  1. No this is not "flesh" vs Spirit but "soul" vs "spirit". So the first question is what is the soul? SOUL The Lord Jesus called it the "heart of man", and by that we should understand it is one's innermost, immaterial being -- the real "you". Within the soul is the heart (the emotions), the mind (thoughts) and the will (decision-making), and also "the flesh" (the old Adamic sin nature). Therefore all evil proceeds "out of the heart of man" (Mk 7:21-23). SPIRIT There is another component to the soul which is "the spirit" -- that part of you which understands spiritual things and communicates with God (1 Cor 2:11-14). In the "natural man" the spirit is dead, but the soul is alive. At the New Birth, God "quickens" the spirit -- makes it alive by placing the Holy Spirit within (Eph 2:1,5). This is "regeneration" and "renewing of the Holy Ghost" (Tit 3:5). This constitutes the "spiritual man" or "the inner man". So the Word of God is like a two-edged sword which separates the functions of the soul from the spirit. It exposes the sins that are within the soul ("the thoughts and intents of the heart"), but it also provides a spiritual weapon to the spirit. Our spirits wield the Sword of the Spirit against Satan and all his evil spirits, and the whole armour of God is spiritual armour (Eph 6:10-18).

  4. Hi Shiloh 357, As we know `naos,` can be `a dwelling place, inner sanctuary or pagan shrine.` However when Jesus refers to the temple built on Mt Moriah he uses the word `heiron,` meaning sacred, priestly edifice, temple. That to me speaks volumes. Marilyn.

  5. that is what I wanted to hear from you brother. Job had more than a problem, he lost his children. I almost lost mine, that is hard, but God is good. I don't want to bang heads on you with this, I want you to see something instead. If you will just for me take God's love, God's goodness, the fact He has been so good to many here on the forums, then read and meditate on this. Let me paint this for you. Satan comes and speaks to Job. Satan has a theme, he always has that stupid theme he continues to bring to our attention, our mind, in our sight. It's how he causes mental illness. It starts with a suggestion. They can plant thoughts in your head through TV. You cast it down, but after continually hammering you with this, showing you some stupid document that it might be true, a person can buy into it. TV can subliminally mind control you. Well, I can tell you, many are in the nut house today that believe this. They put tin foil on their head to stop the mind controlling waves. It sounds crazy to us, but they believe it, it's fact to them. Now look: Curse God Job, you die, your kids die, you loose everything. Just curse God, and it's over for you buddy. Unlike David, Job did not know God as the protector, the one that slays thousands of troops that come at you. Job feared God, Job did not have a working love relationship with God. Satan used this. Satan comes to Job, and says............. Your kids Job, they are drinking, they are together and they just might be cursing God in their heart. You never know Job, but one thing for certain. If they have cursed God Job, you loose ever single one of them. They will be dead Job, your seed, your heritage, all gone. So, Job, who is listening to this starts to sacrifice animals, for Job said, "My Kids might have cursed God in their hearts, I must make atonement for them, just in case." THUS JOB DID CONTINUALLY The Sabeans and the Chaladeans where close by. A band of rotten men, and the reports of their evil where abounding. Job had great concern, what if they came, what would Job do? Job had no rest, he worried day and night. What if they came (Chaladeans, and Sabeans), what if His kids were cursing God? Job wants things right, but is perplexed, in fear, in worry. Job is acting on all Satan is presenting to him. It was Satan who said............ does Job serve you for nought, you hurt him God, you put your hands on him and he will curse you to your face. The same thing Satan put in Job's mind concerning his Children. The Same thing on the mind of Job's wife saying, "Why hold onto your integrity, curse God and die." You see the theme Shiloh? Curse God, and die. Your kids Job, might just be cursing God. You don't know, but just in case....... Rom_6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Job is running around, not at peace, not at rest, Satan has him acting on every lie He is feeding Job. There is not even a scripture saying if you curse God you die. Satan made that up, a lie, a fear. Satan came to God............. You hurt him God, Does Job serve you for nothing? You put a hedge around him, blessed the work of his hands, but if you hurt him God, he will Bless (Barak) curse you to your face. .He will blame you God. God was not going to hurt Job. God said it was without cause. but God saw Satan interact with Job, Saw Job follow and act on the fear Satan put in Job, Satan had a place. Job had more Faith in what Satan was telling him, than in God who would protect Him. 58 times we are told to Fear not 48 times to be not Afraid. Shiloh said: If you truly believe that, then you know the day Satan attacked was the day He had a place. Job's Sons and Daughters came together was the day. You know that God was not giving permission, but stating a fact after watching Job obey Satan in all his fears. All that Job has, is in your power. You know, that if we follow after Satan, act on his lies, things don't come out well as it's written, Give not the devil a place. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came. (Job 3:25-26) Can you see Brother, Our Great and awesome God was not at fault, neither gave permission? I just want you to see it, you don't have to admit anything. You can't follow the lies of the devil, and not give him a rightful place. God will not break his own Word and stop the devil. As the devils accused Jesus of tormenting them before it's time. You have lots of great things to share with many here, I want you to see God is so good, and never did what folks said he did concerning Job. 58 times to fear not. 48 times be not afraid. what did Job say? Be blessed.

  6. I'm afraid you missed my point. Look again at v 29. It says not to prostitute your daughter lest you defile *the land*. The land is Israel. These are commandments given to the Israelites *explicitly* in the context. Therefore I would not use v 29 here to argue against prostituting your daughter, I'd use a plethora of other verses which more clearly deal with believers in a general sense. The only thing I can take away from these verses is how God wanted Israel and how He wanted the Israelites to behave. Gaining insight into what we believers should do from that is very tricky business.

  7. While I respect the believes of others, I do not see any Bible basses that says having a beard is wrong. While you would not attend a church that had a pastor with long hair or allowed women in pants. I would not attend a church that made the rule that having a beard is wrong. Not because I am a fan of beards, but because I think that such a teaching is not Biblical. So you see, we are not so different. As you choice to follow what you believe to be Biblical just as I do. I'm not understanding the prohibition against facial hair on a man either. We know Jesus Himself had a beard so how could it be wrong? He can do no wrong because He's God.

  8. Hi shiloh357, I believe that when Jesus spoke of the Temple, (rebuilt) then He used `heiron,` while the Apostle Paul could have also, but he used the word `naos,` to show the difference. Also, have you noted that the temple in the tribulation (Rev. 11: 1 & 2) is also referred to as `naos.` (Naos - a fane, a shrine, temple Not words to describe the Temple on Mt Moriah) Marilyn.

  10. okay so I been reading this verse and I have to ask what is the difference between a Spirit and Soul? For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 Is this referring to the flesh verses the Spirit?

  11. One of the amazing descriptions that I see in this vision is the Lord holding the seven stars. `....in His right hand He held seven stars.` (Rev. 1: 16) The Lord tells us that these represent the angels of the seven churches. `The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches...` (Rev. 1: 20) Looking at other scriptures I believe we can get further understanding of this picture. In the books of Amos & Job, we find references to the `seven stars.` `He made the Pleiades & Orion;...` (Amos 5: 8) `Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades,..` (Job 38: 31) Pleiades – Heb. `kiymah,` meaning seven stars, a cluster of stars. In the night sky, part of this constellation, the Pleiades, is visible. Seven stars can be seen by the naked eye, that is why the Pleiades is called the seven stars. However they are a magnificent constellation of millions of stars & are more than three thousand billion miles away. The Lord has made this great constellation which many believe control our planetary system, drawing it on a vast orbit that takes a thousand years to complete one circuit. Thus I believe the Lord is revealing to us not only His great authority in the natural sphere, but also that the magnitude of His authority is beyond our human reckoning. He is supervising the Body of Christ over the centuries & throughout the world. It is He who is in charge of the angels, sending them to minister to `those who will inherit salvation.` (Heb. 1: 14) Marilyn.

  14. bo, when I first got married, me and my wife were living on around $12,000 a year. And now, im my town, the cost of living is extremely high. An apartment which I paid 500 a month for in high school, is around $1000 a month. I understand the cost of living. I also know that in some cases, yes, some people plain can't afford it. But when I see a couple who are both working-and complaining about it, and theyre both driving brand new cars and carrying I-phones. well, Im sorry I have no sympathy for them. I ran into a single mom awhile back, who was living with her mom because "she couldn't afford her own place" well, initially, I felt sorry for her. But over time she kept complaining about having to share space with her mom, over and over, and I asked her why not get your own-she worked in the same line of work I do, with comparable pay. She told me she "couldn't afford it" upon further discussion, I found out she was paying 500 a month for her car, and drank every weekend. I sat down and explained to her that if she sold her car-and bought a older, reliable vehicle outright, and cut back on her drinking, she could easily afford rent. That didn't go over so well. People today do not understand what it means to live within ones means. They want what they want-and have no planning for the future. Like all these people whining about not making money at mcdonalds. No doh, its an entry level job, if your 30 and the only job you qualify for is mcdonalds, Im sorry, thats no ones fault but your own. You should be seeking to improve your job skills and knowledge in order to make you more appealing to better jobs. Trust me, ive been there, when I first got married, I worked at a daycare for 6.50 an hour. between me and my wife who was working, we made less then $25,000 that first year combined. Want to know the irony? I paid all the bills out of my paycheck. All of hers-went to the extras like camping and fun stuff. As time moved in, I improved my job skills, moved into retail, and then manufacturing, and then from there Got my CDL and started driving, starting out in construction and moving from there into the job field. And even know, im continuing to train and improve my skills, the more skills I have, the more appealing I am to employers. As it is, I turn down 3-4 jobs a year I dont even have to apply for. I dont say all this to brag, but to make a point. there are those who legitimatly cannot make it under one income. there are some areas where there is legitimatly no work. I understand that. But I think, the vast majority of homes that have both people working-could get by on one income, if they learned to live within their means and budget, and to continue to work to improve their life situation. Most people I know dont even comprehend that. They whine about having a lousy job, can't afford simple things like food, make no effort to improve their skills, jump jobs every 2 months, and then wonder why no one will hire them, and they come up with every excuse in the book. Especially if they have any sort of disability, whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, im not against those with disabilities-there are thsoe who legitimatly cannot work, but there are those who just use them as a crutch. at a car dealership I used to work at in high school, the best and highest paying mechanic at the dealership-only had one arm. And that is a very physical job that typically, requires 2 arms-yet this guy made do with a prosthetic, and not even the fancy ones we have today, it was nothing more then a piece of plastic with a hook on it, but yet was able to fix more cars better, and faster, then all 11 of our other mechanics combined. If someone sets goals, and a plan to get there, more often then not they can achieve them if theyre willing to work for them, and live within their means. Are they going to get them right away? no. one of me and my wifes goals when we got married, was to have a house. It took us nearly 4 years, 5 moves, and a lot of work to get there. and no, I still dont drive the nicest cars, and theres things I want but dont have, but thats called living within ones means.

  15. Shalom, wingnut- and George. Hello again George, I agree with your thoughts on the time Isaiah 24 is addressing, which if I am understanding you correctly we both see as taking place at the end of the millenial period. This brings us to the second major hurdle I have with the thousand years as being literal. That being, the condition of the planet at the time in question, particularly concerning the sun and the moon. So I want to start with what occurs just prior to Jesus returning and go from there. Revelation 6:12 I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14 The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; 16 and they *said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” Isaiah 24:21 So it will happen in that day, That the Lord will punish the host of heaven on high, And the kings of the earth on earth. 22 They will be gathered together Like prisoners in the dungeon, And will be confined in prison; And after many days they will be punished. 23 Then the moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed, For the Lord of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, And His glory will be before His elders. Comparing the two passages, the Revelation incident appears to be preceding what Isaiah describes here. The sun and the moon are darkened and the stars fall in Revelation, in Isaiah the sun and moon are dark, no mention of the stars because they have already fallen. Both passages reference the kings of the earth, Revelation shows them hiding and Isaiah discusses their punishment. Now, you mentioned that you see Isaiah 24 as the Day of the Lord, and we see in Revelation that the kings cry out that the great day of their wrath has come, do you see these as different days? I am unable to separate the two by what I read, because what Isaiah describes in this chapter sounds like wrath to me. And one of the key points in the chapter from Isaiah is the verse below, which definitely puts us at the end. Isaiah 24:20 The earth reels to and fro like a drunkard And it totters like a shack, For its transgression is heavy upon it, And it will fall, never to rise again. So what I am looking at here, or questioning, is how we can go a thousand years without the sun or moon. You had also touched on Zechariah 14, which also speaks of the same conditions concerning the sun and moon. Is there scripture that says anything about them coming back? I am familiar with this passage from Isaiah, which addresses the sun and moon on a very specific day. Also, Zechariah in chapter 14 states, in the evening their will be light. From what I read, Zechariah is talking about what Isaiah describes below. Isaiah 30:25 On every lofty mountain and on every high hill there will be streams running with water on the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 The light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, on the day the Lord binds up the fracture of His people and heals the bruise He has inflicted. When we consider the strength of the sun today, it already has the power to kill a person if they stay out in it too long without covering themselves from it. On this day of slaughter, it is magnified times seven, which to me offers a pretty scientific explanation as to how the Lord chooses to burn up the earth and everything on it. This sounds like a supernova type event to me, and also would explain some of the descriptions Zechariah offers in regards to the flesh rotting off of people. There is one other verse from Isaiah 24 that I think is important in regards to all of this as well, and it speaks to the sounding of the 6th and 7th trumpets, also discussed in Revelation 18 and the fall of Babylon. Isaiah 24: 16 From the ends of the earth we hear songs, “Glory to the Righteous One,” But I say, “Woe to me! Woe to me! Alas for me! The treacherous deal treacherously, And the treacherous deal very treacherously.” I look forward to your response, God bless you. The Day of the Lord begins at the beginning of the Millennium. It ends at the end of the Millennium! Thus, the Day will begin with the Messiah’s Coming and His rescue of Israel and the defeat of her foes. Regarding the sun and moon, there are different reasons for the sun and moon going dark. The first reason, which is disclosed in Jeremiah, is being obscured by THICK SMOKE! Another reason is a normal eclipse. The problem with this reason is that it cannot do both; it can’t obscure the sun and the moon at the same time. A normal eclipse is either a solar eclipse (the moon obscuring the sun from the earth’s view) or a lunar eclipse (the earth’s shadow from the sun’s light obscuring the moon from the earth’s view). Lunar eclipses ALWAYS occur during a new moon. Solar eclipses ALWAYS occur during a full moon! Another reason is a unique, abnormal eclipse. This potentially CAN obscure both the sun and the moon if they and the eclipsing agent (such as a close, passing asteroid or comet) are at just the right angles to our view of these bodies. However, some of these passages are NOT talking about the darkening of the sun and the moon! Isaiah 24:23 is one such passage. Yesha`yahu was NOT saying that the sun and moon would go dark; he was saying that they would be mixed up and outdone! The passage uses the commonly poetic technique of anthropomorphism. Instead of saying that the moon would be “mixed up,” the text said it would be “abashed." Instead of saying that the sun would be “outdone,” the text said it would be “ashamed.” But, if we peel away the anthropomorphism, this passage is saying that the moon would be confused in its phases; no longer would it be a simple “new moon,” “first quarter,” “full moon,” and “last quarter.” Now there would be OTHER phases involved, depending on the moon’s angle to Jerusalem from where the glory of God will shine! If you peel away the anthropomorphism about the sun being “ashamed,” the text is not saying that the sun will fade at all; it’s saying that while the sun goes on shining as usual, compared to the brightness of the Sun of Righteousness, the Son of God, it will simply be outdone. We see this also in Revelation 1:16 and Acts 22:6-8.

  17. Wingnut, To further comment on this scripture you have given please consider this one thing; When Jesus was caught up to God the truth was preserved amongst the apostles and the new testament scriptures were being written and sent to the churches. During this 3 1/2 year time, the truth was preserved in writing, and could not be touched by the enemy for the truth was protected. We cannot take this verse and put it at the end for it happened after the child was caught up to God. This verse clearly shows us that Satan the dragon was thrown out of heaven after the resurrection. He no longer has access to heaven and is very wroth. He went after the woman, who is "the doctrine" of God, and tried to destroy it, but the doctrine was protected for these 3 1/2 years and taught amongst the believers, and scriptures were being recorded. It is not speaking of Israel, but the Woman. The woman is God's doctrine. The woman's name is Zion and we follow her teachings.

  19. if you look around on the forum, you will see that this has been dealt with many times, and that opinions vary. The context also changes from verse to verse, the original languages have their own implications. I suggest looking around here, or going to bible resource sites, and looking into the topic. For myself, I am so far convinced, that others do not have positions that I feel comfortable adopting as any sort of absolute definition, so I do not feel the liberty to repeat them as if they were all that authoritative. I typically find, that splitting hairs about what the differences might be, if any, don't usually help me find an understanding that alters anyting the verse is probably trying to say. I know you have some resources Jen, for example, your ESV study bible, look in that commentary, and then ask, is there some reason to suspect, that people here can be that helpful in terms of being any more gifted at understanding than various professional interpreters already offered, in easy to access places? I don't want to discourage you from asking questions, but what do you think is changed, by trying various ideas about the spirit and the soul here? In other words, substitute the suspects, and then see what the verse teaches. Does that change anything? What is the takeaway of the verse?: For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. I think the part I put in bold, is what the verse is driving home, the stuff in between is an illustration, a restatement of the word's power, and what it does.

  20. It is truly amazing to me (and disconcerting) that NO ONE checked the Greek text of this passage! The Greek word translated as “Wormwood” was “Apsinthos.” There is a liquor that was named with this Greek word: absinthe. Here’s Wikipedia on the subject: Absinthe (i/ˈæbsɪnθ/ or /ˈæbsænθ/; French: [apsɛ̃t]) is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90–148 U.S. proof) beverage. It is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from botanicals, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium ("grand wormwood"), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. Absinthe traditionally has a natural green colour but may also be colourless. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the green fairy). Although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a liqueur, absinthe is not traditionally bottled with added sugar; it is therefore classified as a spirit. Absinthe is traditionally bottled at a high level of alcohol by volume, but it is normally diluted with water prior to being consumed. Absinthe originated in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland in the late 18th century. It rose to great popularity as an alcoholic drink in late 19th- and early 20th-century France, particularly among Parisian artists and writers. Owing in part to its association with bohemian culture, the consumption of absinthe was opposed by social conservatives and prohibitionists. Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Aleister Crowley, Erik Satie and Alfred Jarry were all known absinthe drinkers. Absinthe has often been portrayed as a dangerously addictive psychoactive drug and hallucinogen. The chemical compound thujone, although present in the spirit in only trace amounts, was blamed for its alleged harmful effects. By 1915, absinthe had been banned in the United States and in much of Europe, including France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria-Hungary. Although absinthe was vilified, it has not been demonstrated to be any more dangerous than ordinary spirits. Recent studies have shown that absinthe's psychoactive properties (apart from that of the alcohol) have been exaggerated. A revival of absinthe began in the 1990s, following the adoption of modern European Union food and beverage laws that removed longstanding barriers to its production and sale. By the early 21st century, nearly 200 brands of absinthe were being produced in a dozen countries, most notably in France, Switzerland, Australia, United States, Spain, and the Czech Republic. Here’s some of what Wikipedia has to say about its etymology: The French word absinthe can refer either to the alcoholic beverage or, less commonly, to the actual wormwood plant, with grande absinthe being Artemisia absinthium, and petite absinthe being Artemisia pontica. The Latin name artemisia comes from Artemis, the ancient Greek goddess of the hunt. Absinthe is derived from the Latin absinthium, which in turn comes from the ancient Greek ἀψίνθιον apsínthion, "wormwood". The use of Artemisia absinthium in a drink is attested in Lucretius' De Rerum Natura (I 936–950), where Lucretius indicates that a drink containing wormwood is given as medicine to children in a cup with honey on the brim to make it drinkable. Some claim that the word means "undrinkable" in Greek, but it may instead be linked to the Persian root spand or aspand, or the variant esfand, which meant Peganum harmala, also called Syrian Rue—although it is not actually a variety of rue, another famously bitter herb. That Artemisia absinthium was commonly burned as a protective offering may suggest that its origins lie in the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European root *spend, meaning "to perform a ritual" or "make an offering". Whether the word was a borrowing from Persian into Greek, or from a common ancestor of both, is unclear. Alternatively, the Greek word may originate in a pre-Greek Pelasgian word, marked by the non-Indo-European consonant complex νθ. Alternative spellings for absinthe include absinth, absynthe and absenta. Absinth (without the final e) is a spelling variant most commonly applied to absinthes produced in central and eastern Europe, and is specifically associated with Bohemian-style absinthes. Thus, I believe that this “star” (a sputtering meteor that contaminates the drinking water over which it flies) will drop the chemical make-up of this drink or the plant upon these waters, hence the name. Thanks that is interesting .

  21. Pat I am retired and I live a very simple life financially.I have to because I am on a fixed income.I do know that rents have doubled at least. This is because of supply and demand.I talked to someone who said they could not even find an apartment that was affordable. If a person wants a cell phone, and not everyone has to have one,you have a monthly bill.If a person wants a computer, and a person does not have to have one, they have a monthly bill.If a person wants an automobile you have insurance costs plus repair costs if something should go wrong not to speak of the regular maintenance costs or your car will not run like it should. Not everyone has a home that they own.I would love to have a home for myself and my son.I can only afford one car and that is costly.Yes,many people are living over what they really need to spend but others are barely making it with what they make.It is expensive to live with just the basic costs.Food sure is not cheap now either.Especially when you have a family. And that family are going to need clothes.I did not have to worry when my kids were younger because my husband was a very wealthy man but let me tell you it is not a walk in the park now and I am thinking my retirement income is maybe more than what most people make at a job.I need ever penny that comes in every month.

  24. Precisely. Since God's thoughts are not "our" thoughts (the thoughts of humanity in general) we need God's thoughts on everything. Furthermore, we need His wisdom, therefore we have the Wisdom books - Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes reveals the thoughts of the "natural man" ("under the sun"), whereas Proverbs are the thoughts of the Holy Spirit (under the Son). The media are saturated with the thoughts of the "natural man", overlaid with the deceptions of Satan. But we do need to be on guard against self-deception, which means knowing precisely what God has to say about any subject. For example you will hear many people say "Money is the root of all evil". But Scripture says "The LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil". Big difference.

  25. I think that while there are homes where they can't afford for the wife to stay home, that those legitimate cases arnt as high as one may think, a lot has to do with bad budgeting. Cost of living is high where I'm at, but I kept my family afloat with only making $35,000 a year for quite awhile, with my wife staying home with 2 kids. I also own my own home and have 3 vehicles. Its safe to say I make more then that now, but the point is most Americans don't know how to budget. Sure I don't have fancy cars, but neither do I have large car payments. I have a nice home, but I bounce it off a foreclosure, and put a lot of work into it. I suspect most families could live off of one income if they would learn to live inside of a budget.

  26. Shalom, bopeep1909.

  27. I know people who think that it is normal in the operation of a bicycle, to turn the handlebars to the right, when you want to take on a right curve. Most of the time, it is not true. However, wrong thinking does not always lead to wrong decisions, but it sure has that potential. While certainly not everything that comes across the TV, the internet, or on the pages of a book or even words of a trusted friend or pastor, etc., ar true, perhaps the least suspected area of deception, is when we come to conclusions ourselves. Nobody deceives us easier, that we deceive ourselves. This is why it is so dangerous to be lone ranger Christians, instead of cross checking our beliefs with the beliefs of others. You never know in what light, others have seen a passage of scripture, that we have not yet, or how God can use others, to help us see better.

  29. Yes bopeep, I do not think homeschooling is for everybody. Even in our case, it was not as though we were not stretched thin frequently. Foreclosure proceeding were begun on us a number of times. God always came through for us an met our needs. It takes a measure of faith and trust to be able to have things like that hanging over your head, and not suffer anxiety. Had we lost ourt house, we could have downsized, or rented, or lived in a mobile home, or even a trailer, or a mini-motorhome. I was married twice, and my first wife, came from a family, where her dad, was a university professor, yet their family lived in a small sailboat, that did not even have a dock. It was moored in a harbor channel, and they rowed to shore to go to work and school, every morning. She was not home schooled, but her family of for lived in a space equivalent to a large camping tent or less. It goes to show, that we can adjust our lifestyle way outside of what we think to consider. Yes, a bicycle or motorcycle, would be one way to save money, but in bad weather, not a great only vehicle. I had a motorcycle myself up until the day the triplets were born. I felt that the danger to my life and limb was not acceptable, so I stopped riding so that my kids were more likely to have a father, and my wife a husband to help her raise a family. There are a lot of things we need to weigh, to decide what is acceptable or not acceptable, in our individual situations, but the bottom line is that we sometimes have more options, than we realize. I do not think that there is a need to homeschool, a family can still be spiritual and Godly, and yet not home school. Those decisions are up to each family, and is between them and God. In our case, we believed that the primary responsibility to educate children, belongs to the parents, not to the state. For some, it might be that they choose to take that responsibility and use it to decide to delegate that job, to the state. I think it is great if one can afford it.I am very much an advocate of homeschooling the way our schools are today.

  31. I find, for me, attraction works better than promotion. It is easier for me to just be me. Whenever I am aware that I am in Christ, my heart overflows with love and gratitude. Who I am is just that. Others, including myself, are naturally attracted, and feel safe, to those that are at peace and loving. So, just be yourself in the Lord, out of love for the Lord, and the rest will take care of itself.

  35. Hello everyone. I had a wonderful time in church yesterday, and decided to share my note here... i hope you enjoy it and learn from it. Note: I will just outline points. Text: Prov. 22:6, Isa. 54:13 - Nothing is automatic or accidental when it comes training a child. We make things happen and things do happen for a reason. III John 4. - The greatness of a child determines the achievements of the parents. You can't call a parent successful if their children are not doing well. Your success always reflects in your fruit. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PARENT 1 Lay a good foundation : Children are express image of our character (as parents). To train up my child in the right way, i must work on my character. and this means anything you don't want in the life of your children should not be in your life. 2. Teach them to be unique, that imitators are always limited 3. What you do speak louder than what you say. Lead by example, for example... you shouldn't ask them to always study their bible, or read their academic books when they see you never study. Every once in a while, leave whatever you are doing and join them in study... including their academic books. 4. Foolishness is part of the nature of a child. Prov. 66:6 5. Teach them how to deal with the Adamic nature. Teach them to overcome the Adamic nature, and this means you must have dealt with this nature in yourself too. 6. There should be no other human who can teach your children better than you. 7. Teach them to meditate and stand on the word of God 8. Teach them to know God, to know the nature of God. And let them understand that they are God's (belong to God) and are created in His image. That regardless of whatever anyone says about them, they should always learn to locate what God says about them in the scripture. 9. Teach them to be independent... to make money. 10. Teach them about perseverance, hope, faith, and patience 11. Teach them to be responsible and respectful 12. Teach them to cherish integrity and righteousness 13. Teach them to be skillful and smart so, that's the basic summary... i hope it is helpful to someone. Comments are welcome. Thank you.

  36. I do not "know" that very few have that luxury, or that few can afford it. The average houshold income in the U.S. is about $50,000 per year, and even higher for a family of four. So, without thinking hard about that number, I just use that as a starting point to realizine that average people, have a lot more money that they think sometimes. In most families where both parents work, it is typical for the man to make more than the woman, but for the sake of a simple consideration, lets say then, that if the woman stayed home, that leaves $25,000. I think that with a little careful planning, and some self control, home schooling on the income of one person, is quite doable. For some, it is a matter of changing mentality of a new car every 5 years, to never buying a new car, cutting the grocery bill, by eating off-brand foods and cutting junk food down, turning of the cable service and other measures. Recognizing the difference between need and wishes, can reduce a lot of costs out of one's budget. How much do people spend on having the latest I phone, a flat screen, large TV, (or any tv for that matter? What about buying clothes and other items, used, instead of new? If one values those sorts of things, over the ability to home school, then sure, that is a personal choice and I understand that many people will not make that choice, and decide that lifestyle wins out. I get that, and that is their choice to make. However, I also think that that average income number above is enough to live modestly, but comfortable, on half of it, remember, half of people have more than average, so there are a lot of people, who can afford it, they just choose not to. I won't deny that we were blessed to be able to do what we did, but we never made made what an average U.S. family made, in any year, and we lived in Southern California, an expensive part of the country. We also raised 5 kids, so I am pretty sure it can be done. Then again, the most expensive car we ever bought, was $4000. Still have that car, and why not, it is only 18 years old! I see your point. Many could downsize their way of living and get rid of a lot of stuff. But from what I have heard many families could not pay their mortgage or eat properly or both have automobiles if they gave up the wife's income and that is a family who does not have a lot of anything. Not every family makes a sizeable income every year.I guess they could both give up their automobiles and ride transit(some people do not have access to public transit because of where they live).Or the guy could ride a motorcycle or a bicycle.

  37. I have been trying to think of a way to do this. Nearly the only people I interact with these days is waitresses where we eat lunch. Perhaps I could leave a note with a tip asking them to invite Jesus into their lives to heal where they are hurting and repair the areas they are having trouble with. He came to give them a full, meaningful life and to forgive their mistakes because He cares about them. I want to avoid christianese and make it short and simple. Perhaps it would lead to more questions in the future. But I rarely have an opening or opportunity to share the Lord. When cults come to our door I can testify to what Jesus has done in my life. They can only tell what their church has done for them, not what God has done to change them. The only others I talk to are telephone soliciters, which might be another opportunity if they are live people. Thanks

  38. It would be pure speculation to try and determine what Wormwood will or will not be, other than what is written viz. it is a burning star which makes water bitter and poisons it so that human beings die. Since one-third of all the earth's water supply will be affected, it will be an extremely serious catastrophe. More importantly, those who are not saved should hear about Wormwood and all the other catastrophic judgments which will come upon the earth. Today is the day of salvation, but it is also included in "the beginning of sorrows". What sinners need to hear is that Christ tasted the "wormwood and the gall" on their behalf on the Cross (Lamentations 3:19). No man will ever know the magnitude of His suffereings in order to provide redemption to all who will believe.

  39. Greetings Wingnut From reading the scriptures throughout I see it like this with my understanding; The survivors who will witness Christ's Coming with all his power and glory will also witness that Christ has taken over all the kingdoms of the world. The wicked leaders of the world have been removed and their power and leadership taken off them. Christ will replace the earth with his laws, and the law will come forth out of Jerusalem. Every knee shall bow to Christ, and it will be spectacular. So all those who will see the coming will be witnesses, but their next generations will not be. Children will be born and the eye witness accounts will be passed down through word of mouth and teaching. The new generations to be born have not known Babylon. They have not experienced it. We have, but they wont. It's all a story to them passed down. They have it easy. So even though Satan is locked up, evil has not yet been completely destroyed in the hearts of men. As the generations go on and on, the eye witness accounts are dating and there are some men who still have evil in their hearts despite hearing the truth. These must be sifted out and they cannot act in rebellion or war just yet because Christ guarantees a thousand years of rest from wars and violence etc. Christ is in charge now don't forget and keeps his Word. Once the thousand years is complete, Christ will now do the final sifting between the good and the wicked, so he lets Satan loose. Those who have evil in their hearts will be attracted to Satan's plan to stir up the righteous and cause war. War will be a new experience for them and they will find it exciting to rebel and express openly. Satan is used as a magnet to draw the wicked to himself and he gives them courage to perform the will and intent of their hearts. This is all God's plan wingnut, as the wicked have to be finally sifted out for the sake of the good. And the world will witness war for the first time, after the thousand years. They will see with their own eyes and understand why the destroyer was put away for a time, and they will learn by this and comprehend fully. All of Israel living in the kingdom will be fully restored and they will produce many many children who will be born to them and taught to love to Christ and his holy ways... .... so many children to come into the kingdom of God, not only their own, but of the gentiles also whom they are commissioned to teach. ...Millions and millions will be converted to Christ and will take part in the second resurrection. The millennium was not a failure or a waste of time, but God's wonderful plan, perfectly orchestrated to produce more children for himself to raise in the 2nd resurrection in preparation to dwell in the new heavens and new earth. The 3 1/2 years is punishment on Israel and the world. It is not their restoration time, but a time of war and oppression from a horrible dictator who hates them because they are connected to God from old times. But God has revealed that he will punish first then give mercy, because they are his children and children need discipline and correction when they don't listen..not just them but us too. Jeremiah 25:29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts. Any Israelite who comes to Christ before this 3 1/2 year tribulation will be in the resurrection of the saints, and not "of Israel", but one in Christ with all the other saints.

  40. No matter what you do or what you look like. There will always be some who will not accept you. If we spent our lives trying to "fit in" with all people we end up driving ourselves completely insane as it can not be done. There are those who will not accept someone with long hair and tattoos. And there are those who will not accept a short hair, suit and tie. God's calling on each of us is different. Because we are all different.

  42. This corresponds with Matt. 24:29-31 (rapture). 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. The rapture, when the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. Then the blindness of the tribes of Israel will be removed, and they will look up and know that their redemption draws near. Cheers Hi rollinTHUNDER, So good to see your smiling face. Thank you for popping in & contributing. I hear your view on when the rapture occurs, but I wont get into that as there are many other threads on that topic. (Not that I thought you wanted to discuss that.) However I do see Matt. 24: 29 – 31 as the same events as Rev. 1: 7. That is something we can agree on. Hi Marilyn, You won't get into when the rapture occurs, because you have been led to believe it happens sometime before Daniel's 70th week begins, is that correct? I used to believe that too, but you should know that Christ laid it all out, without concealing anything. He did not call it the rapture, though. He called it the appearing of the sign of the Son of man, when He will come in the clouds, and then send His angels to gather His elect, which is where much confusion begins for many believers. Many are told that this is His physical second coming to the earth, even though scripture does not indicate He ever touches down after gathering the elect in the clouds. Most people simply assume this is referring to His second coming, and they ignore the rest of His answer in Matthew chapter 25, which is where He mentions the second coming. It seems that many don't want to get into this, because they want to keep holding on to their false hope of a pre-trib rapture, which is not found anywhere in God's Word. And it's not like Jesus failed to mention it, because He laid it all out, which includes both, the rapture as we call it today and His second coming. Verse 31 is key in both chapters. Matt. 24:31 = Rapture Matt. 25:31 = Second coming These are both judgments. His judgment begins with the righteous (1 Pet. 4:17-18), and ends with the nations or sheep and goats (Matt. 25:31-46). The following passage includes both of these judgments. Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. (them which destroy the earth = goats) Many that believe in a so-called pre-trib rapture, also believe He will come in secret, even though there's no scripture that supports that either. False hope is much like wishful thinking, but many don't seem to realize that they are only setting themselves up for a rude awakening. Either we want to know the truth or we don't. It's not going to happen according to our beliefs, but according to the fulfilling of His Word, whether we believe it or not, and whether we are ready or not. Every eye will see Him, so it won't be done in secret. Every believer who is ready when He appears will meet Him in the clouds, and those left on the earth will see the greatest event in the history of the world. It will be no secret. Israel's blindness will be ended at that time, as the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled (Rom. 11:25). Every eye will see this event, as He said His coming would be like lightning coming from east to and shining even to the west (Matt. 24:27). So every eye will see, even the Jews or them who pierced Him. Then the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. This includes the Jews in the Promised Land, and the tribes of Israel which are still scattered in the nations of the world. Notice He did not say every kindred, tongue and nation, but only the tribes of the earth, which are the Jews who pierced Him that will mourn. Their eyes will be wide open at that time, and their blindness will be no more. They will look up and know their redemption is near, right at the door, and they will repent. Zechariah 10:6-12 “I will strengthen the house of Judah, And I will save the house of Joseph. I will bring them back, Because I have mercy on them. They shall be as though I had not cast them aside; For I am the Lord their God, And I will hear them. 7 Those of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, And their heart shall rejoice as if with wine. Yes, their children shall see it and be glad; Their heart shall rejoice in the Lord. 8 I will whistle for them and gather them, For I will redeem them; And they shall increase as they once increased. 9 “I will sow them among the peoples, And they shall remember Me in far countries; They shall live, together with their children, And they shall return. 10 I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt, And gather them from Assyria. I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon, Until no more room is found for them. 11 He shall pass through the sea with affliction, And strike the waves of the sea: All the depths of the River shall dry up. Then the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, And the scepter of Egypt shall depart. 12 “So I will strengthen them in the Lord, And they shall walk up and down in His name,” Says the Lord. Zechariah 12:10-11 And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. 11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. The rapture can not occur before Daniel's 70th week, because that event will be the end of Israel's blindness. And if their blindness is removed before Daniel's 70th week, then they will not receive the one who is prophesied to come in his own name. Therefore, this is another reason the rapture occurs after the tribulation of those days (Matt. 24:29). Unfortunately, many have placed their faith in this false hope and they will not be prepared to endure until the end. If people are going to put all of their eggs into the pre-trib basket, I would hope that they are hoping for the best, but at least preparing for the worst. If not, I see a very rude awakening coming for them. The very first thing Christ told His disciple's who questioned Him about the sign of His coming was to not let anyone deceive them. But many have been taught that they will be out of harms way before anything bad happens. I hope many will start waking up, because we are about to enter perilous times and it will test our faith. Christ said that the love of many will grow cold, and Paul said there will come a falling away and the abomination of desolation before our gathering (2 Thes. 2:1-4). Christ also warned that He will vomit the lukewarm out of His mouth as well, so only His faithful servants will be ready, and again, this is not a pre-trib gathering. There will be no such thing. Cheers

I used to be among the worst and would cut anyone off at the knees who didn't agree with me. Such is not the way of our Messiah and I personally have learned a long, hard lesson in humility while here. I know that others have as well. We have a common enemy, the enemy of our souls, and need to stand together against him.
