brought someone before me, he sat down at my table at school and said "I am on the fence about God". So I am praying I can lead my new friend to the Lord, he seems very hungry for God as well! Keep in mind I didn't even know this person! Didn't even know his name!
And on the first day of class, which would have been like the 2nd or 3rd day of fasting, my safety and health teacher goes on a tangent about absolute truthes! I had been studying this all summer! So I was one of the only ones in class that could grasp what he was saying. He said "is truth relative to me or you?" I said no and he said "why?" and I told him it is because there is an absolute truth. But I was astonished that he was discussing this in an electrical health and safety class! And yesterday in class my PLCs teacher went on a tangent about how he was against getting any sort of micro chip implanted in his head he said "I might as well carve 666 into my friggin head!", I thought that was quite amusing! He said he was a conservative old fogey!
On the FIRST day of my fast I was making lunch for my 2 daughters and I saw one last pickle in the pickle jar and has a sudden craving, but quickely fled from the temptation he he he! Later that day I was reading one of my fasting books and it came to a new section called MORE THAN JUST A PICKLE! Whoa!! It went on to say that it might look like just a pickle, and the devil will tell you it is just a pickle, God wont mind...but He does, it is breaking a fast! It said to flee from evil, and gave scripture. I thanked God big time for that! As well as for the other things that happend this week!
This was only my first week of "intermittent fasting" but God revealed Himself to me in several more ways that I CANNOT chalk up to coincidence! No one could! Now every morning on my drive to school I pray to God and tell Him I look forward to getting closer to Him and I can't wait to see what He will reveal to me! I thank Him for all my blessings. And I continue to pray that my ex husband will become saved. That is one major reason for my fasting
