  5. To me this scripture verse is a powerful reminder of who the christian truly is and how he must navigate this life till his ship docks and anchor. Every time i read this verse it comforts my soul. 2 Timothy 4 King James Version (KJV) 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

  6. So many threads here on works vs grace. Acts 16:30-31 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Now, there is the verse that states even the devil believes in Jesus, so there obviously are qualifications to this verse, yet if one is asking what can they do to be saved, this verse and others show only faith will save. The fact that someone is asking how, I believe, shows they are sincere, though I'm not sure it shows any remorse or repentance. Even after being saved, there is the battle between flesh and spirit, so I'm interested in why so many are quick to judge someones salvation by looking at their failures in the war of flesh and spirit? John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. No works there, faith brings eternal life, passes from death into life, no scare tactic that one might lose salvation in this promise! John 11:25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,

  8. Hi OldCoot, Yes, we are not to wrangle over words, however the statement `I agree to disagree,` means that you agree - to not helping that person. (maybe atheist, young believer etc) You are agreeing to something that is not scriptural. People think it means that it is OK to disagree, which it is, however we need to have the door open to help that other person come to the truth. When we say, `I agree -.......` to something, then that is what we are agreeing TO DO - to leave the person in their error. However when we say `I agree THAT we see things differently, then that leaves room for more discussion. Marilyn.

  9. We can disagree on the side issues that are debatable, but on the essentials there has to be some sort of agreement. Obviously, who Jesus is, is an essential. Whether a church has their meeting on Saturday evening or Sunday morning is not. But to some, even some of these side issues become a litmus test of whether one is heretical or not. That is carrying things too far. The adversary likes nothing more than when we are food fighting with each other and it gets to that level. It compromises our witness.

  11. Short answer is yes, because people are NOT good. I cannot say, I am a good person, because I never killed anyone, I never raped anyone, I never stole anything. If I never borrowed a paper clip that I never returned, if I never drove a mile an hour over the speed limit, if I never told a single lie or tried to deceive anyone, if I never harbored a bad thought about anyone, then maybe I could begin to think of myself as good. Getting to Heaven, is not about how good I was one the scale of overall behavior in my life. That is not the standard. The standard is "Have I ever sinned even one time, just a little, in my life?" If I have ever sinned, that makes me a sinner, and it is unsaved sinners, who go to Hell. However, there is hope, because Jesus ransomed some people, those who believe in Him, from Hell. So, as it turns out, there are sinners who are going to Hell, and there are sinners, who have been saved from Hell.

  13. We must be willing to give up everything for Him. In practicality, most people are never asked to. It's a question of dedication of the heart and mind and body. Part of our faith is knowing that God knows best for us; if we believe that, then we should be willing to act like it by following Him instead of ourselves.

  14. Your question hinges on the word "need". I will share from my own life. God never really asked me to give up everything. As I began to grow in faith, I found that "other" things such as alcohol, smoking, work, etc. became hindrances to the development of my spiritual life. Now since I couldn't "give up" my job and survive, I had to learn that putting the job in proper priority with respect to God was "giving up" my job. In other words, my relationship with Jesus became more important than my job. That manifested in me being a better employee because Jesus did not want me to be habitually late. In addition, I adjusted my attitude towards management because they represented God's authority over that part of my life. I have been a Christian for nearly 50 years and I can say that I pretty much have "given up everything" to follow Christ. But the "giving up" was more a process of learning what pleased Jesus and then removing things that did not please Him. Since he is gracious and forgiving, we can take our time and get rid of things as we are ready to do so. But the process of "giving up" things is not as terrible as one might think. Because Jesus is a God of exchanges. Even though it might not be crystal clear from Scripture, there is not one thing you give up for God that He does not give you something better in return. For example, giving up my bad attitudes toward people, allowed God to give me joy and peace which caused my own mind to come into order and caused me to change my thought patterns from negative to positive. So while the concept of "giving up" everything is radical, the actual process may or may not be so. It's up to Jesus and each individual. My question is this: do you want 10% of Jesus; 50% of Jesus; or 100%. You can have which ever one you want. But with increasing percentages, you will find greater sacrifice is required...but there are greater rewards as well. Blessings

  15. Freebird, My dear, you have a real challenge. While the alcoholism is a terrible burden to bear, you cannot help but be angry at the womanizing because that tears at the very basis of your marriage. And feeling numb is not a desirable outcome either because if you become numb to your husband, you will have a tendency to become numb to God as well....and that is NOT good. According to I Corinthians 7:14, " 14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy." That means that, as a believing wife, you are now sanctifying your husband, which is a high and holy calling. Just because you sanctify him though, does not make you responsible for his sins (alcoholism and womanizing), nor does it relieve him of his guilt. When you sanctify someone, you dedicate them as holy to God....which means that God is now responsible for them. He gets the job of fixing them...which is His job anyway. Now, because of the nature of your husband's sins, he is transmitting a LOT of sickness to you in the form of stress and potentially in the form of physical or emotional abuse. When you are trying to be holy and pure, that sort of thing really discourages you. My response is that you first find a church with people willing to just pray for you and love on you. That will feed your spirit and soul and provide a source of divine love "with skin on". That love is supposed to come from your husband, but he is not giving it to you...so the church should. If you are experiencing financial or physical trauma as a result of anything he is doing, please seek counsel from a pastor, lawyer or even a Christian psychologist. You DO NOT want to stay in an unsafe relationship. Assuming you are "working through", you need to spend time every day in the Bible. These are the words of God Himself and they will provide food for your soul and food for your heart. Besides, God blesses those who read and study His word. That will build your knowledge of godly ways the quickest. If there is a bible study or women's bible study available once a week, put that on your schedule. That will do 2 things: first, it will provide you with fellowship and prayer support and second, it will provide you with knowledge and learning. Last, find a way to be thankful. Start with the little things, and build up. God appreciates it when we are thankful. I am sure there are some blessings you have or even things you are working on. Gratitude often leads to joy, which is spiritual strength, which is what you need to deal with your husband. As I am sure you have found out, nagging him about his "issues" isn't really working. So here is what you do. First, hold him accountable for things that he is responsible for. Tell him once and only once (unless it is life threatening). After that, take the issue directly to God and speak your mind. God can handle it. Remind God of His promise to fix your husband. Let out all the anger you have for your husband on God. When you have all the emotion out, wait in silence and let the Holy Spirit fill you with the sweetness of His presence. Once you are fully sweet, you can deal with anybody. Stay focused on God even if NOT doing something might cause the rent to be late or something similar. When things fall apart, you will have a clear indicator of what he is or is not going to do. At THAT point, you protect yourself and do what you must. REMEMBER: the goal of the exercize is to win your husband to Christ. If that is not possible, your husband will make his own decision. Be blessed. We are all in prayer here.

  16. You make it sound bad..... "give up everything" can mean different things to a lot of people. Would you have to give up being a drunk.... I would think so. I think we would need to discuss what "things"are. Follow Jesus and have a relationship with him........ oh my, you have no idea of how great it is to be in that position. Having a relationship with the creator of the universe is a glorious thing.... From experience of coming from kind of far down the ladder I would say that you would have to give up things that are detrimental to you and accept many many things that are helpful. Peace of mind would be one of the most rewarding to me.

  17. I am probably going to have a horror nightmare tonight about this. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/annegret-raunigk-65-year-old-german-grandmother-gives-birth-to-quadruplets/ - A 65-year-old teacher from Berlin has given birth to quadruplets aftera pregnancy that was widely criticized by medical professionals because of her age, RTL television said Saturday. Annegret Raunigk, gave birth to a girl - Neeta - and three boys - Dries, Bence and Fjonn - by cesarean section at a Berlin hospital Tuesday, RTL said. The newborns weighed between 655 grams (1 lb., 7 ounces) and 960 grams (2 lbs., 2 ounces) each. A spokeswoman for RTL said the babies stood a strong chance of survival but possible complications couldn't yet be ruled out, because they were born in the 26th week of pregnancy. Their mother was doing well, the spokeswoman said. "Ms. Raunigk basically has no medical risk anymore," Heike Speda told The Associated Press. She said the woman had signed a contract granting RTL exclusive access in return for an undisclosed sum. Raunigk already had 13 children ranging in age from 9 to 44, from five fathers. She told Germany's Bild newspaper last month that she decided to become pregnant again because her 9-year-old daughter wanted a younger sibling. She also has seven grandchildren. Raunigk traveled abroad to have donated, fertilized eggs implanted - a procedure that is illegal in Germany.

Jesus said blessed are the poor in spirit. The meek and humble souls. I have to pity Christians who have hard hearts. They are poor and think they are rich. And the worst part there fellowship in the spirit is really broken. Wherever you are Steve I am praying for you.

  20. Ok sisters, I will post this and really have nothing more to add on the matter, people can choose for themselves. Genesis 3:22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” Genesis 3:24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life. The tree of life is inaccessible to man, man must not be allowed to take from the tree of life and eat. This has not changed since the fall of man, there is no getting around this, no scripture to support it. The two verses above from Genesis cannot be reconciled to your claim, ignoring what they say does not make this theory believable. Revelation 2:7 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Only the one who is victorious is given the right to the tree of life, so how does one gain victory? You cannot claim Jesus is the one who gives us victory and at the same time claim to have been denied access to Him until after the new age. The victorious one cannot eat from the tree of life until afterward, in eternity, post-millennium, post-judgement, etc. You cannot have washed your robes without Jesus, it is only His blood that purifies us, so how does one wash their robe to have the right to the tree of life if the tree of life is the one whose blood your robes are washing in? Basically what you are falling for here is a gnostic teaching, the same trick Eve fell for in the garden. Only Jesus atones for sin, only His blood washes your robe and makes you victorious, and these two things are required prior to gaining access to the tree of life. Thus, eliminating your claim as being even remotely possible. The victory is in Him, not in ourselves, and these verses here are the key to understanding the truth on the matter. You are both putting the cart in front of the horse, you really need to pay close attention to precisely what these verses in this post say. God bless

  21. I believe that children are not accountable for their sins until they reach an age of accountability. Until this time, they are alive in Christ because of the atonement of Christ. In other words, newborns and infants are alive in Christ because of his atonement and shall be received into paradise if they die before reaching the age of accountability.

  22. I think the point of this verse is to emphasize the importance of faith in the Lord Jesus. We need to believe that he is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and that through faith in him we can be cleansed from sin and lifted up at the last day.

  24. Hi Cobalt, Mmmm now I think God wrote more than John 3: 16. So...I would say that the bottom line is whether or not Jesus is both Lord and Christ. He is God`s purpose (Eph. 1: 9 & 10) and we come under that. `...he (God) purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one, (unity and harmony) all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth - in Him.` (Eph. 1: 9 & 10) All of God`s word is to reveal Christ to us in all His glory. To just focus on the means (salvation) to the ends, (eternal purposes) would limit our appreciation and understanding of Christ and God`s purposes in Him. regards, Marilyn.

Sometimes we take it all on our shoulders and, when we don't see results, we feel like we've failed. God only asks us to follow Him and be His witnesses; leave the changing of lives and hearts to Him.

  29. On the salvation issues, I agree with Cobalt1959 and OneLight. However, Marilyn C was speaking of our dealings with atheists and other non-believers. Romans 12:18 says, " If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. " Since "all men" most likely includes atheists, non-believers and other assorted miscreants, I believe "agree to disagree" would be appropriate. Our agreement extends only to the topic we disagree about and in no way obligates us to any worldly doctrine or heresy. At least by being agreeable, we sow the seed for future discussions at which time we plant another seed for Jesus. While man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, we have been given dominion over words, so we should be able to use them however we see fit to give glory to God and promote the Kingdom.

We have expressions like "go against the flow" which meant to swim up stream when all the rest are going down stream. In fact, Jesus said it would be better for the people who cause a young Cristian to fall if should have a millstone tied around there neck. SO they taunt you, or lie about you ---it doen't help 'the the pain right now to know God will reward you in heaven. It just hurts. So we weep with you. By the way, only God can change them. He will change their hearts. So keep praying for them.

  31. Hello Christy, It's difficult to really give a definitive answer to this question because there are so many unknown variables. Maybe the issue is you are trying to hard? What I mean by that is, maybe some of your efforts are misplaced in that they are not God's will, but your own will and what you have determined to be the right thing to do? Sometimes the best thing to do is pray and be still, make sure you are doing what God wants as opposed to what you want. God bless

  33. Dear kwikphilly. Thanks for your comments. No, not a typo! Here you are: Matthew 24:30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earthwill mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. Are you using this verse to set the scene? I'm assuming so as this does not provide any evidence for a rapture. on the contrary, if you refer to the application of symbolism in my previous post you'll see this statement from Jesus is consistent with his coming to earth to set up an earthly kingdom. The Son of Man will appear, on earth, in heaven - the ruling 'heaven' or high place (consistent with other scripture). The mourning of the earthly population is because the day of judgement is come, the day of the Lord (many scriptures eg. Joel) and the vengeance of our God (Is.61). They will see the Son of Man coming because he is in earthly places and they are earthly people. That's obvious! The clouds of heaven, again, must be consistent with other scripture, so we see Jesus with his redeemed, the clouds of witnesses from Hebrews. The redeemed given names and places in his Kingdom on earth. Rulers with Jesus who is the King promised to David to sit on his throne in Zion. Power and great glory is obvious now. Luke 17:31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. Applying this statement to the day of Lord when he (Jesus) appears on the earth (and not the dual application destruction of Jerusalem in AD70 and end of the commonwealth of Israel, which we might also discuss) we can easily see this is a reference to the happens set out on 1 Thess 4. The dead in Christ to be raised and those alive at his coming will be taken to him (no one is denying that) - just like Thess 4 says. From the heavens and the four winds is, again, symbolism, that is from all the world, where ever the redeemed, saints, elect (whatever scriptural name you wish to use) happen to be when Jesus appears as the thief in the night. 34 I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Consistent with the above. We know Jesus is to gather his elect for judgement. Also to appreciate this is a strong reference to the turmoil and desperation that Jerusalem witnessed in AD70 when the population was besieged, starved, overthrown and taken into captivity! 35 Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.” Consistent with the above. We know Jesus is to gather his elect for judgement. 37 “Where, Lord?” they asked. He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.” This may be a reference to Jerusalem as the carcass. Other translations have it 'eagles' which may be a reference to the Roman army or a system that did the work. Whatever, we have a vision of something no long living that is picked over, What is Jesus teaching? The end of something important to God - His people in His land, Israel. Again, though, note Jesus uses symbols. Mark 13:24 “But in those days, following that distress, “ ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; Symbols, not literal. The sun and moon (as in Rev) representing the ruling classes, kings and priests for example. Think of Israel again, the Judaic system was overthrown by the Romans (their transgressions were full) and the ruling class and priesthood were demolished. Jesus simply expresses that happening in symbols - like his did to John in Rev. Same for your next point. 25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ 26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. With reference to the destruction of Israel in AD70 we have the symbol of the day of the Lord (be careful - there are many days of the Lord) where the Son of Man is expressed as coming upon the earth in the form of an avenging army on God's rebellious and disobedient people. The Roman army did indeed come with power and glory. I suspect you won't like that one as an exposition of the words of Jesus here. On the second application - still future - we can simply go back to the explanation that Jesus is to come to the earth with the overt power of his Father to establish the Kingdom of God in Israel (Acts 1) as he must and this will be a complete change to the earth requiring great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. Done this above John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Ah, yes! Forgive me please. This is a gift for my argument and, with much respect, if I may, undermines the rapture idea. Look what Jesus says! "that you also may be where I am." He comes to the earth to restore the Kingdom to Israel in Israel to fulfil God's promise to David (not to mention Abraham) and so he is telling his elect they will be with him there - on the earth, not in heaven. He cannot fulfil the promise to David there! All the best

  34. Thanks BK1110 I apologise for the delay. Also sorry for the length of this reply - I'm summarising as much as I dare. Before looking at the passage in Thessalonians let's start (and agree ?) that the Kingdom of God (also referred to as the Kingdom of Heaven) is to located on the Earth - not in heaven. If we can't agree that fact there's little point in continuing the conversation. So, with that in place, we have the rapture as inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus, the apostles and the prophets about the Kingdom of God Jesus will establish when he comes. Therefore, we must expose the actual teaching of Paul in 1 Thess. Here we go: 1. Firstly, Paul says clearly that "the Lord himself shall descend from heaven" . . (v 16) 2. Then follows the resurrection - "the dead in Christ shall rise first" (v 16) 3. They will then be joined by those who are alive at the time Jesus returns - "then we which are alive and remain" . . (v 17) 4 They "shall be caught up together with them" (v 17). The Greek word translated 'caught up' is 'harpazo' (Strong's Concordance 726 - 'to seize, catch away'. Also translated 'to catch away, to carry off' Those alive when Jesus returns will be caught away to join with the dead in Christ who have already been raised. The same word is used in Acts 8:39 - 40 - "The Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip",. and he "was found at Azotus." 5. "in the clouds" (v 17) The definite article is missing in the Greek, and should be rendered "in clouds". We should recognise this as referring to clouds of the redeemed as in Hebrews 12: 1 - "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses." 6. "to meet the Lord in the air". The same Greek word is used in Revelation, "And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air"(ch 16:17). We are aware that this is a book of sign and the air or the heavens, where the sun and the moon and the stars are to be found, represent the ruling classes, while 'the earth' represents the common people. The air in Revelation refers to the political firmament upon which the seventh vial is poured, and our verse in Thessalonians has to do with the role of the redeemed (saints) in high political office - they will be co-rulers with Christ in the earthly kingdom." If we suffer, we shall also reign with him" (2 Tim.2:12} and, "hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth." (Rev,5.10). I think we have a coherent fit of 1 Thess with our wider understanding of the coming Kingdom of God. If we maintain an idea that the rapture is a taking away of the redeemed in Christ to heaven we have a misfit. I believe. There is more I can supply, should you wish. Regards

  43. I know we are to forgive. Sometimes it is not easy. Sometimes you have to admit to the Lord you can't. Alot of the things the Lord has called us to do, many people just can't do and some walk away with great sorrow. But, the good news is even when we can not Jesus can. Some times we have to reach out in faith knowing the power to forgive isnt in us. In my own walk i had a horrible struggle with unforgiveness. I really faught the Lords command in my mind from the wound deep in my soul. Wonderful councelor argued with me to no end. One day mourning with tears what had been stolen from me. Holy Spirit started councel in my mind. What have you Lost that can not be replaced? I thought on it. Again in my mind. How could anything ruin your life and stop you from being what I have made you to be? I thought on it. At the moment of His intrusion i was frustrated because i was trying to take the box blade off my tractor and switch to the brush hog and mow. A person i believed to be a brother in Christ and that i was married to 30 years had taken every thing of value that was not titled to my ministry and ran off with another women while i was fighting for my life. He didnt even leave a hammer. And i was hitting the box blade with a board trying to get the pin out. I was crying my eyes out beating the heck out of the pin and i just crumpled to the ground in frustration when the board broke. Then i heard again in my mind? What has been taken from you i can't replace? I answered in defeat. "Nothing my Lord, I'm so angry Lord i cant forgive him. I know i need to forgive, i want to obey Lord, but i can't Help me forgive him Lord." I didnt know a christian brother was also receiving councel. He was at home packing his belongings and leaving the next day to start a missionary in Ireland. His wife was already in Ireland getting things started. He was a mechanic and a handy man and had his truck full of tools but the cost of shipping them to Ireland was so High. He was asking the Lord what should I do with them? I had never met him before this Day but he had heard of my trouble and my horses and my ministry. He had looked up where my ranch is. I walked up from the pasture where i fighting with the box blade and the Lord, rounded the corner and saw a loaded truck out side my gate and a strange man standing by it. He told me his name and about his ministry in Ireland and his leaving. Said" i just had in my heart to gives these tools to you. I said ok. Thinking one of the boxes were tools and i thanked him and the Lord because i thought he provides me with a hammer so i could mow. It was everything in the Truck. Saws, compressors, full sets of wrenches, ratchets, pliers, wire cutters, grinders, shovels, rakes, hammers, sledge hammers, hammer drills. We just kept unloading the truck and the tools. I just kept crying my eyes out. He shook my hand when we were done. We prayed for one anothers ministries and he left. I didnt have any words i think I was in shock. Then in my mind i thought, nothing was taken that you cant replace. Lord Thank you. He hasnt stopped me from being what youe making me to be or stopped me from doing anything you calles me to do. I was healed never have had an angry thought or hurt heart about my x husband since. He doesnt expect everyone with every hurt to obey in flesh. Just pretend like we obey when our hearts full of anger our bitterness isnt forgiveness. He does help when we confess to him our weakness and our desire to obey. Hope this will me a help to someone struggling some day.

  44. Matthew 7:16-20 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

  45. This was discussed in our sermon in church last Sunday . Galatians 1: 6-10 No Other Gospel 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusionand are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you,let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse! 10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. What stood out to you from the passage you read? Questions: How important is the gospel truth to you? Why will understanding the true gospel produce anger at the false gospels? What other gospels do you find that are easy for you to believe and why? What are some modern false gospel dangers our church could easily fall for? Read vs 10: When you live to please only God and not people ,how does that change everything? Jesus +anything else =nothing. Jesus and _______nothing (no rules or laws) =everything. If we love Jesus we would want to do things +live for Jesus.

  46. This is a second posting of this bible study. The first one got chopped up in one of the forum upgrades. The methodology and commentaries I used are listed at the end of the study. Psalm 2 A Messianic psalm. The Messianic Psalms are 2, 8, 16, 22, 23, 24, 40, 41, 45, 68, 69, 72, 89, 102, 110, and 118. Many other Psalms also refer to Christ. There is, however, every reason to suppose that David was the author; and by those who admit the authority of the New Testament this will not be doubted. The reasons for supposing that its authorship is to be traced to David are the following: (a) It is expressly ascribed to him in Acts 4:25-26 who by the mouth of Your servant David has said, "Why did the nations rage and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ." (b) This is the common opinion respecting its origin among Hebrew writers. It is not possible to ascertain the exact time when it was composed; nor can we now ascertain what was the occasion on which it was written. The probability would seem to be that the psalm was not designed to refer to anything which had occurred in the time of the author himself, but, that the writer intended to refer mainly to the Messiah Literary construction It naturally falls into four parts, of three verses each. I. In the first Psa_2:1-3 the conduct and purposes of the raging nations are described. II. In the second part Psa_2:4-6 the feelings and purposes of God are described. III. In the third part Psa_2:7-9 the King himself, the Anointed One, speaks, and states the decree which had been formed in reference to himself, and the promise which had been made to him. IV. In the fourth part Psa_2:10-12 the psalmist exhorts the rulers of the nations to yield to the claims of the Anointed One, threatening divine wrath on those who should reject him, and promising a blessing on those who should put their trust in him. The second Psalm gives the order of the establishment of the kingdom in six parts: 1) The rage of the Gentiles, the vain imagination of "people", and the antagonism of rulers against Jehovah's anointed (Psa_2:1-3). The inspired interpretation of this is in (Act_4:25-28) which asserts its fulfilment in the crucifixion of Christ. 2) The derision of Jehovah (Psa_2:4) that men should suppose it possible to set aside His covenant (2Sa_7:8-17) and oath (Psa_89:34-37). 3) The vexation (Psa_2:5) (to be fully fulfilled more completely in the tribulation (Mat_24:29) which immediately precedes the return of the King). 4) The establishment of the rejected King upon Zion (Psa_2:6). 5) The subjection of the earth to the King's rule (Psa_2:7-9) and 6) the present appeal to the world powers. (Psa_2:10-12). The main thought is pursued through the whole of it - the exalted claims and ultimate triumph of him who is here called “the Anointed;” the vanity of opposition to his decrees; and the duty and advantage of yielding to his authority. The psalm, in its construction, is one of the most perfect in the Book of Psalms, according to the special ideal of Hebrew poetry. Some New Testament references Acts 4 (above) and Acts 13 show the link with this psalm and the Messiah. Paul notes that it was a doctrine of the Old Testament that the Messiah was to rise from the dead. Acts 13:32-33 And we preach the gospel to you, the promise made to the fathers, this God has fulfilled to us their children, raising up Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, "You are My Son, this day I have begotten You.” And again, the same passage is quoted by Paul to establish the exalted rank of the Messiah as being above the angels: Hebrews 1:5 For to which of the angels did He say at any time, "You are My Son, this day I have begotten You?" And again, "I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son?" The psalm had an original and exclusive reference to the Messiah as shown by: 1) It is so applied in the New Testament, and is referred to in no other way. In Act_4:24-27, the apostles quote the first verses of the psalm, and referring them to Christ: Acts 4:24-7 And having heard, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said, Lord, You are the God who made the heaven and earth, and the sea, and all that is in them; who by the mouth of Your servant David has said, "Why did the nations rage and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ." For truly, against Your holy child Jesus, whom You have anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the nations, and the people of Israel, were gathered together Again, the psalm is quoted by Paul Act_13:32-33 as applicable to Christ, and with reference to the fact that it was a doctrine of the Old Testament that the Messiah was to rise from the dead: Acts 13:32-33 And we preach the gospel to you, the promise made to the fathers, this God has fulfilled to us their children, raising up Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, "You are My Son, this day I have begotten You." And again, in Heb_1:5, the same passage is quoted by Paul to establish the exalted rank of the Messiah as being above the angels: Hebrews 1:5 For to which of the angels did He say at any time, "You are My Son, this day I have begotten You?" And again, "I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son?" 2) In the older Jewish writings, the Talmud, etc., there is a variety of passages in which the Messianic interpretation is given to the psalm. 3) That it refers to the Messiah is manifest from the psalm itself. a) It cannot be applied to David, or to any other earthly king; that is, there are expressions in it which cannot be applied with any degree of propriety to any earthly monarch whatever. b) The psalm agrees with the account of the Messiah, or is in its general structure and details applicable to him.

  47. Amen KIm , ,there is one one truth found and that is in Jesus He is all we need....will always be with us and guide us in all truth..~~~ What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer! Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer. Are we weak and heavy-laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield thee, Thou wilt find a solace there. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear; May we ever, Lord, be bringing All to Thee in earnest prayer. Soon in glory bright, unclouded, There will be no need for prayer— Rapture, praise, and endless worship Will be our sweet portion there.

  48. The truth is the most important thing to me. Jesus is truth and He is my Lord and Savior. Sometimes I get benefit from reading all the red letters in the Bible. It comforts me to know what Jesus said.

  49. Blessings Worthy Family, I must say ,this has been a delightful thread...so many different views but everyone just absorbing what each other has to offer,,,,,really refreshing!I have truly enjoyed this topic and could see the young & the mature in Christ, & once again I am reminded of where God has taken me from....I don't think of how I was until I see glimpses of my old self here and there.....it brings me to a place of gratitude and awe...glory to God in the Highest! I was just reminded of the day, many years ago, I was sitting watching a sermon on T.V. and it had absolutely nothing to do with what came over me,I glanced over at all my 100's(or less?)of rap and hard rock CD's and put them all in front of me and proceeded to break each one before throwing them all in the trash(lol)....it felt so good,I could feel the atmosphere in my home just filled with peace.......never have I even thought about one single disc(can't even remember what half of them were?It was not something I thought about, struggled with or even asked the Lord about......He just renewed my heart and mind,I know I commented that He changed me on an earlier post but I just this very moment remembered that very moment... Same thing with T.V...Oh,I so enjoyed vampire slayer movies.even Buffy series(lol)....sometimes I forget I am not into it anymore and I will turn on one of those type movies,I just turn it off in seconds.....not interested, don't like it.....all I can say is Jesus is amazing.....from a once very hardened, desensitized heart to who I am in Christ....praise Jesus!Wait-n-see young ones....you don't have to do a thing but keep loving and seeking the Lord.... With love,in Christ-Kwik
