  2. Since you want to take passages out of their full context, how about this one? Matt. 24:37 As the days of Noah were, so also will be the coming of the Son of Man. Now, was Noah warned beforehand? Yes he was, first long enough (many years) to build the ark, then seven days in advance of the event. So obviously this "proves," using your logic, that we will be warned at least 7 days in advance. Besides Luke 21:36, which I quoted above, Paul tells us both in 1 Thes. 5:1-6, and also 2 Thes. 2:1-3, that the Church will see precursor events before "the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." Daniel 11:45-12:3 likewise provides precursor events. Will the Lord provide us the exact day? Perhaps not. But your statement that "the rapture could take place at any time" is false, because some of the precursor events have not yet taken place. But they appear to be close.

  3. Pride gets in the way of any meaningful relationship with God. It rejects His authority, takes credit for what He alone has done, and causes us to despise other people. Humility is the exact opposite. It is a recognition that we are always, everywhere, totally dependent on the grace of God, which cannot be received by the arrogant (Matthew 5:3). When Peter says, “humble yourselves” (I Peter 1:6), he means literally that we should ‘allow ourselves to be humbled’ by God, by submitting patiently to the trials that He allows us to experience. Since we cannot fight against God, it makes sense to surrender to Him now! (Luke 14:11)

  4. What takes place during the first 5 Seals of Rev. 6 is the same sequence of events that take place in Matt. 24, up to the return of Christ "immediately after the Tribulation," 24:29. Then come the great heavenly and earthly signs and cataclysms of the 6th Seal: Matt. 24:29-30 = Rev. 6:12-14. Then comes Jesus in the clouds to take up his elect, at which time 'every eye will see him, and all the peoples of the earth will mourn.' Matt. 24:30-31 = Rev. 1:7 = Rev. 6:15-17. At this point the Great Tribulation has already been fulfilled, and "the great day of [God's] wrath has come," Rev. 6:17. Everything after that point is the period of Wrath, not Tribulation. The Church is now gone, because "God did not appoint us to wrath," 1 Thes. 5:9. The great deception of those who teach what you and others like you teach is that the Tribulation and the Wrath are the same thing, but Scripture makes a clear distinction between the two. What the Scriptures teach is that our Lord's Coming will be Pre-Wrath, Post-Trib. Which is the topic of this string. If you cannot understand and support this teaching, go to one of the following strings wherein you find agreement.

You have little to no faith. Prayer is the only action really required. Anything not of faith is sin. It's all or nothing with God it's either you put all your trust in God or none of it!

Your carnal logic causes you to err. I will stay with direct communion in prayer unto Christ alone.

You have asked our Lord to help you in this area of your life , listen to him , he may ask you to do things , change things , speak to a professional . Prayer is like all conversations its a two way thing , he will answer you , maybe through the Bible , maybe through a friend or an article or " a still , small voice " . IF it's God s will , you will get the help you asked for . I'll be praying for you and your wife ( she might be a good place to start ) God bless you dear .

THE CROSS THE NARROW GATE 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: CHRIST THE NARROW WAY 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR CORRUPT FRUITS 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? TRUE CHRISTIANS AND THEIR SPIRITUAL FRUITS 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. FALSE PROFESSORS BOUND FOR HELL 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ALL TO BE TESTED BY THEIR FRUITS 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. FALSE PROFESSORS CAN CALL CHRIST “LORD” 21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. SUPERNATURAL GIFTS NOT THE TRUE TEST 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST NECESSARY 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

  19. I was just looking up Cuban history to understand what brought Castro too power. Apparently Batista was very corrupt and did not tolerate any opposition as he murdered a lot of people. Luther, from what I have read, came to disagree with the collection of indulgences by the Catholic church. After studying scripture, he came to the conclusion that salvation was by faith thru grace alone. I am posting a list of the 95 points that Luther wrote, hoping for a discussion and change within the Catholic church. Luther's objection to theological issues was bold, and much needed. However, Luther, as a human was far from perfect, as he seemed to have an anger issue with anyone who didn't go his way, and that resulted in his anti-semitic booklet. For Luther, I am simply attempting to give an accurate portrayal. He wrote a anti-semitic booklet which has been used as a reason to commit atrocities against the Jewish people. That is very bad, but Luther also did good things. As far as theology, Luther made a correction, but those who followed Luther's protest, also did wicked things, despite being Christians. The continued church/state system, caused persecution against any who disagreed with the state religion, like Catholicism did. It is the reason the U.S. constitution forbids the establishment of a state religion. http://www.luther.de/en/95thesen.html When our Lord and Master Jesus Christ said, ``Repent'' (Mt 4:17), he willed the entire life of believers to be one of repentance. This word cannot be understood as referring to the sacrament of penance, that is, confession and satisfaction, as administered by the clergy. Yet it does not mean solely inner repentance; such inner repentance is worthless unless it produces various outward mortification of the flesh. The penalty of sin remains as long as the hatred of self (that is, true inner repentance), namely till our entrance into the kingdom of heaven. The pope neither desires nor is able to remit any penalties except those imposed by his own authority or that of the canons. The pope cannot remit any guilt, except by declaring and showing that it has been remitted by God; or, to be sure, by remitting guilt in cases reserved to his judgment. If his right to grant remission in these cases were disregarded, the guilt would certainly remain unforgiven. God remits guilt to no one unless at the same time he humbles him in all things and makes him submissive to the vicar, the priest. The penitential canons are imposed only on the living, and, according to the canons themselves, nothing should be imposed on the dying. Therefore the Holy Spirit through the pope is kind to us insofar as the pope in his decrees always makes exception of the article of death and of necessity. Those priests act ignorantly and wickedly who, in the case of the dying, reserve canonical penalties for purgatory. Those tares of changing the canonical penalty to the penalty of purgatory were evidently sown while the bishops slept (Mt 13:25). In former times canonical penalties were imposed, not after, but before absolution, as tests of true contrition. The dying are freed by death from all penalties, are already dead as far as the canon laws are concerned, and have a right to be released from them. Imperfect piety or love on the part of the dying person necessarily brings with it great fear; and the smaller the love, the greater the fear. This fear or horror is sufficient in itself, to say nothing of other things, to constitute the penalty of purgatory, since it is very near to the horror of despair. Hell, purgatory, and heaven seem to differ the same as despair, fear, and assurance of salvation. It seems as though for the souls in purgatory fear should necessarily decrease and love increase. Furthermore, it does not seem proved, either by reason or by Scripture, that souls in purgatory are outside the state of merit, that is, unable to grow in love. Nor does it seem proved that souls in purgatory, at least not all of them, are certain and assured of their own salvation, even if we ourselves may be entirely certain of it. Therefore the pope, when he uses the words ``plenary remission of all penalties,'' does not actually mean ``all penalties,'' but only those imposed by himself. Thus those indulgence preachers are in error who say that a man is absolved from every penalty and saved by papal indulgences. As a matter of fact, the pope remits to souls in purgatory no penalty which, according to canon law, they should have paid in this life. If remission of all penalties whatsoever could be granted to anyone at all, certainly it would be granted only to the most perfect, that is, to very few. For this reason most people are necessarily deceived by that indiscriminate and high-sounding promise of release from penalty. That power which the pope has in general over purgatory corresponds to the power which any bishop or curate has in a particular way in his own diocese and parish. The pope does very well when he grants remission to souls in purgatory, not by the power of the keys, which he does not have, but by way of intercession for them. They preach only human doctrines who say that as soon as the money clinks into the money chest, the soul flies out of purgatory. It is certain that when money clinks in the money chest, greed and avarice can be increased; but when the church intercedes, the result is in the hands of God alone. Who knows whether all souls in purgatory wish to be redeemed, since we have exceptions in St. Severinus and St. Paschal, as related in a legend. No one is sure of the integrity of his own contrition, much less of having received plenary remission. The man who actually buys indulgences is as rare as he who is really penitent; indeed, he is exceedingly rare. Those who believe that they can be certain of their salvation because they have indulgence letters will be eternally damned, together with their teachers. Men must especially be on guard against those who say that the pope's pardons are that inestimable gift of God by which man is reconciled to him. For the graces of indulgences are concerned only with the penalties of sacramental satisfaction established by man. They who teach that contrition is not necessary on the part of those who intend to buy souls out of purgatory or to buy confessional privileges preach unchristian doctrine. Any truly repentant Christian has a right to full remission of penalty and guilt, even without indulgence letters. Any true Christian, whether living or dead, participates in all the blessings of Christ and the church; and this is granted him by God, even without indulgence letters. Nevertheless, papal remission and blessing are by no means to be disregarded, for they are, as I have said (Thesis 6), the proclamation of the divine remission. It is very difficult, even for the most learned theologians, at one and the same time to commend to the people the bounty of indulgences and the need of true contrition. A Christian who is truly contrite seeks and loves to pay penalties for his sins; the bounty of indulgences, however, relaxes penalties and causes men to hate them -- at least it furnishes occasion for hating them. Papal indulgences must be preached with caution, lest people erroneously think that they are preferable to other good works of love. Christians are to be taught that the pope does not intend that the buying of indulgences should in any way be compared with works of mercy. Christians are to be taught that he who gives to the poor or lends to the needy does a better deed than he who buys indulgences. Because love grows by works of love, man thereby becomes better. Man does not, however, become better by means of indulgences but is merely freed from penalties. Christians are to be taught that he who sees a needy man and passes him by, yet gives his money for indulgences, does not buy papal indulgences but God's wrath. Christians are to be taught that, unless they have more than they need, they must reserve enough for their family needs and by no means squander it on indulgences. Christians are to be taught that they buying of indulgences is a matter of free choice, not commanded. Christians are to be taught that the pope, in granting indulgences, needs and thus desires their devout prayer more than their money. Christians are to be taught that papal indulgences are useful only if they do not put their trust in them, but very harmful if they lose their fear of God because of them. Christians are to be taught that if the pope knew the exactions of the indulgence preachers, he would rather that the basilica of St. Peter were burned to ashes than built up with the skin, flesh, and bones of his sheep. Christians are to be taught that the pope would and should wish to give of his own money, even though he had to sell the basilica of St. Peter, to many of those from whom certain hawkers of indulgences cajole money. It is vain to trust in salvation by indulgence letters, even though the indulgence commissary, or even the pope, were to offer his soul as security. They are the enemies of Christ and the pope who forbid altogether the preaching of the Word of God in some churches in order that indulgences may be preached in others. Injury is done to the Word of God when, in the same sermon, an equal or larger amount of time is devoted to indulgences than to the Word. It is certainly the pope's sentiment that if indulgences, which are a very insignificant thing, are celebrated with one bell, one procession, and one ceremony, then the gospel, which is the very greatest thing, should be preached with a hundred bells, a hundred processions, a hundred ceremonies. The true treasures of the church, out of which the pope distributes indulgences, are not sufficiently discussed or known among the people of Christ. That indulgences are not temporal treasures is certainly clear, for many indulgence sellers do not distribute them freely but only gather them. Nor are they the merits of Christ and the saints, for, even without the pope, the latter always work grace for the inner man, and the cross, death, and hell for the outer man. St. Lawrence said that the poor of the church were the treasures of the church, but he spoke according to the usage of the word in his own time. Without want of consideration we say that the keys of the church, given by the merits of Christ, are that treasure. For it is clear that the pope's power is of itself sufficient for the remission of penalties and cases reserved by himself. The true treasure of the church is the most holy gospel of the glory and grace of God. But this treasure is naturally most odious, for it makes the first to be last (Mt. 20:16). On the other hand, the treasure of indulgences is naturally most acceptable, for it makes the last to be first. Therefore the treasures of the gospel are nets with which one formerly fished for men of wealth. The treasures of indulgences are nets with which one now fishes for the wealth of men. The indulgences which the demagogues acclaim as the greatest graces are actually understood to be such only insofar as they promote gain. They are nevertheless in truth the most insignificant graces when compared with the grace of God and the piety of the cross. Bishops and curates are bound to admit the commissaries of papal indulgences with all reverence. But they are much more bound to strain their eyes and ears lest these men preach their own dreams instead of what the pope has commissioned. Let him who speaks against the truth concerning papal indulgences be anathema and accursed. But let him who guards against the lust and license of the indulgence preachers be blessed. Just as the pope justly thunders against those who by any means whatever contrive harm to the sale of indulgences. Much more does he intend to thunder against those who use indulgences as a pretext to contrive harm to holy love and truth. To consider papal indulgences so great that they could absolve a man even if he had done the impossible and had violated the mother of God is madness. We say on the contrary that papal indulgences cannot remove the very least of venial sins as far as guilt is concerned. To say that even St. Peter if he were now pope, could not grant greater graces is blasphemy against St. Peter and the pope. We say on the contrary that even the present pope, or any pope whatsoever, has greater graces at his disposal, that is, the gospel, spiritual powers, gifts of healing, etc., as it is written. (1 Co 12[:28]) To say that the cross emblazoned with the papal coat of arms, and set up by the indulgence preachers is equal in worth to the cross of Christ is blasphemy. The bishops, curates, and theologians who permit such talk to be spread among the people will have to answer for this. This unbridled preaching of indulgences makes it difficult even for learned men to rescue the reverence which is due the pope from slander or from the shrewd questions of the laity. Such as: ``Why does not the pope empty purgatory for the sake of holy love and the dire need of the souls that are there if he redeems an infinite number of souls for the sake of miserable money with which to build a church?'' The former reason would be most just; the latter is most trivial. Again, ``Why are funeral and anniversary masses for the dead continued and why does he not return or permit the withdrawal of the endowments founded for them, since it is wrong to pray for the redeemed?'' Again, ``What is this new piety of God and the pope that for a consideration of money they permit a man who is impious and their enemy to buy out of purgatory the pious soul of a friend of God and do not rather, beca use of the need of that pious and beloved soul, free it for pure love's sake?'' Again, ``Why are the penitential canons, long since abrogated and dead in actual fact and through disuse, now satisfied by the granting of indulgences as though they were still alive and in force?'' Again, ``Why does not the pope, whose wealth is today greater than the wealth of the richest Crassus, build this one basilica of St. Peter with his own money rather than with the money of poor believers?'' Again, ``What does the pope remit or grant to those who by perfect contrition already have a right to full remission and blessings?'' Again, ``What greater blessing could come to the church than if the pope were to bestow these remissions and blessings on every believer a hundred times a day, as he now does but once?'' ``Since the pope seeks the salvation of souls rather than money by his indulgences, why does he suspend the indulgences and pardons previously granted when they have equal efficacy?'' To repress these very sharp arguments of the laity by force alone, and not to resolve them by giving reasons, is to expose the church and the pope to the ridicule of their enemies and to make Christians unhappy. If, therefore, indulgences were preached according to the spirit and intention of the pope, all these doubts would be readily resolved. Indeed, they would not exist. Away, then, with all those prophets who say to the people of Christ, ``Peace, peace,'' and there is no peace! (Jer 6:14) Blessed be all those prophets who say to the people of Christ, ``Cross, cross,'' and there is no cross! Christians should be exhorted to be diligent in following Christ, their Head, through penalties, death and hell. And thus be confident of entering into heaven through many tribulations rather than through the false security of peace (Acts 14:22).

  20. Well, this was an opportunity to read some about Cuban history. Before Castro, Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar ruled Cuba as a dictator. The Batista regime was known for it's ruthlessness. Batista had close ties with American mobsters and under Batista's rule, Havana had gambling, brothels, and tremendous corruption. Batista murdered thousands who he felt threatened his regime. For most Cubans, Batista's regime was a very difficult time, with many Cubans living in poverty. When Castro over threw the Batista regime, there were about 6 million Cubans with about 10,000 to 16,000 Jewish people. Castro was very popular among Cubans, as well as the Jewish people living in Cuba. The people were looking for relief from the corrupt Batista regime and Castro offered hope to relieve the oppression Cubans lived under. By the way, the U.S. was a strong supporter of Batista, with the U.S. ambassador to Cuba having a lot of power just under Batista.

  21. You might have had Jewish ancestors, but that does not mean you are Jewish. You are not Jewish. As to why people buy into anti-semitic teachings is a mystery to me. Anti-semitic teachings are lies that people believe for some reason. I believe that people have been taught that Jews are bad people and are willing to believe any lie about them. Jewish people in Europe were never a part of the ruling class. They may have worked for the ruling class but were not members of the ruling class. You accused Jewish people of charging usury, which they did not, but were ordered by the rulers to lend money and charge interest. Jewish people in the majority of European countries could not own land and therefore could not be landlords. The reasoning as to why Luther wrote his anti-semitic pamphlet that I gave is the reasoning given by some Lutheran groups. Kabbalist Jews were not members of the ruling class, so again, you are wrong. Yes, I am a Jew. I am not paranoid, but being Jewish, I recognize false anti-semitic lies against the Jewish people. I have heard most of them, and being Jewish, I know a lot of Jews, personally. I know the anti-semitic lies which circulate. The Jews being the ruling class, part of secret societies, rich, stealing from Gentiles, are classic anti-semitic lies.

He is saying that capital punishments for such a class of oppressors is due, as much as it is for other criminals. There is a word in this paragraph which gives away whom he is talking about. 26. Sorry, I cannot quote your most recent post, so I try to reuse this one. You asked for context. Chapter 14, towards the end. Reader discretion is advised. There is no other explanation for this than the one cited earlier from Moses, namely, that God has struck them with "madness and blindness and confusion of mind." So we are even at fault in not avenging all this innocent blood of our Lord and of the Christians which they shed for three hundred years after the destruction of Jerusalem, and the blood of the children they have shed since then (which still shines forth from their eyes and their skin). We are at fault in not slaying them. Rather we allow them to live freely in our midst despite an their murdering, cursing, blaspheming, lying, and defaming; we protect and shield their synagogues, houses, life, and property In this way we make them lazy and secure and encourage them to fleece us boldly of our money and goods, as well as to mock and deride us, with a view to finally overcoming us, killing us all for such a great sin, and robbing us of all our property (as they dailypray and hope). Now tell me whether they do not have every reason to be the enemies of us accursed Goyim, to curse us and to strive for our final, complete, and eternal ruin! I wonder how it is possible to defend any of this.

That idea has been put across by people who commented on his writings, but there is no contradiction between longing for the salvation of the Jews who do not accept the Messiah, and warning the authorities of the impact of their religion on the freedoms of a country. 35. The way I read it, Luther was friendly to the Jews until they refused to join his fight against the Vatican. He then did a complete 180 and urged persecution of them. He was not writing about some Jews, but ALL Jews. He was an evil, despicable man.
    1 point
  36. Apparently these are the only references to the Jews in his book that are a denunciation of them. In the context he is writing of them as a religion and not individuals, and what he says about the religion is true, they are conceited and controlled by Satan because of their unbelief in Christ. To say that these religiously strong Jews are basically OK and that they at that time should have tolerated them, is the same as saying that good living Islamic people should be welcomed into all our countries. The religion, like that of the unbelieving Jews, is fundamentally detached from Christian principles of living, so it can only head in one direction - to ruin society. The issue here is not about community acceptance, but you will note that the remarks were aimed and addressed to the authorities of the country warning them of the influence that such a religion can have on the country and its freedoms. Make no mistake here. Remember the true Jews had been persecuted throughout the dark ages and were almost wiped out. The glut of Jews who were thriving in the dark ages were the most wicked generation that had ever existed of the Jews, they were even favored by the Papacy, what does that tell you? Our modern banking systems and the world bank were founded by these Jews and their specific families. Large world corporations which control nearly all major world industries are of the same roots. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. The world's evil can be traced down to these founders and their families. Luther was right on the mark. His comments are not directed at a discussion about Christian acceptance of all nationalities, but the political influence of a false religion on a free society, which by the way took the suffering and blood of so many martyrs to win. People who balk at these comments have absolutely no idea how difficult it was for the world to come out of the terrible oppression of the great Antichrist, and how Satan had reign over the earth through it. And the same ignorant people are responsible for allowing the same oppression to rise again in the names of - acceptance and one world.

  37. After quoting some of the horrid things Luther wrote, in order to be fair to Luther, I have Lutheran friends who have told me that Luther earlier complimented the Jewish people for their opposition to Catholicism. Also that Luther believed that if he shared with the Jewish people about Jesus, they would accept Jesus, but was very upset that the Jewish people did not convert as he thought they would. This angered Luther and resulted in his writing against the Jewish people. I do not know if Luthers paper against the Jews was a reaction because Luther failed to convert the Jewish people. Either way, if a Christian shares the gospel with people, and they do not accept Jesus, turning to such hateful speach or writing is definitely not the correct response. In missionary circles, it is well known that the Jewish people are resistant to the gospel at this time, and scripture tells us that the Jewish people are blinded in part until the fulness of the Gentiles come in. But, that blindness is only in part which means many Jewish people are not blinded. Today, Jewish people are coming to the Lord. I have also heard from Lutherans that later in life, after Luther's booklet against the Jewish people, he wrote a line in his last sermon. Quote from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 'We join Luther who in his last sermon said of the proper Christian attitude toward the Jewish people, " We want to treat them in Christian love and pray for them..." The LCMS supports sharing the gospel with the Jewish people in love, and opposes and renounces Luthers booklet against the Jewish people. The same with other Lutheran groups.

  38. The paper Luther wrote did not apply to 'certain Jews', but rather Luther made a global statement about all Jews and how Luther felt they should be treated and viewed. He calls all Jews liars and scoundrels. He recommends that Christians should burn Jewish synagogues and kick Jewish people out of their countries. He accuses Jews of desiring to have God kill all Gentiles. WARNING, the following quotes are disgusting and grossly anti-semitic. Some quotes from the booklet written by Luther entitled 'The Jews and their lies'. Therefore be on your guard against the Jews, knowing that wherever they have their synagogues, nothing is found but a den of devils in which sheer selfglory, conceit, lies, blasphemy, and defaming of God and men are practiced most maliciously and veheming his eyes on them. Moreover, they are nothing but thieves and robbers who daily eat no morsel and wear no thread of clothing which they have not stolen and pilfered from us by means of their accursed usury. Thus they live from day to day, together with wife and child, by theft and robbery, as archthieves and robbers, in the most impenitent security. I brief, dear princes and lords, those of you who have Jews under your rule if my counsel does not please your, find better advice, so that you and we all can be rid of the unbearable, devilish burden of the Jews, lest we become guilty sharers before God in the lies, blasphemy, the defamation, and the curses which the mad Jews indulge in so freely

  41. Gdemoss well said, its more about the relationship the Christian has (or lack thereof). He wants a personal relationship with each of us. Honestly, this scripture gives me the heebeegeebees bc it challenges ME to exam my relationship with the Lord. Periodically i think about am I truly putting God first and loving Him with all my heart mind soul and strength, or am I doing my routine, cheking of my prayer list, going through the motions. Am i really allowing Holy Spirit to take every part of me and conform it to Jesus. But MOST of all have I really Gotten TO KNOW Him better this week. What did I leanr new about Him this week. He is looking for a deep love relationship us more than anything. Thats my my boo for you.

  42. The key to understanding Matthew 7 is in Jesus' reaponse to them. "I never knew you". Find out what it means to Him that He never knew you and you will know who those that the passage refers too. However those whom Jesus has not known will also interpret this passage believing that they know Him but do not.

  43. I think the message here is that many do good works and prophesy (or pretend to) in Jesus' name but the bottom line is they haven't accepted Him as the Messiah or the Lord of their lives. They are the classic CINOS, Christians in name only. You see them on t.v. blathering on and asking for money every five minutes and swearing the only way to get God's blessings is to send them money so the 'portals of Heaven' will open up and shower you with more than you can handle. Oh, and there is always a time limit on doing that. And, no, they will not make it into the Kingdom for they don't know Him and He doesn't know them.

  44. You would have to prove that Luther was wrong about certain Jews he was dealing with at the time. I won't jump onto the train of politically correct fans, without further consideration. As for sources of info, sorry, I won't make that mistake again.

  45. Your comments are understandable in that the RCC regarded Luther as an arch heretic. But Pope Benedict saw Luther in a different light: http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Blog/939/the_pope_martin_luther_and_our_time.aspx

  46. I am very hard pressed to find God using someone with such very significant issues and problems to lead people from darkness to light. In fact, I have found none. I do not believe God changes how He leads people.

  47. Davida, that all is simply not true. The scripture had been translated into the vernacular in many languages throughout the history of christianity long before Luther came along. The printing press changed everything in regards to how easy it was to have a copy of the scriptures. Before the printing press making a copy of scriptures was a laborious, highly time consuming process that took years for one copy. They were done by hand. They were worth several years wages. They were considered priceless and could only be afforded by the most wealthy. Parishes, well before Luther, once they were able to obtain a copy, had to protect it against thieves. They could have locked them up and kept them from the masses, but they didn't do that. They put them out on podiums, chaining them down to discourage theft. But they were there and available. The Church Luther rebelled against also took advantage of the opportunity of the printing press, had the scriptures translated into the vernacular, and printed. People were required to buy a copy and have them in their homes and to read them. Luther's German version was not at all necessary for any of this to happen. In the 1500's there were more than 40 vernacular editions of the bible. France had 18 before 1547. Spain had begun publishing vernacular versions in 1478. Germany, in fact, had its first vernacular version of the scriptures in the 8th century. During the middle ages, there were numerous dialects in England, without any written vocabulary, so there was no written language to translate into. Latin was the universal written language in Europe up to the 1400's and the only one to be generally used. In fact, Sir Isaac Newton, in the 1660's, would not write his Principlicae Mathematica in English - his audience was too large, and English still too obscure a written language at the time. There is a great deal more to the story of the bible and it's translations than one is led to believe from your post.

  49. Christians -- in following Christ -- must be just in their judgements. There is absolutely no question that God used Martin Luther mightily -- in spite of his faults and prejudices. In addition to his translation, he wrote many hymns. "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (German: "Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott") is one of the best known hymns by the reformer Martin Luther, who wrote many hymns. Luther wrote the words and composed the melody sometime between 1527 and 1529.

  50. Who says that the cube of the New Jerusalem will be embedded on the earth? The New Jerusalem will hover over the earth, whereas the earth will be renewed altogether. The "heavenly city" always remains a heavenly city, and replaces the sun for light (Rev 21:23,24). There is much that has not been revealed regarding the communication between the New Jerusalem and the New Earth, but the one does not replace or displace the other.
