  1. It is sad that the subject of tongues is so divisive in the Body of Christ. Paul himself said he spoke in tongues more than all of the people he was writing to. He came after Jesus ascended into heaven. Actually speaking in tongues occurred AFTER Jesus ascended into heaven, so the idea that tongues ceased with Jesus is illogical at best. There are enough instances of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues to support the concept that tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit. There appears to be an indication that Peter and the original disciples thought tongues was only for Jewish believers until Gentile believers were baptized in the Holy Spirit after one of Peter's sermons. The only scriptures I know of that would indicate when the gifts of the Holy Spirit would be over are those referring to the end of the age or dispensation of the Holy Spirit at Christ's return. He obviously has not returned yet (because if He has, everyone in this forum is in a whole heap 'o trouble). So the Spirit gives gifts as He will (according to I Corinthians) and even Paul admonishes us to seek the best gifts. I agree that there has been a lot of abuse of tongues in the Body of Christ at large. That is why the Bible encourages us to fellowship with those of like precious faith. For myself, I have seen too much miraculous stuff to restrict God from operating anyway He sees fit. As a church leader one must set good examples and order for the exercise of the gifts. The reason this is not done is because even church leaders have not completely studied the gifts of the Holy Spirit; how they manifest; and how they are administered. Solid teaching of Scripture is the answer. In some cases, where people will not operate under the order set down by the church, I actually agree with restricting the gifts of the Spirit. However, that is an entirely different situation than saying the gifts are not for today. I do not think anyone who says that can prove, from scripture that is so.

  5. The Bible says there is only one unforgivable sin -- that's rejecting the call of the Holy Spirit to come to Christ and accept him in faith. Yes, suicide is a sin. It's not God's will. And I'm sure the devil delights in it. But it is no more unforgivable than any other sin that all of us commit. On the day I die, I expect I will have committed sins that I have not specifically taken to the Lord and not specifically asked forgiveness for. But that's okay because when I accepted Christ, he forgave ALL my sins, past, present and future. It was a done deal at the cross. As others have rightly said, God is just. He will not leave anybody who has accepted Christ's gift of salvation in faith out of the kingdom. That includes those who commit suicide.

  8. Well not by me, Jeff. I'm not a feminist myself; I'm a realist. I think the so calledl 'feminists' are predominantly man hating, unhappy women. God made men AND women and Jesus never forbade women preaching. I want to be an equal to men, not superior to them. Churches ARE patriarchal to a large degree but, if I wanted to be a deacon or preach, I would go about preparing myself to do that and the church leaders would have nothing to say about it. God doesn't forbid women from doing anything that I know of, occupation-wise, that is.

  9. It is even simplified more by the understanding that God is inexhaustible, without begin or end and giving to that which He began -His activity- without end toward that begin! Thus we were created in that image and can accomplish in s/Spirit the image we are when born again of God... If of flesh we meter giving because of natural resource however If of s/Spirit that meter then goes away... Love, Steven

  11. http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2017/04/21/arrest-wikileaks-assange-priority-sessions?cid=inbody:italian-court-rules-mobile-phone-caused-tumour Assange, 45, has been holed up at the Ecuadoran embassy in London since 2012 trying to avoid extradition to Sweden where he faces a rape allegation that he denies. He fears Sweden would extradite him to the United States to face trial for leaking hundreds of thousands of secret US military and diplomatic documents that first gained attention in 2010. Assange's case returned to the spotlight after WikiLeaks was accused of meddling in the US election last year by releasing a damaging trove of hacked emails from presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign and the Democratic party. US officials say the emails were hacked with the aid of the Russian government in its bid to influence the US election.

  12. I study music and artists as a hobby. I love some awful music that people would never listen too, along with music that I as a Christian probably shouldn't be listening too. Unfortunately, I just cannot for the life of me get into Contemporary Christian music. It's not the message, it's just the way most of the songs/singers sound. When it comes to Christ-centered music, I stick with hymns, or hymn-related songs. Contemporary Christian, especially Christian Rock, just sounds off to me. Is this a bad thing?

  13. Very simple post. I finally understand what life is about. Service. Love. Giving. Giving. Giving. Taking eyes off myself, and putting them on others. Serving others. Loving others. Giving of myself for the sake of others. THAT is the purpose of our lives...service to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ...giving of self. But even more so...the purpose is LOVING others as God loves. The purpose of living...is to SERVE OTHERS, not GLORIFY SELF. To state that...means that when we give and serve others, God will take care of our own needs. I think I understand now.

I felt left in the dark, because when I'd get recommended something, I didn't like it. I shouldn't worry about others' opinions, but this is something I've always wondered about.

  22. no. One can give, serve, love, but: Matthew 22 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. Isaiah 43:7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” We are created for God's glory. To know Him. If we align our will with His, then yes, we of course love and serve others: Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,

  24. I'm not saying anyone should change or add to the word of God, but "some," Christian men should read Proverbs 31: 12-21, and substitute she for he and him, and her for him, and try and take on board the attributes of a Proverbs 31 wife. A minister I knew many years ago gave a sermon on this very subject, how we should treat our women. 12, HE will do HER good and not evil all the days of HIS life. 13, HE seeketh tools, and timber, and worketh willingly with HIS hands. 14, HE is like the merchants' ships; HE bringeth HER food from afar. 15, HE riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to HIS household, and a portion to HIS servants. 16, HE considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of HIS hands HE planteth a vineyard. 17, HE girdeth HIS loins with strength, and strengtheneth HIS arms. 18, HE perceiveth that HIS merchandise is good: HIS candle goeth not out by night. 19, HE layeth HIS hands to the spindle, and HIS hands hold the distaff. 20, HE stretcheth out HIS hand to the poor; yea, HE reacheth forth HIS hands to the needy. 21, HE is not afraid of the snow for HIS household: for all HIS household are clothed with scarlet.

  32. We'll have to wait and see. I think this is good of President Trump to hope for a bipartisan congress concerning north Korea and the future steps that may be necessary. Rather than making a speech on the floor asking for bipartisan support on the record, he's bringing them in to likely show them intelligence the public wouldn't be privy to. A report surfaced last week saying Jung-un could have his own stockpile of nerve gas. Whether that is true I don't know. However, during the parade of weaponry in north Korea during their day of the sun celebration, it appeared that many of the missiles and rockets being hauled in the parade were fake. The tips of more than one missile seemed to be feeling the heat because even members of the press corp noticed they were curving a little . Jung-un would know of course what he really has in his arsenal. But that he's still making threats to unleash weapons of mass destruction if.... Is worthy of concern. He's demonstrated he's not exactly stable. It's like that old saying a friend of mine use to have. A crazy bloke off medication is scary . But a crazy bloke with a nuke is something to be watched. I admire Trump's inviting this meeting of Senators to the White house. It shows a willingness to work together for the common good of addressing the threat that Jung-un could present to the world. 39. I'm sure there are many out there who claim to be Christian who look down upon women, but does that make them Christian, since there is no room in Christianity for prideful people to use Biblical teachings to degrade anyone. There are certain roles that are given only to men, but that isn't to degrade anyone, but to complete a chain of authority began by God and handed down to mankind to complete God's plan. Those that attempt to abuse others by utilizing this plan is not to complete God's plan, but to co-opt it for their own benefit. If scripture is used, but is administered to anyone's favor then the abuser needs to be called out respectfully, so that error can be addressed. If it was an omission in error, than that will be known. If it was not then it will be known that the error was on our part for listening to the person, in the first place. What is needed is clarification of intent because the intent matters. If a person excludes a portion of a scripture and does so out of thoughtless repetition, then you may very well aid him in his spiritual growth as well as strengthen the ties of Christian ties.

  40. Serve not to be served. we are to live by his example. Amen to your discovery. John 13:4-9 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” 8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” 9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” Isaiah 58:10 If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. 1 John 3:17-18 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

  41. Isaiah 45:9 9"Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker-- An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?' Or the thing you are making say, 'He has no hands'? 1 Corinthians 10:22 Are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? God is a Jealous God, we are not to take the course of our life and/or life span into our own hands, as to tell God now is my time, in place of God saying now is your time. None of us will know the fate or the decision of God on this subject till the day of Judgment, by then there is not changing course. only thing you can do is seek God and petition him for your friends eternal destination. God does answer prayers and has been known to ease his judgment in the past when someone came to him with a request for consideration. Moses with the Israelites, Jonathan after he ate the honey and Saul had said previously let the life be taken of any man that eats prior to our victory. or Abrahams petition for the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. God hears, listens and answers.

  42. Omegaman's answer was good, though I didn't read others. The basis for religion must be TRUTH or you following a fantasy. With the bible you have so far 100% fulfilled prophecy its the most challenged for valid truth out of all the so called religions I am to believe. One's search is to find the original against other so-called ancient religions. God said I will tell you beforehand, what will come to past so you will know it comes from Me, Christianity on that basis stands alone with no equal. In its philosophy Christianity has no equal also, it's the only religion not based on one's own efforts. Basing a religion on one's one effort is problematic by nature, because you will always end up judging your merits against another persons (Look how good I am) self elevation or failure. Humans are not good creatures Look how we treat our world & those in it.

  43. Welcome Starlight77 to Worthy I appreciate your question as it it giving some very good answers. The answer that confirmed to me that taking ones life is truly not in our best interest is the response from Hazard. When a person is thinking about taking ones life, many times that person is not in their right frame of mind. God knows the condition of every one of our hearts. God is the final judge. All we as Christians truly need know and seek to know is how to keep our own heart geared towards Gods and His plan of Salvation always. That passage from Corinthians, certainly made my opinion stronger that suicide would not be a good idea. Last week I spoke to a secular christian, and he is right now taking care of his father who has dementia and he told me, that, if he himself had the first signs of having dementia, he would ask the doctors to euthanize him. I am glad that I read this thread as now I have a very clear bible passage to show to my secular friend, that it is not a good idea, and hopefully this will draw my friend closer to the Lord.

You know that this is MY favorite song & when Kate was telling me she wanted to share Jacies favorite song with everyone she said"Its a beautiful song but Jacie loved the way Mercy Me does it" I said "I love Mercy Me"....give me the link & I will do it for you because Kate is having the hardest time of her life and we all know we can suddenly forget how to do the simplest thing when we are going through tragedy, not even such as this..... Meanwhile as Kate was sending me the song I pulled up MY song, the very one she was sending.......need I say we cried like babies, this song was posted to Celebrate Jacie's life by giving God His Glory due......It's an Amazing Testimony for both Kate and I as we always walked by Faith & not by sight and through this time of great sorrow & mourning we SEE God ALIVE and Ever Present in times of trouble....Providing everything Kate needs as she goes through this tribulation, surrounding her with love & support through His Body,Orchestrating each scenario along the way to guide our every footstep and Miraculously ,as ONLY HE Can DO.......Filling her with His Peace,Comfort & yes,Joy............that by no means MEANS there is an ounce of "happiness" in her life bu the JOY of the Lord is Present..............With love-in Christ,Kwik

  45. If you have sincerely asked Jesus Christ into your life and your heart Jesus is always with you through the Holy Spirit. I do not watch those kind of movies because I do not think they are healthy for my mind and eyes to digest. Satan is the one who wants you to be afraid. His biggest goal is that you pull away from God and embrace him. Pray often. Have a daily relationship with Christ. He loves you and He wants to hear from you often. Tell Him about your fears. He wants to hear everything about your life even the things that you might think are insignificant.

  46. Many people have unwanted thoughts. It is the enemy attacking our minds trying to scare us and manipulate us. But he is a liar and the father of lies. So direct your thought to God and His word, as Kwik said. Play Christian music on a radio, if you can, or buy a CD of Christian music. Praise music, Christmas carols, and hymns that turn your thoughts to Jesus really help. Memorize verses, or even the book of John, if it is easy for you to memorize. Romans 8 is a good passage as well, and the first chapter of Ephesians., Ask God to help you understand if you have any difficulty. It is always good to pray that God would make these a real part of your life. God never leaves you once you have turned away from sin and turned to God for help and deliverance from it and forgiveness. God loves you more than you can ever imagine. And nothing can separate you from His love.

  47. Blessings Mat Welcome to Worthy......I sent you some posting info, this type of question would be best to discuss further with you in a Discussion Forum where you can reply ....like the "Need Advice" Forum......theres lots of questions I would love to ask that would be helpful in answering your question(s) Going to church every Sunday is great, its wonderful to actively participate in corporate prayer & worship but that does not mean you have any personal Relationship with God in Christ and I have no idea what "praying" is to you...I know there are people that recite the "Lords Prayer"as a vain repetition with no thought whatsoever.....just babbling "words".....so I can't comment there Certainly what we "take in" with our eyes is going to either take in good or bad,......we are not given a Spirit of FEAR ,fear is not of God.......you are not going to become "possessed" but sounds like you have become oppressed by fear.......you are not watching those things anymore I presume so start "filling" your eyes & your ears with the things of God......because of what you "were" watching is not going to have any effect on you if you simply stop dwelling on it and move forward into the Arms of Jesus Embrace.....focus on Him,Read the Book of John and ask Him to Reveal Himself to you,get to know Jesus, dwell on having a Relationship with Him.....theres a really big difference between knowing ABOUT Jesus & KNOWING Jesus......you can be FREE in Jesus,Free from any bondage,,,,,,don't let the grip of fear get a foothold....... Fear has no place in a mind filled with FAITH,LOVE,JOY.......read Gods Word,Faith comes by hearing the Word of God With love-in Christ,Kwik
