Yes yes I know prophets are a touchy subject and I know ppl say there arent anymore but thiis is a legit question and not a debate. I am needing to speak to a prophet and I am not comfortable saying why in public.
I am Extremely careful when it comes to this stuff so I require the person to prophecy something about me or a soon event and if it comes true then I can accept them but saying a general thing will happen will not work like saying you will go through times of testing or something.
That's not how prophecy works. What you're describing is divination, a big no-no for Christians.
The prophetic gift operates according to the will of God, and for His purposes, not man's. Now you could ask God to give you clear insight or to even confirm something you feel He has called you to do, but the Spiritual gifts do not work like a light-switch. The only Spiritual gift a believer can initiate is praying in tongues for self-edification. All others manifest according to His will.
Now, all that being said, it is His will that believer be built up, counseled, encouraged, and exhorted and He often does so through those in the Body.
Perhaps you need to go to a church where the Spiritual gifts are functioning and allow God to do His thing in His time? And go humbly and in faith knowing God can speak a prophetic word over you through someone in the congregation.
Additionally, you don't need a legitimate "prophet" to have that done. Anyone in the Body can prophesy, all they need to do is be obedient to God and seek the gift to be used in them and God will do the rest.
Legitimate prophets have very important roles within the Body of believers related to leadership and the establishment of God's local, sometimes universal, Body of believers. They don't necessarily run around prophesying over congregants. They should work closely with pastors to advise, give prophetic insight to what God is doing locally and universally, and bless the socks off of that ministry if the pastor receives them. Also, they are often used in intercessory roles for the local Body of believers.
