  1. The details of the passage are interesting, more so, if you know more Bible than just this section. Jesus tells a story to those "testing" Him. He does the common rabbincal custom of turning it around, asking a question of his own. He was asked about what one must do to inherit eternal life. I find that wording particularly interesting. I did not check the Greek to see if that word "inherit" is accurate, but on the assumption it is, it is an interesting word. He could have asked, "What must I do to "earn" or to "deserve" eternal life. Earning would focus the reward as due to the actions of the receiver. However, to inherit something, you do not earn it, you receive it as a benefit of being, perhaps, a child of a father of means. Certainly, you can see where I am going with this. However, that is not all that is captivating about this passage. While the teacher of the law is testing Jesus, Jesus turns it around and asks him: “What is written in the Law, how do you read it?”., As we might say in our time, "What does the Bible say, how do you interpret it?" The man gives a good answer, and Jesus says as much. About loving his neighbor though, the man asks, "and who is my neighbor?" What an opening! As you know, Jesus tells a story about a man who finds himself among thieves, he is stripped of his clothes, beaten and abandoned. He told about people, who are held in high regard for their religiosity, who just walk by the victim, ignoring him, wanting nothing to do with him. Finally a Samaritan happens by and has compassion on the man, and takes it upon himself to not to ignore the injured man. Now, here is where it helps to understand the historical context of this tale. The Samaritans, were a group of people who were tribally different from the Jews, but shared some ancestry. They believed most of the same things, but they believed that a different mountain, was the proper focal point of worship of the true God. That is one thing that divided them. The Jews also saw the Samaritans, as half breeds, having gentile bloodlines, and so had a disdain of them. This is just more ignorant, irrational racism, that has existed among mankind commonly. For a Jew, such as this teacher of the Law that Jesus was adressing, to have the Samaritan emerge in the story, as the nice and compassionate man compared to the religious Jews in the story, was probably not a good thing to hear, practically an insult. However Jesus, again puts the pressure on with a question: “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The the expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” Now, Jesus has answered the man's question, on how to inherit eternal life, how to apply the commandment to love you neighbor. Here, I am going to toss something in here, not original with me, but I think worthy of consideration. We already noted, that in the parable, that there was a victim, who "finds himself among thieves and he is stripped of his clothes, beaten and abandoned" Does that remind you of anyone else in the New Testament? In case anyone is not tracking with me here, I will point out, that Jesus was stripped, and was beaten, he found Himself among thieves, and He was also, abandoned. At the same time, this Samaritan man in the parable, perhaps personifies as being part Hebrew and part Gentile, that God is the God of both and that God has accepted both, who are loving of Him, so that they can have an inheritance, eternal life as children of God. Just a thought! Thank you for reading the Bible with me and others, and for hearing what it says to us, and sharing in that, as family. I appreciate you all.

  2. I also believe Catholics can be saved if they are born again....truly trusting in Christ alone as their Savior. However, since alot of the Catholic church's teachings are wrong and can mislead people, it would be best to leave that church and seek a loving church where the Bible is taught. But I guess they need to see the need to leave it themselves...

  4. I like the Parable of the Sheep and Goats Matthew 25:31-46 This parable is a part of the Olivet Discourse and it concerns Jesus' return to glory to set up His kingdom at the beginning of the 1000 year millennium. All those at that time will be brought before the Lord and He will separate them. The sheep on Jesus' right hand are blessed by God the Father and given an inheritance. The goats on Jesus' left are cursed and will experience hell-fire. The parable teaches that salvation is by faith through the grace of God and not by our good works. The good works mentioned are not the cause of salvation but the effect of salvation. The core message is that God's people will love others. Good works will result from our relationship to the Shepherd. Followers of Christ will treat other with kindness. The goats can perform acts of kindness but their hearts are not right with God.

  5. It shouldn't be. Opinions come and go with the wind. Burn up like dry grass on a hot day and they're gone. The followers of Jesus are not to follow any other voice, only JESUS THE SHEPHERD. There are dozens of posted posts that are heresies today on the forum, maybe hundreds over a few days. Those are "opinions" NOT to be listened to, but solely warned , warned strictly, against. This includes every false gospel (which are not flagged to know for visitors: so visitors beware, be in prayer constantly) ...

  13. Yes I believe so, if they truly believe that Christ died on the cross to redeem us of our sins and was raised from the grave and is alive and seated on the right hand of our Father God. Only God knows for sure the hearts of every person.Catholic or non Catholic. Certainly Catholics are taught about Christ Jesus and why He came and died for us. The Catholics do believe the basics of redemption through the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, just the ad-ons are the problem, but those come from the added-on twisting add-on from the higher ups hierarchy of the church and not from the message of who Christ is that is correctly taught despite the add-ons. The confusion comes along if the people in the congregation begin to embrace Mary or the saints more so than Christ Jesus.

As so often happens on open forums , open to the world, whenever a lot of people bring the teachings of another group to post them, instead of seeking the Truth ,instead of seeking Yahweh's Kingdom, instead of abiding in Jesus, instead of the teachings of the GOSPEL OF JESUS, OF SALVATION, there can only be confusion and more people led astray. To find the TRUTH, seek YAHWEH and HIS KINGDOM. Read the BIBLE , not forums, if you don't want to be further confused. Testing everything, read the worthychristianlibrary.com, where there is Scriptural lessons, truth without confusion, without arguing and without bickering and without heresy like you every day find on forums.... 19. Nice post! I'll add 4 points here. 1. commenting on "inherit" as used elsewhere in the NT. 2. commenting on "neighbors". 3. commenting on Samaritan history. and 4. a retelling of the parable in a way meant to help Christians understand how some of Jesus' audience might have emotionally reacted. 1. With regard to inherit (κληρονομέω), it seems to be used in both its literal sense (inheriting an inheritance) and a less literal sense (receiving something). It occurs (in verb form) in the following verses in the NT: Matt 5:5, 19:29, 25:34, Mark 10:17, Luke 10:25, 18:18, I Cor 6:9-10, 15:50, Gal 4:30, 5:21, Heb 1:4, 1:14, 6:12,12:17, I Pet 3:9, Rev 21:7. I've included those verses at the bottom of this post in a small font face. 2. I don't have the references handy and my memory is hazy on the details so take this point with a grain of salt. Many years ago, I read the Mishnah. It is basically the written form of the oral tradition of the law of Moses. As I recall, there was often the sense that a good Jew would not associate with unclean people. As I recall, there were a whole set of rules and principles for guiding one's associations with those who were either outsiders or did not keep the law. The question about "who is my neighbor" does to some extent reflect this question about who they were supposed to associate with and how to maintain ritual purity while doing so. This is not too much unlike our own "do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" proof text for not forming close ties with the wrong crowd. As far as I can tell, to the Jews of that time, the term "neighbor" did not merely mean casual acquaintance, person living next door, or work colleague, it also seemed to include a deeper relationship of that person being a member in good standing with the community and part of the Jewish ritual life and observing rules about clean and unclean things. 3. It's interesting that the Samaritans were the descendants of those specifically mentioned in the OT as largely being under God's curse. Recall that Samaria was the capital of the northern kingdom of Israel (in contrast to Jerusalem being the capital of the southern kingdom of Judah). This was after the civil war and split of the 12 tribes under David's grandson Rehoboam. Samaria was the home of such greats as Ahab and Jezebel. God's final judgement of the northern kingdom was the Assyrians carrying them into captivity. The Assyrian empire treated its conquered subjects by forcibly removing them to some other area that they had just conquered. Probably the idea that it was easier to maintain their empire when their subjects were not left in their home region and were scattered around. The result was that the Assyrians shipped in a lot of non-Jews to Samaria and the northern Kingdom. See II Kings 17 for this entire story. Here is a pertinent excerpt. 29 Nevertheless, each national group made its own gods in the several towns where they settled, and set them up in the shrines the people of Samaria had made at the high places. 30 The people from Babylon made Sukkoth Benoth, those from Kuthah made Nergal, and those from Hamath made Ashima; 31 the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire as sacrifices to Adrammelek and Anammelek, the gods of Sepharvaim. 32 They worshiped the Lord, but they also appointed all sorts of their own people to officiate for them as priests in the shrines at the high places. 33 They worshiped the Lord, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought. 34 To this day they persist in their former practices. They neither worship the Lord nor adhere to the decrees and regulations, the laws and commands that the Lordgave the descendants of Jacob, whom he named Israel. II Kings 17:29-34 NIV Later, after the return from captivity in Babylon, Nehemiah addresses this issue (Neh 13) of marrying foreigners. Also, there was always the issue that God had commanded all sacrifices to be done in the temple at Jerusalem. Those in Samaria never did that. They kept offering sacrifices at unapproved locations. The Jewish dislike of Samaritans in Jesus' time had a long history (which did include God's explicit rejection of the Samaritan practices). It was not completely racial and cultural, but was also rooted in rejection of the Samaritans' original idolatry and sacrificing in unapproved locations. We see some of this where Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman and she brought up the long standing argument if Jerusalem was the only approved place to offer sacrifices or if they could do it there. In other words, she was probably referring to the OT practice of "sacrificing in the high places". 4. At the risk of igniting a firestorm, I once read a version of the parable of the good Samaritan where someone attempted to recreate the same emotional response in Christians that some of the Jews would have had when they heard Jesus tell this story. The priest was replaced with an evangelical. The levite was replaced with a pentecostal. The samaritan was replaced with a militant atheist. Basically, fill in any group that you consider to be unclean spiritually and under God's judgement and that's the effect this story probably had on its Jewish hearers. Jesus was extending the idea of "neighbor" beyond those who were spiritually acceptable to those who were spiritually unacceptable. Here are the verses "inherit" appears in. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matt 5:5 NIV And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[a] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. Matt 19:29 NIV “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. Matt 25:34 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Mark 10:17 NIV On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Luke 10:25 NIV A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Luke 18:18 NIV Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. I Cor 6:9-10 NIV I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. I Cor 15:50 NIV 30 But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.” Gal 4:30 NIV and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God Gal 5:21 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. Heb 1:4 NIV 14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? Heb 1:14 NIV We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Heb 6:12 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done. Heb 12:17 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. I Pet 3:9 NIV 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. Rev 21:7

  20. Hello my dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory! For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies. 2 Corinthians 2:112 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate. When we read this passage, Mar 3:26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. Mar 3:27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman. While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered. But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us! Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound. And then Satan can plunder your house! Let's take a marriage situation. A husband and wife are newly married and they are just getting by. The wife hasn't had a new dress in some time, and while she's out and about -- she stumbles across a dress that is 75% off and a steal! She's in need of some new clothing and thinks to herself -- I should get this while it's soo cheap! Meanwhile, her husband is looking over a mountain of bills and thinking to himself, the only way to get out of this mess is to work "overtime" and starts to figure out how much he needs to work to cover all their bills. When the wife comes home, she's looking fine in her dress and the first thought of her husband -- planted by the enemy -- can you believe that your wife spent money on a dress? Of course, this feeds into his mind and reacts to the thought -- and gets angry at his wife and demands that she take the dress back. So he's ignoring the fact how good she looks in the dress, and ignores how cheap it was -- and allows a foothold to be set! The wife can't believe it -- and let's the emotion burn in her while biting her tongue. A few weeks goes by, and the husband is out and about and sees a fishing rod on sale -- and buys it! The wife sees the new fishing rod -- the enemy then brings back that emotion of what happened a few weeks prior about the dress -- and suddenly she explodes! And now you have the beginnings of how the enemy has taken footholds and then created strongholds -- and for the ultimate purpose of dividing a marriage! Now let's look at Luke and see what lessons we can learn from it. Luk 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. Luk 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: Luk 11:22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. Luk 11:23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. If you notice this, the strong man who's armed -- ready for battle -- ready to face whatever comes his way -- he's living in PEACE! If we recognize the first steps of the enemy's work in our lives -- knowing he's trying to create footholds -- you'll begin to understand why? He can't rob, kill and destroy you -- unless you are FIRST bound up! So we need to be armed with the Word, armed with the knowledge of the enemy's tactics, and be ready to defend what is rightfully ours! We need to take authority over the powers of darkness because that authority was given to us at the cross! Luk 10:18 And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Luk 10:19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Luk 10:20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." So we fight the good fight of faith, standing in His victory and be ready to pounce on every thought that is not of God -- that is being used to BIND US up! Be prepared to battle today -- put on the full armor of God -- and be ready to pounce on every thought that would seek to create a foothold in your life! When you do this, truly you will become a strong man who's possessions are at perfect peace! Your brother in the Lord with much agape love, George

  22. There is no contradiction in Scripture when understood correctly. This fact reveals when we are not understanding correctly. The light that God gives the heathen will often be added to when he accepts truth about God unless he is being mislead by false teaching. My personal observations are that people no longer are being enlightened or receive discernment after they have bought into a lie. This is not referring to you but to others who have crossed my path. Many of these only accept the Scriptures that they like but reject those they don't like. So these people are also likely to accept the objective morality of God's Word through Jesus Christ.

  26. Our salvation is based on what we do with Jesus. If we receive Him as both Savior and Lord of our lives we will be welcomed into His family and His Kingdom. My soul was saved in the 50s. I am still being saved from my sinful nature. My body will be saved at the resurrection. No man is saved by works. Eternal life is a gift. Rom 6:23 NKJV For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Joh 1:12 NKJV But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: Joh 1:13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Rom 10:9 AMP Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom 10:10 For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.

  29. Scripture lesson VS the title: "This is the real battleground of human salvation; this is the Waterloo of every soul; this is the test question of every redeemed life. This was the point where Saul lost his kingdom and Agag lost his life, and where still eternal destinies are lost or won as we learn the lesson or refuse to be led in triumph by our conquering Lord. God had determined that the race of Amalek and the house of Agag should be utterly exterminated. They were not to be spared, but to be destroyed. It was a case of no compromise. There was nothing good in them. The least element of Agagism was destructive, and the whole community, with all their goods and belongings, must be put out of existence, just as the effects of a household where some one had died of some contagious disease must be wholly given to the flames. This is God’s decree against the flesh in us. It cannot be cleansed; it cannot be improved; it cannot be cultivated; it cannot be educated into good ideas and principles. The flesh must be exterminated."

  39. You might need to rethink how you view nations. Nations are first and foremost people, not geography, not dirt, not governments. The nation of Israel may have been scattered but they have never ceased to exist. You really need to grasp that fundamental truth before you start contorting demographics and governments and geography as nations. This might help: These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations; and out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood. Genesis 10:32 According to God, nations are first and foremost, people. Notice the words families, and genealogies, and nations. The nation of Israel (descendants of Jacob) has never ceased to exist, so your assertion that they did not exist is false. They may not have existed as a nation according to your definition of a nation. But according to God's, they have never ceased to exist. Your point is not valid from a scriptural viewpoint.

  45. Hyper "The human mind is the most deceitful of all things. It is incurable. No one can understand how deceitful it is. Jeremiah 17:9 (GOD'S WORD® Translation) Berean He continued: “What comes out of a man, that is what defiles him. For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness. All these evils come from within, and these are what defile a man.” Mark 17:20-23 (Berean Study Bible) Without Jesus, Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, John 3:36a (New Heart English Bible) We Are Sunk but whoever refuses to believe in the Son won't see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." John 3:36b-c (New Heart English Bible) ~ Love, Your Brother Joe

  46. note the portion I quoted... that is where my comment lies The Scripture you quoted doesn't mean what you think it does but is Pauline thoroughness saying even if no Scripture is available the creative work of God Himself is enough for every person brought into existence to know that God 'IS' and is held accountable by that. It is obvious that God 'IS' by what is here! The only thinking module 'evolution' is now so far debunked that anyone holding to it appears so foolish both scientifically and mathematical probabilities through chance evaluated!

  47. This is foolishness it shows a complete disregard for God and His Word... of which many will perish because of Romans 1:21 (KJV) [21] Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
