FORETELLING OF CHRIST  (Isaiah - Malachi)

The prophets were men whom God raised up during the dark days of Israel`s history. The period of the prophets in Israel covered five hundred years from the ninth to the fourth century B.C.  These prophets spoke fearlessly to kings and people alike of their sins and failures.

The office of the prophet was instituted in Samuel`s time. When the kingdom was divided and Judah and Israel were established as separate monarchies, the great prophets appeared. There were four major and twelve minor prophets.

The captivities of Israel, (the northern kingdom) and of Judah, (the southern kingdom) are largely the theme of the Old Testament prophets. These are called the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities. Some of the prophets served before the exile and some afterwards.

The prophet not only spoke of judgment that would come to pass to the people because of their sin, but he also foretold future events. The events of which he spoke concerned the nation of Israel in the main. Other peoples were mentioned only as they came in contact with Israel.

In the Prophetic section Christ is proclaimed. We are told of His names, titles, vocations, ministry, and of His sacrificial death, resurrection, and elevation to the right hand of God.

Hi mabel,

Yes, especially in those days. Now the major and minor prophets are not according to importance but length.

It is also important to note that although the nation of Israel was special its purpose was to teach the other nations about God. However as we see, they, themselves had to learn that (about God) first.
