CHRIST THE CENTRE OF THE BIBLE. 1 & 2 Thessalonians.

1 & 2 THESSALONIANS - Christ is Manifested.

The Apostle Paul, accompanied by Timothy and Silas had spent a short time in Thessalonica and many people became believers.  Paul and the others caused such a stir that they had to move on to Berea, Athens and Corinth. It was from here that Paul wrote the first letter and sent it by Timothy.

Timothy returned with a favourable report that was a great comfort to Paul, however there were some faults to be corrected. Some of the Thessalonians held some false views concerning the Lord`s coming. They were worried about some who had died, fearing that they would not have any part in the rapture and glory of the Lord`s return. Others were so overwhelmed by the truth of Christ`s return that they had neglected their daily tasks.

Thus Paul writes this heart-to-heart letter to correct these wrong views and inspire and comfort these new converts.

`...we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children.....(and) you know how we exhorted, and comforted and charged everyone of you, as a father does his own children.` (1 Thess. 2: 7 & 11)

The two letters contain twenty different references to the coming of the Lord.  In the first letter there is the blessed hope of the believers, when the Lord shall draw them up to Himself. It is mentioned in the closing of every chapter.

`...to wait for His Son from heaven....` (1 Thess. 1: 10)

`...in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming.` (1 Thess. 2: 19)

`...at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints.` (1 Thess. 3: 13)

`...caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.` (1 Thess. 4: 17)

`...may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.` (1 Thess. 5: 23)

Then in the second letter there is the coming of the Lord at the end of the tribulation to deal with the lawless one.

`And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.` (2 Thess. 2: 8)

Hi Marilyn

Isn't it wonderful that Paul comforted the Thessalonians, and in turn we are also comforted, as these things are for all believers.  We also need to be open to correction - reproof and rebuke - it shows humility and the understanding that the Lord chasteneth those whom He loves.

Secondly it is so exciting to read these things and look up, for our redemption draweth nigh!

Ah yes the rapture is this where you get the term pre trib from as I don’t think that I have come across those actual words. and is this 'term' not in the rest of the NT

Hi SisterActs2,

So true. Wonderful truths that the Lord has shared in His word for us the Body of Christ. We truly live in exciting times.

thanks for sharing, Marilyn.

Hi mabel,

The term `rapture,` is from a Latin word like that, and that is why people use it for the `catching away.` Then because we believe that we will be caught away prior to the trib, the judgment on the nations, then that is why we are called pre-trib, believers.

a bit of jargon there, but hope it explains some what. Marilyn.

oh that is indeed interesting and so this term is used  between Acts and Romans and the letters of Paul then?

Hi mabel,

The details of the `catching away` is only in 1 Thess. However the why and when of that event is in Acts to Rev.

Hi mabel,

Yes, but it will be in summary form.

When caught away -

Eph. 4: 13  When the Body has come to the maturity of the faith, by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3: 20 & 21. God then sends Jesus to receive the Body of Christ. That will be the first rulership restoration to begin.

How caught away.

1 Thess. 4: 13 - 18. Jesus will descend to the clouds and draw us up to Himself. He will bring those who have died previously. We will all then ascend to heaven.

Where caught away to.

Rev. 3: 21. We will go to the Lord`s own throne, (seat of authority) in the third heaven. There we will witness His investiture with authority and power from there. (At the moment He is at the Father`s right hand on His throne, interceding for us.)

What we will do there.

Rev. 4: 11  & 5: 9 & 10 We will acclaim that Jesus is worthy to rule over all.

1 Cor. 6: 2 & 3. Then we will be part of heaven`s court judging fallen angels and the world system.

In eternity.

Rev. 3: 7 - 13. We will have access to all God`s great kingdom.

Hope that helps and probably brings up more questions. That`s fine. Marilyn.
