World Rulers - Forming of the Nations.

Q. How did the Nations form?

After God judged mankind at Babel the people were scattered, North, South & East. They became different ethnic groups, nations speaking different languages according to Noah`s three sons.

Shem, Ham & Japheth.

`These were the sons of Shem (or Ham, or Japheth) according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, according to their nations. ` (Gen. 10: 31. 5, 20)

ARABIA: Shem`s sons settled in Arabia and to the east.

`...their dwelling-place was from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the mountains of the east.`(Gen. 10: 30)

AFRICA: Ham`s sons settled in Africa to the South.

Nimrod, a descendant of Ham was a mighty hunter & his descendants worked their way up the Tigris river, then south through Canaan to Africa. (summary) (Gen. 10: 9 & 19)

EUROPE: Japheth`s sons settled in Europe to the north.

`...from these the coastland peoples of the Gentiles were separated into their own lands...` (Gen. 10: 5)

Nation – Gk. word `ethnos,` meaning a race of the same habit, a tribe of people.

hello Marilyn

its quite interesting that once, all men spoke the same language. it is helpful to see the bare bones of it all Marilyn. it helps to give me a starting point in my continued studies.

Nation,  its  interesting seeing the definition. it started out that way but then God scattered them and they all started to speak different languages and become culturally different

Hi mabel,

Yes I like to just do the `bottom line` sometimes as it brings out what God is doing. Sometimes we can get lost in all the detail. If we have the main line, then details make more sense in relation to the whole.

Interesting about the languages. I expect different families settled in different places & language would develop according to what they were doing & their surrounds. Even today our language is still developing with new words all the time. Think of all the words associated with the computer & the world wide web.

Many languages are similar -eg French, Italian, Spanish....etc.

thats it exactly the foundation of things.

in regards to languages. what i also find fascinating is the local dialect. although that is fast being lost due to the influx of multi cultural society....

Hi mabel,

Ha...Aussie accent I heard, came from the children of different migrants who played together but couldn`t understand each other. What they did was lower the top accent & bring up the bottom ones, & thus you have the long Australian drawl. (lol)

Marilyn.
