  1. give it a rest 1sheep. The topic is the storm, not what other users say that you need to worry about. This is only going to lead where you do not want to go.

  2. You know one sheep, if you think that someone is dissing you home, you can note it, ignore it, and move on. There is not need to react with an insult, calling some one stupid. Think of this as a gentle reminder of how we need to tread each other on the forums.

  4. I always appreciate when a kindness is done for me. If you can't do much for some reason, one can always be kind with our words, especially to the hurting and ill. Even on a Christian forum, we can be kind and perhaps that will help someone along the way.

  5. Wow. Some of you have had some really bad church experiences. That has not been the case for me. I am still attending the church I grew up in. I can not think of anything Biblical or Spiritual they have not taught me. They have indepth Sunday School classes that may spend a month going over a topic such as how to pray or how to be a good witness. The mid week Bible study is just the same. Many studies on what is a Christians's place in the world, stuff like that. The pastors are always there for your questions or if you need to talk. They don't even get mad if you disagree with them. They just listen. Sometimes on Sunday mornings it is as if the Holy Spirit takes over the service, and the pastor puts his sermon aside and lets the Spirit move. Sometimes the pastor changes what he was going to preach about because he says he felt the Holy Spirit directing him to preach on something else. So many many times I have walked in on a Sunday morning service and it has been like the sermon preached that day was just for me. Anyway, I feel bad that other churches have failed so many here. But we can't always depend on the church to teach us everything. We ourselves need to read the Bible and get into God's Word. We need to go to God everyday in prayer and have a good communication with God. Churches and people can let you down. But God never dose. ?

  6. Moses interceded for the Hebrews wandering in the wilderness because God was about to destroy them for their unbelief. He had delivered them from the Egyptians, provided food and water for them miraculously, and still they refused to trust God but complained continually against Him. So Moses pleaded on their behalf and God relented. There are only a few places in the Bible where God has "changed His mind"; perhaps God has a plan B. I personally think that God wants most for us to draw close to Him and depend on Him daily. He wants us to interact with Him in a relationship. Eph 6:18 AMP Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).Eph 6:19 And [pray] also for me, that [freedom of] utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news (the Gospel), Many times prayers for others are answered and we don't learn of it till years later if ever. Missionaries tell of such stories of severe illness and being spared, of sudden danger and being rescued. And often someone had awakened in the night and prayed for them on that day and hour. I have experienced this. God does hear us and answer prayer when we pray according to His will.

  7. Rom 6:23 ESV For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. The Jews offered the blood of an innocent cute little lamb as a sacrifice for the sins of the household. Jesus is called the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world, because He was without sin but gave Himself to suffer and die in our place for our sin. His blood is offered for our sin. When you believe that He loves you and suffered for your sake He becomes your Savior. When you in thanksgiving and rejoicing surrender to Him as God and Lord of the universe as well as your own Lord and God, and believe He arose from the dead, then He is your Lord as well. So it is appropriated to your own life by faith. It is trusting in and relying on Jesus Christ's death as payment for your sin. Romans 4. Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness." Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. Rom 4:5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, Rom 4:6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: Rom 4:7 "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; Rom 4:8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin." Rom 4:16 That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, Rom 4:17 as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations"—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. Rom 4:18 In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, "So shall your offspring be." Rom 4:19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah's womb. Rom 4:20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, Rom 4:21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. Rom 4:22 That is why his faith was "counted to him as righteousness." Rom 4:23 But the words "it was counted to him" were not written for his sake alone, Rom 4:24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, Rom 4:25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. God credits our account with righteousness when we believe His word and His promise like Abraham did.

  8. Things do get humorous. An upset after dissing the logic of living where there might be storms? ??? It struck me as odd or funny , because I have spent the last two years visiting and shopping housing at N. C. Beautiful but then I find, well the fish at this lake and that one are not to be eaten or are high in PCB's. Why? Because all the roads around the many areas I looked at were at one time used as a dumping ground by the TVA and Alcoa Aluminum. They evidently used to oil the then dirt roads with it at night to get rid of the used oils from the aluminum smelting and the electrical transformers from the dams. Those oils contained PCBs. Then I learn the lakes are drained in the winter months many feet and people run ATVs around the edges. The lakes get drained to accomodate all the mountain water run off expected from winter months of wet. Seems towns are prone to flooding otherwise. And then the hurricanes came in and affected the countryside all the way to Tennessee. Now, this latest Florida Hurricane might end up adding to the woes of flooded areas of N. C. I do love Murphy and Andrews and much of the area all the way to Ashville, but free of problems from weather and environmental concerns? I don't think so. And yes I do pay taxes, non resident taxes at one state, plus the the federal government. I don't really want to add N.C. to the tax burden, if for no other reason than the rules are rather different for N.C. They seem regressive to me, but that is my impression. And to be blunt, I just don't want the hassle of figuring it all out. Plus in my search for a church and for the lead of the Holy Spirit I just didn't sense any confirmation that I should make such a move. So I will just visit NC most likely. And maybe if I can ever find affordable property at New Hampshire, and if God so leads I'll buy in there. Odds are low on that one, less God helps me and I win Lotto or something. God led me to Florida! I sure didn't want to go from my then pretty nice southern California. But staying at Ca. wasn't God's plan for me. So here I am, I do love it here, heat and all, now after so many years. I was led to have to return to California too for two years. I did the task God had for me, and returned here to the risk of the subtropic, were God has provided safety even in last year's storm that came through. The world is not a safe place anyway. Many are led to go to some pretty strange and dangerous places, Benin, Nigeria, EL Salvador, for example. His leading me to Florida? Wow a piece of cake, eh? In the meantime, I have learned to be of help, and to also receive help, when storms come in and do their thing. Many will need help this week, and in the months to come perhaps; not just at the Florida panhandle, but near all the way inland at Georgia, S.C. and as perhaps as far west as Murphy NC. Certainly part of NC will have needs. So I pray for the helpers, for their safety as they function to help total strangers have comfort in their homes and towns. May many angels be at hand protecting.

  10. In my understanding kindness is one of the main ways we can know real Christians from phony ones. It's so easy to say you are a believer but the true believers are those who obey Jesus. And kindness is one of the things Jesus stressed above all else. Even if we overlook when Jesus was killed, just consider all the times He was accused of being of the devil, and all the times He looked past a person's sins because that person was showing kindness to Him. Again we see what we do, and how we feel, this is what matters to God.

  12. Let me preface this question with the fact that I'm a believer, 100%. I'm just trying to figure out the details. I understand that Jesus Christ conquered death which is the penalty for sin. My question is, how is that transferable to me and my sin and you and your sin? And if he died for everyone's sin once and for all: why is it necessary to believe? If a debt it paid, is paid...right?

  13. Hi all, The storm is passing by here, the center way way to the west of us that are out on the peninsula of Pinellas County Fl. It will soon hit hard though into the panhandle and then evidently remain a severe storm-hurricane all the way up into Georgia and South Carolina. What happens from there I haven't seen mentioned. Will it go into the Atlantic and then away, or up again as a large storm into New York - New England? It is going to be absolutely devastating if it continues at 145MPH into the panhandle along with the 12 foot storm surge. The surge will swing both east and west, having a lesser affect here with only a 2 to 4 foot surge of water, but just north of here my own relatives will likely have water go through their home yet again. I am so thankful the storm is way west of here, even though we are getting storms and have possibility of tornadoes from the outer bands. I am also in prayer for all those not so fortunate today. May all have left the areas of danger. May the many thousands of individuals that are ready to come in and rebuild infrastructure after the storm passes be safe in their travel and heavy work to come. The economic impact will be severe, insurance companies once again will start to bail out of florida I suppose, and cost of living here will be going up. Even stonger building standards will be coming, all that stuff will be affecting us way after the storm is a distant memory. All of which is strong reminder that all we cherish in the way of gathered things of afluence are just a puff away from disappearing without even a remnant left behind. Our security is in our Lord and savior Jesus, today as everyday is a day to share of His sacrifice made for us that we may have eternal life with Him. Praise God for the sacrifice made willing by His Son that we may have security beyond that which we build of sticks stones blocks and paper money.

  14. I’m not a new Christian. I prefer these days to refer to myself as a member of the Body of Christ. I believe Pride is perhaps the original sin. Or the sin that keeps us in bondage. Even without our realization. I suffer from what I think is depression, or should I call it disappointment, or should I call it pride being dismantled? I honestly thought my life would pan out better. Pride? I always considered myself humble, but when I honestly look at my every thing, I think I’m not being humble. I’m ungrateful and prideful. Ohhhh it makes sense now. Throw up your hands and praise our Lord!!!

  18. Yeah, the news coverage thing is an important point. A lot of young people probably don't know this but we didn't used to name tropical storms. We named hurricanes. But there were so few that just to give the weather channel, et-al something to talk about they started naming tropical storms. And here we are. I remember when I lived in Seattle in the late 60's we had some amazing snowstorms, but by the late 90's it seemed like they were simply a thing of the distant past. But then they ramped up again. If one is old enough, one has actually lived through the cycles. The younger people see the changes (e.g. "global warming") and think there is some sort of permanent thing going on here. Technically, they are correct in a way. The sahara used to be forrest, Greenland was called greenland because it was, and Montana and much of the US used to be covered by a glacier. It got warmer, thank God.

  19. ""Jesus doesn't speak to us audibly. "" Really? What New Testament are you reading. ""The way you put it would have Jesus proclaiming salvation by works."" Of course that man in mynickname's testimony is receiving his salvation by works. The law was still alive alive when Christ was alive. Christ was still working within the law. Salvation by Grace/Faith did not begin until after the death and resurrection of Christ. So the only way for that man to gain salvation is by works. It is not up to any of us to judge the validity of mynickname's testimony. He is sharing what Christ has spoken to him. Each of us can believe or disbelieve the message but it is not our place to judge if the message is from Christ. The message is correct because that man lived in the law therefore his only way to salvation was through works. Mynickname, you are surely blessed.

  20. Could be, Davida, I don't know... But, a hundred or two hundred years ago, there was weather. God made it this way, and man knows it will happen. There were storms. There was wars. There was all kinds of tragedy. But no media like we have today, flooding/fanning the news networks about every disaster or tiny mishap throughout the entire world, trickled down and then twitted/texted available at your kitchen table for supper (texting) conversation. Even the 'pleasant Christian forums' become affected...... Hurricanes are a fact of life, and always have been. I've been through one, and close to others, on the Texas coast. Along with millions of others throughout the world. I think it would be neat if the media would show/report much more of the heroic and selfless efforts of the common people, the friends and neighbors, and so many strangers, who put their life on hold to help out, during the storms and after, to show the other side of humanity. I personally am very inspired when I see a TV report of some ole redneck looking dude with his jacked up four wheel drive pickup hauling load after load of hospital bound patients through deep flowing waters to high ground. Very scary. Neighbors, strangers, rolling up their sleeves, and pitching in. Cool......

  21. Believing that we still sin is what keeps one still in bondage. Sin resided in the law and Christ fulfilled all the requirements of the law. The law is dead through Christ and therefore sin is dead too. Sin does not reside in God's Grace and if you choose to accept God's free gift of Grace you cannot sin and once you accept this, then you will be set free from your bondage. And you are exactly where God wants you to be. Have faith in that and that will help you understand his plan for you. You are the adopted child of the King of Kings and heir to all that is his. How awesome is that.

  23. @Kristin It matters not our position in this world. What matters is how much we are living in righteousness before God. Scripture says “whatever your hands finds to do, do with all your heart”. Scripture also says “wherever it is that God called you be satisfied with that slave or free, if you can become free use that for it is better for the slave is the Lords free man and the free man the Lords slave” what matters is living in obedience in what the Spirit of Christ in you is telling you at any givin moment of time. It may seem life is passing you by but if you are Christ’s that is a impossibility for you are Christ’s and “He will prefect that which concerns you”. So keep your eyes on Christ look not to this outward world or to your opinion of yourself but only to Christ and wherever you find yourself you will find the joy of the Lord and all outward circumstances will mean nothing. Paul missed people also and prayed that the Lord would direct there hearts together. I too spend a long time away from my loved ones. But this is what the Lord has me doing at the present time so with all my heart I do what’s before me. I use this time to feed my personal relationship with Christ that I might be conformed to Him in all things. That He would be written in my heart that He might be read by all man I come across in my daily walk. Blessings and prayers for you. ? Much love in Christ, Not me

Perhaps that will help turn your disappointment around? I imagine you are seeing alot of our country as a trucker....that must be nice. I am a caregiver to my 88 year old, homebound mom....so that keeps me basically homebound, too. Plus I am a senior citizen so not able to walk very far due to a health issue currently. No children, never married. But still going on with the Lord's help so that is a wonderful thing. Don't give up, think of the little things that are blessings.

  30. Some Christians are opposed to anything related to the Roman Catholic church. Hence, they reject any resource that has any RCC associations as not being Christian. Some Christians believe that the only way God speaks to Christians today is through the Bible. Hence, they believe any type of spiritual listening is opening oneself up to occult influences. Not all Christians agree with these two viewpoints.

  32. 1Jo 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1Jo 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 1Jo 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world 2Jo 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. The key is in the passage you quoted. With God all things are possible. Your insight does not reveal that the ruler saw Jesus to be any more than a rabbi or teacher. Unless your revelation said that he acknowledged Jesus as God in human flesh, I very much doubt its source. When Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ he was told that the Father had revealed it to him. Even then Peter did not change in nature until the Holy Spirit had been poured out in Acts 2. Then he changed from a wimp to a powerhouse. So I doubt if the ruler could have changed without the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Your revelation did not give glory to God or acknowledge Jesus as the Christ. It sounds more like self to me, or deception. We must always test our revelations, and they should be tested by congregation, or us in this case.

  34. Hi and ha, I find N.C. too risky for me to go live at by personal choice- less God directs me to go. I keep looking at it, but between floods, storms, bad weather, toxic waste from as far back as the 1930's from Alcoa spreading PCB's, polluted waters of the lakes and the fish being contaminated, and the regressive State Income tax system I'd rather stick my finger in a live light bulb socket- Yet if God does want me to go to Bear Paw Resorts at Murphy and buy that home I looked at there, then okay, if He wants me to buy at Lake Nantahala okay too. If he wants me to buy at Ashville He had better provide me a few more resources. In the meantime, I'll continue to cherish the church and the town He has led me, to do my own life's service and battle, sitting on the suncoast sailing, kayaking, playing amongst the alligators, while serving a church there. Seriously, I find I go were God leads me. I don't often know where that is until I look back and see the why of it. It is where I am led, not where I would naturally choose. Hey, if I could choose the world would be 1959 forever, and I would be at San Diego CA., but the world is not forever it changes and it is all going to burn anyway. Might as well live where God leads, and not where I choose of my own accord, then ask if there are some fun adventures to be had along the way. As for today there are many I guess in need of help, many providing it and I pray for the safety of those in need. Plus I pray for the wonderful helpers of those in need, many of whom just barely finished returning from helping up at North Carolina.

  40. God is sovereign. If we're in a situation its because He is using for His purposes in our life - whether we like it, agree with it, or not. I spent many years with no car in an area that requires one if you want a decent paying job. I survived by riding the bus and working nights so I could get to work and back. Did lots of over time too because it didn't pay enough, but it was all that was available. The Lord used some difficult circumstances to show me a few things in the process. Part of that is if you can't find fellowship at a given church on Sunday or during the week (if schedule allows) then you probably need to pray and start looking at other churches. While that was going on a brother recommended getting involved in some volunteer work even if it wasn't church related, so I gave it a try. I discovered there are lots of potential "mission fields" out the local area. I started with some nearby recovery meetings (because I'm a drug addict that Jesus cleaned up) and found some other believers at several. We made connections with others and found a few places we could all get to on the bus/mountain bike. We made our own community. There's also time at the local rescue mission. I've had people tell me the only reason they'll listen to me talk about Christ is because they see at meetings or the mission on a regular basis. That was a bit of a shock at first, until I realized they were looking for something real - because you get lied to a lot on the street. Someone who's real will stick out like a sore thumb (in a good way.) This stuff didn't happen overnight. It took years of showing up, but God has His own schedule.

  47. hello i am wondering if we should ask George to get in touch with her to see how she is getting on? obviously George may not be able to share with us the outcome due to privacy reasons... but it would be good just to know.....

  48. Nothing personal, but I did read the article don't care what the article states or what US archaeologist and Harvard University professor Lawrence E. Stager writes. I believe God's Word and it states that there were giants in the land. Genesis 6:4, There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. Numbers 13:33, And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. That's good enough for me. And the bones they have found world wide also proves this.
