  2. These days most churches have websites. Have a look - they will probably include some photos of the main service, so you'll be able to see how most people are dressed. One reason for belonging to a church is that you learn to rub along with people who irritate you in one way or another - just as they have to rub along with you. So what if you can't sing? That's probably true of half the people in an average congregation. But when everyone is singing together, those who can't sing get carried along by those who can. You won't be expected to do any solos! You probably could "just" do Bible study, but you'd only be getting half the experience. How do you define a "good" church? Does it really have to be "good", or would "OK" do? All churches have strengths and weaknesses, so it really depends on what aspects are most important to you. Again, research the websites to narrow down your choice. But do go somewhere! Even if you just sneak in and sit in the back row. I'm not a particularly social person myself, but that makes it all the more important to join a church, rather than avoiding it.

  3. no argument here. but I don't see how understanding clear Biblical teaching introduces any complexity about Jew and Gentile today. It's clear Hades was the place of the dead til His blood was finally shed. Understanding that is nothing more in my mind than clear explanation of the power and necessity of His blood. Now that the blood is shed Jew and Gentile are "one" in Him. That neither removes the "natural distinctives" of either one, nor does it nullify or transfer the promises made to "natural" Israel and those who actually carry Abraham's DNA. The "promise" still has two expressions, one promised to a natural line "as the sand of the seashore" and another promised to spiritual sons "as the stars of the sky". If there is any distinction it lies in the fact those who are of the literal, natural genetic descent from Abraham get to participate in both sides of the promise. No man has ever been saved apart from faith (a gift in itself) in the finished work of the Cross. And a Jew who rejects that today will lose out on BOTH sides of the promise. Both his natural inheritance and his spiritual one. As a gentile believer I have no right to expect a family plot of ground located in the physical nation - geography of Israel... those "promises" were not made to me. But they're still in full effect for "Israel" and ALL God's promises to Abraham will be fulfilled surely and completely...and eternally. I am not in any way slighted by understanding I'm not included in ALL of those...those that pertain to this three-dimensional realm. It's all gotten very confused by this horrific confusion introduced by "replacement theology" and conversely by "Jewish exceptionalism". On the one hand it has His people calling Him a liar by teaching His promises to Abraham somehow got transferred to the "Church" and Israel was rejected. And on the other a legitimate "Hebrew Roots" movement intended by Him to bring gentile saints into deeper understanding of the very Jewish nature of the Church and it's very Jewish worldview it's founded on. But what satan cannot prevent he will try to push to extremes...sending in his false "apostles" to push a works based salvation .."Judaizers" trying to drag believers back into bondage to a Law He fulfilled. The Truth is between the two extremes.

  4. i guess I just never saw any need for complex distinctions......I can't see any exist or reason for them to. The coherent, self consistent message of the gospel just doesn't require any such complexity.

  6. Yep!!! Paul said: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." Rom 1:16, 17 Co-joined with: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Zech 4:6

  7. No, it's just the explanation you prefer. No, there is no scripture that says they will roam the earth; the allusion is they are in Israel, or Jerusalem, exclusively. Of course not, creating divisions in the body allows for just about any interpretation.

  8. This is an important aspect of Revelation to understand. If all of the time frames mentioned are forced to run consecutively then we'd have this: 5 months - Rev 9:5 42 months - Rev 11:2 1260 days - Rev 11:3 1260 days - Rev 12:6 a time and times and half a time - Rev 12:14 42 months - Rev 13:5 Obviously, some if not all of the above time frames are taking place at the same time. The challenge is to find clues as to how they should be arranged. And outside of Revelation, we have: a time, times, and half a time - Daniel 7:27 a time, times, and half a time, 1290 days, 1335 days - Daniel 12:7, 11-12 which are also viewed, almost unanimously, as end time prophecies. Small wonder that there are so many views on how things will come to pass. One thing for sure is that the sequencing and chronology of end time events will come to pass according to the will of God regardless of how we personally perceive that things will happen. We are exhorted numerous times to be ready and alert for those days . . . for a reason.

  9. I've come to realize that attending a church would do me much more good than remaining as I am currently. I must also admit to still being really apprehensive about it; i'm not too fond of people, and the idea of it all just seems awkward to me. So, i'm wondering if you all might offer advice as far as finding the right church goes. We have lots of churches here in town, and i'm really unsure where to even begin. I also have some questions. How do you find out whether it is a formal or informal church? I'd rather not look goofy by showing up in a shirt and tie while everyone else is wearing Hawaiian shirts or something. Does a guy have to sing? I get worship, sure, but i'm not good at singing and I don't enjoy it. I think i'd rather spare God and everyone else such shrill dissonance. Could a guy just do "bible study"? I'd honestly rather just read the bible and discuss it. How do you know whether or not it is a good church?

  10. "And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come." --Luke 19:11-13 (To read it in full, it goes through verse 27)

  11. Revelation 13:7 This verse deals with the martyrs who are on the earth. They will die for their belief in Christ and will become tribulation saints. Revelation 20:4 You are adding your own words to Scripture. I don't see the word "Church" anywhere in the passage. The Church was raptured before the 7 year tribulation started. Only the martyrs remain on earth.

  12. As For Me... Joshua 24:15 "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." The last part of Joshua 24:15 is a well known phrase that is found framed and mounted upon walls of Christian homes around the world. If you are the head of your household you can state that you and those who reside within your home will follow the Lord and serve him. But in truth, many families are not united in faith and are not united in purpose and not all follow the same path. My children are grown and each must follow the path that is set before them, but we did raise our children to believe in the Lord God and the Lord Jesus and to obey them and to serve them. In our world today we often hear people who claim to speak for the majority. Some of the values that we see on display and the opinions that we hear by some who say that they represent the majority of a particular segment of the population does not always appear to be truly representative of that majority. I find that I am rarely in a position to speak for others with total assurance that my words are reflective of their hearts and minds. I come to the conclusion that I can always honesty say, "as for me." I can speak of my values, my convictions, my beliefs, and my faith with the fullness of assurance, but it is difficult to speak for others unless you truly know their heart. I know the heart of my wife, and I can speak with assurance about many things, for we have shared values, convictions, belief and faith. It is good to know the hearts and minds of others, and it is a blessing to be close enough to others to know what they believe, but to speak with assurance that the majority feel a certain way is not an easy task. The Lord, however, can speak with assurance for he knows our hearts and minds and he knows our every thought, word and action. He can speak for you for he knows you. I am a minister and I preach from the Word of God, but for me to speak for the Lord God and his beloved Son I must know their heart and mind, and this is revealed in their Holy Word and I seek to understand and know their hearts. As for me... I will serve the Lord and I pray that I serve them well.

  16. Shalom my brother, It's enjoyable conversing with you as always... Well the way I see it is that there are two basic types of detractors. 1. Those who defend their own beliefs and/or disparage yours for the sake of stability. These people, who are concerned with the existential crisis that comes with accepting belief in God, are not mockers. They might say things in mockery or laugh at our answers. However, if they respond with reasonable and challenging questions (even in jest) - excellent! Such people should be engaged. Ultimately, they are interested to learn. 2. Those who defend their own beliefs and/or disparage yours for the sake of humour. These people, who are concerned with pleasing others and making them laugh at whatever cost, are mockers. They will be likely to respond rudely, crudely and with implied knowledge on their part. If they take what is sacred and personal to you and trample upon it, which any smart human can notice, I see it as wiser to leave them alone. Not just for their sake (as it gives occasion for them to build up more idle words for judgement!) but for others too, who may be shaken by the mocker's proud boasts. Ultimately, they do not appear interested in learning at all, only using the Christian for comedic fuel. Sometimes silence, love and peace speak louder to these types. Here is my article on mockery in debate if you're utterly bored one day! https://faithandtheword.com/mockery/ That's just me. But it could be that you have a talent to reach the second party also. Absolutely! Our God is a living God and He gives us each wisdom to serve Him in different ways, for different cultures and at different times. It may be where my style fails that yours succeeds, and vice versa. It could be that we may even work together one day, complimenting each other's styles. HalleluYah! To say "no, no, it must be done this way and using these words!" is both close minded and not understanding of the power of God. He doesn't want an army of robots! I'm sure He would have us learn from each other and still keep our own "grooves", to serve Him as one family. Serving in unity but in diverse manners. Praise Yahweh! Love & Shalom

You may not have gone to the link I shared here because I moved it to "Videos, Biblical Topics, Do Gospel Tracts Really Work?" This little 9 minute segment of a man who reached thousands of people through his 40 years of passing out Tracts, is an awesome story of faithful endurance in the work of Christ. Hope you will be able to listen to it and give me your thoughts on it. Gary

  20. I noted her mention of it taking her 3 months to draw this picture of her father. That is because for years now she has drawn all of her artwork with pencils and paint brushes between her teeth. Talk about patience that the Lord has brought into her life! And what a testimony towards her Savior Jesus Christ! Great testimony on Joni's life too in 1979 movie called "Joni" if some here have not seen it. After breaking her neck in a diving accident in 1967, the movie shows how the Lord guided and comforted Joni through her rough time in therapy as she adjusted to life as a quadriplegic. Her testimony continues to reach out to the lost in our generation today including many with disabilities.

  21. I agree with Willa that, on its own it would not explain the gospel. However, it could be used along with a presentation of the atonement of Jesus. The 'Romans Road to Salvation' has been a standard used by many to witness throughout the decades. http://c317808.r8.cf1.rackcdn.com/Romansroad.pdf I think this allegory was geared at those who take lightly the many scriptures about living holy and being prepared. We are to be reading the scriptures with pleasure and obeying them no matter what madness is going on around us (being single minded in this wicked world.) This is what the Well-Behaved Students did. The message I read in the allegory was one of faithfulness to He who went away and admonished us to be true to His Word till He comes back. I was looking at it in light of the parable of Jesus about 'being ready when your Lord returns... I realize we are reading servants as opposed to students in the allegory. But the principle is the same. The smiting of the fellowservants, for example makes me think of this part of the allegory: Bullying now became seriously violent and many students were being chased out of the School because of it. The Seniors classes became depraved "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 24:44-51) Those who would ever think I advocate salvation by works don't know me very well. One of my life verses is Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." However, faith without works is dead, as James 2:14-26 declares. Christians were not intended to remain idle once they are born again. For that is only the beginning of a lifetime of joy in serving Him. If you look at the allegory again you will see that the 'well behaved students' represent Christians who do these works BECAUSE they respect and love the Headmaster. Read of their joy at His return. The allegory supposes they were behaving obediently when He returned because He meant so much to them. Is that not true of Christians? Note how glad they were upon His return. The Well-Behaved Students were delighted to see him and were even cheering his name. The rest of the students were screaming wildly, frantically trying to smarten up their appearance and hide incriminating evidence. The others who didn't care about Him are the lost. It even clarifies that Enid did not BELIEVE in Him. She didn’t believe this Headmaster even existed and now she has to meet him? What would she say? The characters are explained as though the true believers were these who loved and obeyed the Headmaster...as all genuinely converted people would. Here is the summary. Note that ONLY the Well-Behaved students are defined as Christians: Hopefully the message of Enid’s story was clear but, just to be sure, here’s the explanation: The mixed boarding School is our world with each generation of Enid’s family representing a different period in Earth’s history. The Headmaster is God with his Guides and Rules being the Bible. The Teachers represent Christianity in general or Bible-based moral leaders in our society. When someone leaves the School grounds it means they died. The Senior Students are today’s current world powers and thought leaders. The Well-Behaved Students are Christians. The Assembly Hall represents Judgement Day. The Dark Figure is satan. The New Life is life after death and the Real World is the new world to come.

  22. @bropro (And Others!) "Do Gospel Tracts Really Work?" Yes, they absolutely "work." Without thinking at all as a lost man, I would damn God with some regularity. Still recalling the first Christian tract I stumbled onto as a heathen in laundromat billboard years ago. The outside of it said "God's Last Name Is Not" and upon opening the inside said "Damn." On the back, it mentioned a verse on God's judgement and said "Your Judgment Is Coming Soon!" Kinda got my attention. Later a Baptist slipped a few Chick Tracts into my hand that I read. Not much further down the road, I read the Bible cover to cover for the first time. Upon finishing it, I knew it to be no normal Book, and went on to repent of my sins and believed in Jesus Christ who bore them on the cross for me. For those who share the seed of God's Word in this fashion, start your day by prayerfully asking God to use them to His Glory. Some brief thoughts on tracts: Check their content and make sure they are Biblical and have a solid Gospel message. Know your crowd, some are "adult" in content. Others, one could give to any, young or old alike. Some Christians doubt there effectiveness. I've occasionally had some Christians and Non-Christians fuss at me passing them out. I just politely ignore them. Folks who reject them? That's OK, pray for them and move along! Last week, I suppose I passed out about 50 or more Christian tracts to adults or children going about their day as I passed by. I'll generally always use them for follow up after speaking to people about Christ. With a fair amount of the Hispanic community about our area, Spanish tracts are great too. I'll pass them along to them as they do a much better job of speaking for our Lord than I do with my gruff Spanglish. I keep a handful of Chinese and Russian tracts too, as I'll occasionally engage them. Chinese take out? Their surprised when you pass one along in their language! “Let each one of us, if we have done nothing for Christ, begin to do something now. The distribution of tracts is the first thing...When preaching and private talk are not available, you need to have a tract ready. Get good striking tracts, or none at all. But a touching gospel tract may be the seed of eternal life. Therefore, do not go out without your tracts.” C. Spurgeon

  23. The tract by Campus Crusade called The Holy Spirit booklet really showed me that there was something wrong with my Christianity. Not only was I back slidden, but I had never been established in my faith. So I was a church goer. It brought me to the "action group" that discipled me and re established me in the faith, encouraging me to walk in the Spirit as we studied the series "10 Basic Steps".

  24. Hi Gary, Yes, I remember the tracts mentioned, authored and illustrated by Jack T. Chick. There were hundreds of others as well, that were also printed and published. Very strong on evangelism, and not exclusively to the young, they certainly made an impression with a splash of sensationalism. Bless his heart though, Jack felt a calling, and his tracts went into world-wide distribution, and translated into numerous languages. The goal was to get the word out, spreading the gospel and salvation message to all nations. Apparently it did exactly that. God bless! Shalom, David/BeauJangles

  26. @Christine I am thankful that the Lord prompted you to post this interesting topic. It led to my son and I having a discussion about it. I wanted to share his thoughts on it with you. He said maybe it was a letter meant to go beyond Ephesus. So when it says, "to the faithful in Christ Jesus" it would be addressing that second group of Christians (those in places other than Ephesus.) That could explain why it is separated from "to the saints which are at Ephesus" (by the word 'and.')

  28. The biggest part of all the escalation is spiritual and social media is likely the biggest non-spiritual part of it. Some good has come from this development to be sure...but anything that can be used for good can also be used for evil. Not only does the internet provide instant audiences for people who are "not right"...it also provides a means to indoctrinate, negatively influence, and stir up hatred...all without leaving home. Dangerous ideology and horrible lies can be spread in a matter of minutes. One nut job can reach a million people almost instantly now. scary times....

  30. Of course! However, if several things are happening at the same time, those events are concurrent or simultaneous, whatever the circumstance. If 5 parallel paths have staggered beginnings some of the events or circumstances will either occur or exist concurrently; even as the separate events of the 5 parallel paths are successive within each path. Rev is chronological in some respects; seals, trumps, and vials are consecutive, 1-7. It's like a date like March 16th. It's a chronological date but it exists concurrent with the month of March and the year 2019, even as March is chronological and yet exists concurrent within the year, and the year is chronological concurrent in the decade and the century, etc., so is the Revelation. Since this, (wrath) And when I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black like sackcloth of goat hair, and the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth like unripe figs dropping from a tree shaken by a great wind. The sky receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place. Then the kings of the earth, the nobles, the commanders, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and free man, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. And they said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. For the great day of Their wrath has come, and who is able to withstand it?” - Rev 6 And this, (also wrath) And the seventh angel sounded.... And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail. - Rev 11 And this, (Islands and mountains gone; same as 6th seal. Hail and the great earthquake; same as at the 7th trump, which is also the last trump at which we are gathered) And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. - Rev 16 Happen at or near the same time and so the preceding events have a concurrent/successive fulfillment. It all comes to an end at or near the same time. Not to the second, but all ending right before the millennium. Even if all the vials occur after the 7th trump, which is fine with me though I'm not going to get into why or why not; the 6th seal is the sign of the coming of Jesus and the 7th trump is the last trump at which time Jesus tells us we are gathered. This means at the very least all the trumps have sounded by the time of the 6th seal, the 7th in conjunction, and the coming of wrath and the gathering.

  31. You must not have read the research that Dr. Norman Geisler did on the issue. The link for that is posted above. Geisler laid out the criteria both internally and externally regarding the text and determined that the event was historical, literal, and accurate. No mystical / spiritual event. Just like Yeshua's resurrection was a physical one.

There were plenty of folks who were lead to Christ either by tracts directly or indirectly. At one time I had a small collection of that tract in half a dozen languages while in Europe. Paul said it well: one sows and another waters, but its God who gives the increase.

I draw some buildings, but I would make a very bad architect because I am very bad at math. I also like some Renaissance churches in Italy. But I think the Pope and others having these magnificent buildings constructed would be wiser to think of the poor and starving they could feed with the money it cost to make these churches, they could feed the poor, especially in centuries past when there were a lot of poor, hungry people. Maybe idolatry could be avoided?

  36. Shalom, and might I add since it is Friday... Shabbat Shalom. Thankfully, Dr. Norman Geisler did the heavy lifting on this issue. http://normangeisler.com/the-early-fathers-and-the-resurrection-of-the-saints-in-matthew-27/

  37. Others here care, I care, and above all else, Jesus Christ cares! Humbly dear one, suicide is never an option, and the eternal consequences cannot compare to the pain this world has.

  38. Be careful! Mary/Jesus: one is dead, one is alive, one can hear your prayer, one cannot, one died for you, one did not. Careful there!

  39. The devil can give a false sense of security and he can also give a tormenting doubt and really do a number on you. So, what do we do? [1] Do not rely at all on your "feelings" about your assurance. You said you "feel" your salvation is phoney. Rely instead on what you know to be true - a time you can look back on with confidence where you made a decision to trust Christ. [2] Ask yourself if a lack of prayer and Bible reading are contributing to these feelings of doubt. That happens all the time. Christians quit reading the Bible, quit praying, and quit seeking God and all of a sudden they are in a rut of doubt that plagues them. [3] Go to God with this and tell him what's happening in your heart.

  40. I have no biblical proof, but i believe in heaven we will be given full understanding of everything, that the Lord would want us to fully comprehend all things and understand them. As many are with him now, i believe they can know what we are all doing here on earth. But it is not their place to interfere and communicate with us or us with them. In a time perspective, i believe she's too busy praising the Lord to focus on you talking to her. No offense if that sounds negative. But i believe she knows what you're going through, but it wouldnt bother her for there are no tears or problems or bad feelings when we leave this world to be with the Lord. Again, these are just thoughts, not proof.

  42. I am sure i know ALL about your feelings. It's like I'm listening to myself in the mirror just 3 years ago when i was in my early 20s. If you REALLY want to talk about this, I'm very confident i will understand you. Just PM me if you want to talk personally. If not i will just say this. First, you say you dont know who you are. Likely, you arent even being your true self, that people arent seeing the real you. So they probably are not showing you love because they don't know the real you. how could we love God if we didnt even hear that he exists? How would we know of is love if he didnt show it to us? Still, i love you. I don't have to know you personally to love you. God loves everyone whether they have a relationship with him or not. There is a love that isnt based on how good someone is. But it is a choice to love people no matter what. So you are loved at least by the Lord through me, and i am sure others here and elsewhere. you probably just havent spoke with them yet.

  43. You cannot just walk into a doctor surgery and demand an operation especially one as complex as you are talking about here and no doctor would ever agree when you are not fully committed to it Why does your husband want you to be mutilated in this way ? It sounds as if he is the one with the problem not you You need some professional help to ease the depression you are suffering from you are far from worthless nor are you alone If the minister at the "church " your husband attends is agreeing with him then you need to stay far far away from him and his pressure. Please know you are loved and prayed for and no one should be trying to make you do something you are not comfortable doing that is ABUSE

  44. Dear Ella, Thank you for getting back to us, and that you are safe. Know that the Lord heard the cry of this simple prayer here, and trust He will surely answer it. Keep seeking some other means of Christian fellowship, because the two you currently have don't seem to satisfy the needs at present. You do have acceptance in Jesus, and you absolutely have it here. God bless. Shalom, David/BeauJangles

  45. It's nearly impossible to write a timeline with many events occuring that may overlap, precede or ensue after any of a number of events. Parts of Rev are chronological, other parts describe events within the previous chronology, it is not chronological from Chapter 1 to Chapter 22. So chapter 10 may come between trumps but not necessarily before the two witnesses.

  46. Dear Ella, I was in the midst of responding to your posts, and cries of desperation here, and the plug on my PC got slightly dis-lodged. Power down. You've been a member for almost five years, and with little input. I'm trying to understand the fragile situation at present, but with not a lot of info, it's difficult at best. The thing is this: Nothing is worth ending you life for. NOTHING There's need for an intervention in your life right now, and it's a bit limited for an internet ministry, tremendous as it is. Isolated and alone as you might be feeling, do reach out to someone, somewhere. And get back to us, we're praying for you. Shalom, David/BeauJangles

  47. We do not know that for sure. But if those in heaven can see us they would see us with different eyes than we have on earth. They are saints.

  49. The resurrection of the believers is only mentioned in Matthew. This resurrection actually occurred after the resurrection of Jesus. Since Jesus is the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep 1 Cor 15:20.
