I've wondered if it was God's way of getting their attention that it was time to part ways and have separate ministries. Scripture fairly clearly lays out Paul's main calling as being preaching the gospel through the Roman empire and not mostly sticking around Antioch as an elder. In contrast, Barnabas seems to have had much more of a pastoral and leadership type of ministry, perhaps more suited as primarily being a pastor in Antioch. Most of Barnabas' actions recorded in Acts seemed based around building up and encouraging individuals (including Paul) and the church rather than in outreach. Paul spend quite a bit of time in Barnabas' sphere of influence and encouragement. Perhaps, this was now the time God was pushing Paul to move out of his comfort zone and strike out without the support of Barnabas.3 points

As one light has said, they quarreled over taking John Mark again, Paul didn't want him, while Barnabas thought he had potental and took him on a different trip. Later in 2tim4:11 Paul is asking for Mark.3 points

First, this is found in Acts 15:37-40, and the reason why is stated in verse 38 - John called Mark left them and returned to Jerusalem instead of continuing in the work they had to do. I cannot find why Mark decided to leave them and return to Jerusalem, but it did not set well with Saul, as we read in the verses you selected. Acts 15:38 But Paul insisted that they should not take with them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work. Acts 13:13 Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.3 points

Lately, God has been showing me what a wonderful Creator He is. The recent passing of laws regarding unborn babies has been an eye opener for me. It has given me a whole new appreciation for human life...including the children I gave birth to. It has been an 'aha moment' for me. I have been astounded by looking at images of ultrasounds that are in high definition these days. "I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are your works; and that my soul knows right well." (Psalm 139:14) Aha moments are defined as: a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension. Are there any that you would like to share?2 points

Then ask questions of the minister, remind them of what Jesus said about worshipping in 'spirit and in truth'. Did Jesus promise fine homes and good clothes to those who followed him, or did he say that foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of God has nowhere to lay his head. Are they grater ten their master?2 points

The problem that rose up between Barnabas and Paul is outlined in Acts 15:36-39. Paul wanted for him and Barnabas to revisit the cities where new believers were. That was fine with Barnabas and Barnabas wanted to take John Mark. Paul was adamant that John Mark NOT go because John Mark had "deserted them" back in Pamphylia. I think [just my opinion] that Barnabas was stubborn about wanting to take John Mark for two reasons: John Mark and Barnabas were cousins. [I was just reading this this morning in Colossians 4 - what a timely coincidence!!] Perhaps blood is thicker than water. And I just looked up some initial verses where Barnabas is introduced and I completely had forgotten that Barnabas was just a nickname. His real name was Joseph. He was called "Barnabas" by one of the Apostles and the name means "Son of encouragement". Acts 4:36. Perhaps Joseph "Barnabas" wanted to encourage his cousin, John Mark, to get back into the work of evangelizing the Gentiles. So you have Paul viewing John Mark as a defeated deserter. And you have Barnabas viewing John Mark as a defeated, but future leader. This is what they argued over. So, Barnabas take John Mark - and it's worth noting that he takes him right back to the same place where he quit. I find that sermon worthy! And Paul takes up Silas. Both teams are used by God. And in future references, Paul speaks highly John Mark. He tells the church of Colosse to welcome John Mark and in 2 Timothy he tells Timothy to bring Mark with him as Mark is "useful" to him. This is towards the end of Paul's life. One can only assume - a making up between them all happened.2 points

Such bold statements require chapter and verse, otherwise it is just your opinion .... “He made you alive together with him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses” is my verse.Paul’s Gospel of Grace found in 1 Cor15:1-4 makes no mention of repentance as far as Salvation is concerned .If one has received a new heart after believing the Gospel, repentance,or sorrow and regret for daily sins will occur naturally. It did not get you saved and it does not keep you saved. To believe otherwise is to add to the Gospel and make the Cross of Christ of no benefit to you.Dangerous ground.2 points

Yes. It is GOOD (and BEST) when the LIGHT (JESUS) comes, to admit (confess) and change (repent) their doctrine (and other stuff), no matter how rare it is to do so. It is required. Remember the Reformation ? Restored salvation by faith in Jesus to the people who had been in darkness for around 1200 years, imprisoned by false teachers, false doctrines, false practices, and a false Jesus and a false gospel. Who can use proof of Jesus' resurrection? Most of us are believers in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, aren't we? Do we need proof of his resurrection, the core of our Christian faith? We hope not but it sure couldn't hurt to have our faith confirmed by facts so now and then. Real proof of the essence of our faith is problematic, so I tend to be happy with strong indications that we are right with what constitutes the core of our living. Call it weakness of my faith if you like. But I'm sure I don't alone in this. We look at the good in people and the beauty in nature. But sometimes there is something stronger... I am reading the works of the late Pinchas Lapide, a Jewish theologist and diplomat who was a follower of Jesus Christ. He focused on Jesus' Jewish roots and tries to bridge the gap between Christianity and the Jewish tradition. The first book I read is The Resurrection of Jesus: A Jewish Perspective. After an analysis of raising from the dead in Jewish tradition Lapide turns to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He describes the fears of Jesus' followers after his earthly death. Their master had undergone the extremely cruel fate of Jewish rebels. And they were afraid to undergo the same fate. Therefore they fled and went into hiding. Lapide asks how it is possible that these simple frightened and disappointed would-be followers formed the basis of a world religion against all odds and threats. "The apostles' answer is short and simple: Jesus' resurrection from the dead." Alleluia, Lord!1 point

How Will the Holy Spirit Work during the Millennium? The millennial reign of Christ will last for one thousand years. It will occur after His second coming. During this time peace will rule. How will the Holy Spirit function during this period? Will there still be the need for people to be converted? Those who survived the Great Tribulation and have not believed in Him will be judged by Christ at His second coming before the Millennium begins. When the Millennium begins, all those who enter into it will be believers. Both Jews and Gentiles who have survived the Great Tribulation with faith in Christ will enter this period. Judgment On Gentiles Jesus talked about the this judgment of the unbelieving Gentiles. When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.' . . . Then He will also say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:31-34,41). Judgment Of The Jews The prophet Zechariah spoke of the judgment of the Jews: And it shall come to pass in all the land, says the Lord, That two thirds in it shall be cut off and die, but one third shall be left in it. I will bring the one third through the fire, will refine them as silver is refined, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon My name and I will answer them. I will say, This is My people; And each will say, The Lord is my God! (Zechariah 13:8,9). Those that survive these two judgments will enter the millennial period. Therefore all those who begin the Millennium are believers. Children Will Be Born However, children will be born during this period, and each of them will need to make a personal decision toward Christ. The Holy Spirit will be working in their lives to bring them into a relationship with God. Yet, despite the Holy Spirit's work, there will be those who reject Christ: Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them (Revelation 20:7-9). Therefore, we see the need for the Holy Spirit to work during the Millennium in the lives of unbelievers. Don Stewart1 point

Shalom brothers & sisters, I have a question which I don't believe has an answer in scripture. However, I'm hoping someone might have an insight or read something in a non-canonical letter etc. John Mark, as mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles, is thought to be the same Mark who wrote the Gospel. If that's the case, we can assume God was with him. His associate, Barnabas, was also a good man blessed with the Spirit. Now, there is a separation between Paul and Barnabas who must have been close friends, as Barnabas was the one who convinced the Apostles to accept Paul! The separation was over John Mark (see Acts 14:37-40). This separation is described as be one of "sharp contention". We don't hear from Barnabas or John Mark after this and the narrative then focuses on Paul. You could argue that Luke wrote it like this to continue the story on Paul, which was his intention. But you could also argue that the Spirit wanted to preserve Paul's story for future generations. My question is, what do you think caused the contention? Do you think it was from the Spirit to spread them out? Or was it from men? From Paul's letters, he doesn't seem to be the one to shun a brother unless that brother had turned dramatically from the faith. But this was John Mark and Barnabas stood in his corner... Any thoughts, insights, or non-canonical writings on the matter welcome. Love & Shalom1 point

@angels4u I'm glad you posted this one! This parable has always meant a lot to me. It conveys how a person should be willing to part with everything they own because of the awesome treasure of Jesus, the “exquisite pearl of infinite price.” Anything the world offers is mere baubles/trinkets compared to the true Gem HE is. Nothing between the soul and the Savior, as the hymn puts it.1 point

Shalom turtle, For me an "Aha/wow" moment came to me when considering what Paul wrote in Romans about why the Torah was brought into the world: To increase transgressions so that mercy could abound even more. I got to mediating on this matter... So, the more sins we make, the more we are forgiven - but why? Well, so the Father can show his mercy to us... But why would he want to show us his mercy in abundance? Maybe to show how much love he has to give us. Then it hit me... Maybe this is the same reason that we exist! Imagine the Father, The Son and The Spirit together before the world began. All of them unified in love and abundant in love but with no subjects to pour their immense love into. Our Father may have been craving to show his great, great love with uncountable multitudes, numerous as the stars He set in place. That love would be shown to be even greater if those subjects didn't deserve it. It would be even greater still if he would give His Son to justify those subjects freely. What other motive would there be, but love. Great, great love. So, should we sin more so that his love can be shown even greater still? No. But by serving him in body and spirit we are giving him our love back in thanksgiving for His. As little as it is in comparison to His love, I'm sure he treasures it, just like how amazingly the Prodigal Son's father reacts. PRAISE YAHWEH FOREVER AND EVER! Love & Shalom1 point

Hi all, Having attended a four and a half hour short church membership class yesterday afternoon I am struck by the enthusiasm of the sixty some potential new members of a middling sized local body of Christ Jesus that attended. Amongst all the needed information as to what the local body is was a history of this local body of Christ Jesus. Seems a local town of many older people wanted to gain some younger individuals into it's gatherings and membership. It worked harder at its youth ministry, gained younger families, and was so successful at it that it became a church problem to the older crowd, what with the activity of the young, driving too fast in the parking lot, making noise etc. Finally the youth pastor was asked by the other elders to go start a new local church, taking the younger families with him. And so, this church whose class I attended was formed, and it grew and it has planted more local church bodies plus some distant ones too. Kind of funny that this church of the younger families has become an attraction to me an old geezer, but I am convicted that it is where I need to be it is to be my new post as a soldier in the army of my Lord Jesus. And I have already started to get acquianted with its purpose policies and a few of its people and its ministries missions and outreach. My own bride my sweet Texas peach is excited and convicted too! We spent time in prayer last night for our own neighborhood, our family, our church body and community like never before. There is a new lifting within us a pushing of us out of the nest of old comforts. Don't know how we will best fit in, but we are pursuing the lead God has set before us to follow. To me the exciting to part is not us, but that there were some sixty others there also. More than enough to go out and plant yet another local body rather than just gathering and listening to the message of one favored pastor/elder and slowly over time dying in our comforts. Seems many are being led to outreach even as they are gathered inward. So I see that discomfort, tension, even angst, is used by God to cause a continuing dispersion amongst the members of the body of Christ Jesus, causing many to go about the business of sharing the gospel of Jesus by joining in planting new churches, all by the will of God for His own. It has taken some time, but God has led us to the place he will have us to serve- least for a time till He finds us a little too comfortable and lacking in our further sanctification process. And as we do participate we also do have to look hard at where we have thought to go. Are our own plans the plans of God for us or not? That little tension seems the opportunity to be of new bond-servant service to God. I praise God for the tension that tightens the bonds. This is fun! It is really fun stuff, this continuing dispersion. May God's mercy and Grace abound in your life's adventure, neighbor1 point

Hi JoeCanada, The reason we, the Body of Christ will not be here in the tribulation, is that we are the first purpose of God to be complete. When the Body is mature (Eph. 4: 13) then Christ will come and take us to His own throne. (Rev. 3: 21) This is in the third heaven and where we will rule and reign with Christ. There we will judge the world system & those apart of it, plus fallen angels. (1 Cor. 6: 2 & 3) God`s purposes are all about bringing every rulership in every realm under Christ. (Eph. 1: 9 & 10) We, the Body of Christ will be the first rulership under Christ in the third heaven. From there all other rulerships will be dealt with. And those God has prepared to rule in other realm will eventually do so. Israel is another one of those groups and they will rule the nations of the earth during the millennium. The tribulation is their preparation time, to finish the chastisement of 490 years, (in sections). Marilyn.1 point

The problem with some of these political debates is that it takes our focus off the person and work of Jesus on the cross. The first obligation of the church is to take care of the widows and orphans in its own congregation, then in neighboring churches and ministries and in oversees missions. It is not the responsibility of the government. It may be a part of our personal outreach.1 point

God wants us to obey the laws of the government. The only exception is when a law of the government forces us to disobey a command of God Acts 5:29. Illegal immigration is a sin. If they are here legally and obeying the laws if the United States that is another controversial issue. It seems ok to me.1 point
-
Most of us arnt against helping immigrants. In fact im all for it. I just dont believe in illegal immigration, as it doesn't help anyone except those in control. Illegal immigrants come in, they dont pay taxes, so theres no money helping to pay for services they use such as roads. The ones that work, do so under the table for half the cost of American workers, stealing jobs. The ones that dont are often on welfare which puts more burden on our government and takes it from American citizens that actually need it. They are dependent on the government, or whatever employers will hire them which means while their quality of life is better then where they came from, theyre effectively slaves, controlled by either the crooked government or crooked employers. Cartels often smuggle in drugs, sex slaves and the like in with the refugees. So yes i feel the wall needs to go up. But i also feel we need to make it easier to come across legally. A lot easier. If we let them come across legally we can more effectively help them. As legal citizens they can come and go places without fear of deportation. They can work the same jobs we all do, for far better pay. They will pay taxes which would help pay for stuff like roads. Wouldn't be dependent on crooked employers and the government. Would also allow us to filter out the drug mules easier and perhaps even rescue some of the women in the sex trade. Anything to make it harder for human traffickers is a good thing if you ask me. Conservatives arnt against helping refugees. Wed love to help them. But theres a difference between "helping" someone and helping someone effectively.1 point

Hi Larry, I am solidly on the post trib side. The pre trib version requires multiple "second" comings. Mid trib has all the same problems, just pushed back a few years.. As far as the preterist "spiritual" rapture is concerned, it also fails.IMO. I have asked preterists to produce 1 bible prophecy that was fulfilled "spiritually" (non literal). There are spiritual meanings, but literal fulfillments, the very definition of prophecy.1 point

After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, After these things I saw, and behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of every nation and of [all] tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, arrayed in white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 and they cry with a great voice, saying, Salvation unto our God who sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb. 11 And all the angels were standing round about the throne, and [about] the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, 12 saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, [be] unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. 13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, These that are arrayed in white robes, who are they, and whence came they? 14 And I say unto him, My lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they that come of the great tribulation, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. There will be a big revival during the Tribulation but those new born again Christians will be persecuted and killed and are standing around the throne of God , today is the day of Salvation . God is still saving people and in countries like Iran is there is revival right now!1 point

I believe when you consider numbers, there will be a revival of sorts, as the Holy Spirit prepares the elect for the approaching day. As far as the country as a whole, I would say no in regards to the majority. It is pretty clear that morality is being tossed to the side at an alarming rate, even amongst people that most would describe as "good".1 point
-
Hi shortangel, I believe that each major revival brought in a better understanding, (by the Holy Spirit) of some aspect of God`s truth. Obviously there was the false in there as well, for people go to excess. As to another revival, I believe that there will be a quick work by the Holy Spirit across the Body, in the believers lives, but NOT in man`s religious organisations. Marilyn.1 point

I believe we are all on the same page. I don't think any of us are happy and dancing during trials. Jesus prayed that we would have His joy a few hours before being arrested and right before that He prayed "if there be any other way." But for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross. "His joy", I'm thinking, isn't singing and dancing with smiles and happiness. It can include that but more along the lines of faith in "all things work 'together' for the better" and that He has an expected end for us all.1 point

I’m not as confident in my exegesis of this passage as you are. Here are my concerns: 1. When does this apply? It seems to indicate the second half of Daniels week immediately after the abomination of desolation. And yes, the AC has been given power for 42 months, so this fits. 2. Who are the SAINTS? Saints can be Jews, Christians, (set apart holy ones), or both. Plus I imagine Saints can also refer to TRIBULATION SAINTS (not church) and even the 144,000 Jews. In other words, I’m not as convinced as you are that this implies the CHURCH has to be present here on earth when the AC does his thing. 3. It says the AC shall OVERCOME these Saints. Hmmmm, doesn’t Matt 16:18 say, “and the gates of hell shall not overpower (OVERCOME) it (the church).” So which is it? Jesus says Church won’t be overcome yet Rev 13 says the Saints will be overcome. Are they talking about the same people? You seem to think yes; I’m not there. Spock1 point

Sorry, folks, I am just not as spiritual as Peter James and Paul, and many of you. I don't rejoice when trials come. Yes there is rejoicing and worship in the midst of them because my God is worthy. But I still dread them and resist them. They are exhausting and often overwhelming. I know God loves me and will use them for my good. He will use me to comfort others going through the same afflictions. Counting it all joy is just not where I am at. Knowing that God does all things well and is doing what is best is somewhat comforting. He is a kind and merciful God. He walks with me through them and comforts me, but I don't enjoy physical pain or emotional pain and loss. It is called suffering for a reason.1 point

Too many churches are not saying a word of what is to come, the Bible is warning about this, many shall fall from the truth and follow false doctrines, which is happening already in many churches. 1. The Return of the Lord …15By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. 17After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.… 2.Signs of the End of the Age 4Jesus answered, “See to it that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. Witnessing to All Nations 9Then they will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations on account of My name. 10At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another, 11and many false prophets will arise and mislead many.… Revelation 13:16–17 16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. Matthew 24:24 24 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. ( New World religion) Revelation 13:3 3 One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast.1 point

I've not read of Don Stewart before but this much of what is posted is true and is all very simple and straightforward. Beware of any twisted doctrines that don't agree with Scripture. Blessed and holy...priests of God and of Christ...the indwelling Holy Spirit has been given to these saints, those who accept and heed sound doctrine..and He will not be taken from them. Rev 20:5-6 (5) But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. (6) Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.1 point
