  1. Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Heb 10:24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, Heb 10:25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Church is not a place to be entertained. It is a place for us to serve others. You might try helping our in Sunday School with a goal of making it better and more meaningful to them. See where you can be of help around the church. We are there to encourage each other and be a blessing to them.

He has hundreds of videos on line. Street preacher. I tried his style. Its working beautifully. He puts the gospel in a step by step, easy to understand format. Check him out. You may be inspired to give it a try also. We need for christians to start preaching/witnessing more. Might be the answer to an insane culture we're praying for! Im just saying.

  4. Street evangelism can be fun, sometimes in the Shakespearean sense of the word. Been there done that. Been the Tuesday night warrior for Jesus too, visiting unannounced, the homes of church visitors, and also just knocking on doors. Have visited the homes of people that just leave their kids on the curb so to speak to be picked up for a Saturday children's ministry- now that is an adventure! Best one and the most fun for me happened in reverse. I was at Nassau to do a work week building classrooms. I heard music at night that sounded much Pacific Isles hymns that I love to listen to. We had been told how very dangerous it was to go out at night, and to keep our place locked tight. But, I heard the music, saw a bare lightbulb shinning in the blind darkness so I headed toward it. Something huge grabbed me from the darkness and dragged me into the building where the music was playing. I was set into a child's folding chair and a hymnal placed in my hands- It was in Creole. I had been pulled into a Haitian church group's all nighter revival, complete with a Scotsman missionary. And they were going to save me before dawn evidently. A great fun memory. Really nice people. The lady that pulled me in got points and praise for most people brought into the revival. She could have picked up and dragged Haystack Calhoun in, she was a big big person with a seriously kind and driven heart. And yes there is need to share the gospel of Jesus.

  6. This is kind of hard to explain. But how do you know if you really have forgiven someone? I mean I think I have forgiven them. I hold no hate against them and wish them no ill will. I help them out when they call me up and ask for my help with something. I even offer to help if they inform me about an issue they are having. But I can not forget what they did to me. It hurt so very much and still hurts. So even though I think I have forgiven them, I can't forget the hurt that they did to me. Also they don't seem to think they did anything wrong to me. They have never told me they are sorry or anything for what they did. What they did still hurts. So have I really forgiven them?

  10. At one time I lived and worked on the navajo reservation. In the day to day activity of my job, I would call patients into a room and talk to them privately about their medication. One day I called in a patient. He was dressed in a yellow shirt and a red hat. Various pins decorated the hat. He also wore traditional navajo jewelry. As he sat down, he asked me if I knew what day it was. I said "yes its june 14th". He said "it is flag day, dont forget it." Here is a man of an elite group, who fought in world war ii. Who did not even have the right to vote yet. (Navajos were not fully granted the right to vote in new mexico until 1948.) Who was not even allowed to talk about his experiences until the military declassified the code in 1968. All of the original 29 code talkers who developed the code have since passed away. Of the remaining code talkers who fought in the war, most of them are gone too. Three of them passed away in the last month and a half. I do not know if he was one of the original 29 code talkers, or one of the later code talkers, but he taught me a valuable lesson. I am privileged to have gotten to meet many of them during my time on the reservation.

  18. If you can find a loving, Bible teaching church with sound doctrine, it's a wonderful thing. Currently I am not attending as my two former long time, churches went way, way liberal, and I am not able to travel far now to another church. But when I went I really loved hearing the good sermons and feeling renewed each Sunday as God's word went deep into my mind and spirit. I do think you should visit a few different fellowships to see if you feel led to one. You could always post the website and ask here if the church has good teachings. Since you seem to have many questions regarding the basics, a good church would be of help to you. And you might be very surprised at how much you will enjoy it.

  19. Hi Ryan, Remember we are the church, the called out ones, part of the Body of Christ. I think you mean a public meeting run by a religious organisation. And no you do not have to attend a public meeting run that way. It is important though for us as believers to get together or phone or e-mail etc with other believers. This can be for a meal, a chat, encouragement, a study, sharing, prayer, social, etc The Lord say He is with us in the 2`s and 3`s and that is wonderful for we help each other in our daily lives. all the best, Marilyn.

  21. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-7 The Man of Lawlessness 2 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

  22. This one is lengthy, almost 45 minutes, but I think it is worth your time. I found it fascinating and delightful, and should be encouraging and helpful to Christians. I was tempted to put it in the Bible Topics area, there is a not of Bible in it. However it is more of a testimony of the remarkable events of Corrie's life of how she came to be imprisoned in Nazi Germany for hiding Jews from persecution, and her experiences in concentration camps. Did you know fleas and lice, can be a blessing from God, and an ant can give you a sermon? There are lessons here, for any who might find themselves in persecution, (real persecution, not merely being ridiculed for your faith at the work place) to see how faith can see us through, should such events ever befall us.

  23. I did it myself. Am I pleased? Well I could be, the floor is looking pretty nice and I saved all that labor cost too! Perhaps a couple grand more or less is still in my pocket that would have gone to pay for labor to install flooring in the mother in law unit. Of course if I deduct the medical costs and factor in the incredible amount of time it took me with the rooms out of use maybe I didn't do so well. Let's see I have black and blue toes, my knees are like ripened cantaloupe, I paid the spinal doctor $1800's, was laid up pretty much for eight months in the middle of the job to be done that should have taken a couple weeks tops. I am having to consider getting the knees worked on as one has been re-injured and locks up and one ankle just screams out with each step. Oh yes, the chiropractor and the kinesiologist have gotten their share of my saved money on my DIY too. Oh the price of the sin of my pride. The determination that I can still do it, I can still work the work of the young, probably has cost me three or four times the cost of having it all done for me, and I carry the pain with me to boot. What's the line from the movie Forest Gump- Stupid is as stupid does? I am seriously thinking- put the for sale sign out on the old homestead, it is way to big for an old man's needs. Besides I just selected a retreat mountain chalet for my younger bride's security should I pre decease her. Perhaps I should have been looking at congregate living quarters- but pride it won't let me. My own mother stayed in her home till she died at 93, course she stopped putting in flooring herself long before that age. Isn't is wondrous the lessons God allows some of us to learn the hard way?

  26. Hi douge, The body of Christ, which is comprised of both Jews and Gentiles - the church -, did indeed begin at Pentecost. All of my proof texts will be quoted from the NIV. Peter may be addressing Jews here, but this does not mean at all that they would not become the newly formed church - the body of Christ: (1Co 7:18) Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. and... (1Co 12:13) For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. and... (1Co 12:27) Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. It's so plain and obvious that whether "Jews or Gentiles" forms "one body" (Ch. 12 verse 13)... and that one body is called "the body of Christ" (Ch. 12 verse 27). One gospel letter to both Jew and Gentile saying they are the body of Christ. It's not just Peter preaching that gospel, Paul also preached that to the Gentiles: (1Co 2:2) For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. and... (1Co 15:12) Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? Both Peter and Paul preached Christ and Him crucified and resurrected and both baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. They - Jews and Gentiles - both heard the same message and the faith was delivered one time for all people, not two times for two groups of people: (Jud 1:3) Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God's holy people. You aren't out-right saying it, but the implication is just dripping in your message: Are you saying that there is a different gospel message of salvation depending on a person being circumcised vs. uncircumcised? This especially is implied when you say: I await your answer to that. Moving on... It's not just the sins of the nation of Israel that Peter's message was restricted to: (Mat 16:18) And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. and... (Luk 24:46) He told them, "This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, (Luk 24:47) and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Matthew 16:18 was fulfilled when Peter preached the gospel message at Pentecost. The gospel message preached at Pentecost was not only meant for Israel, but "to all nations beginning at Jerusalem." It literally says that this message, which was preached "beginning in Jerusalem", was to be "preached to all nations" - not just Israel as you assert. As shown above, the body of Christ is indeed comprised of Jews and Gentiles and therefore the culmination of Acts 2 is indeed the church - the body of Christ. And it began in Jerusalem on Pentecost.

  27. No we are not at the fifth seal opening since the book of revelation has told us that we are not even in the 7 year tribulation yet. Have we experienced any of these? I really don't think so. he first seal. The first seal introduces the Antichrist (Revelation 6:1–2). From the biblical description, we gather several details: he rides a white horse, which speaks of peace; at the beginning of the tribulation, the Antichrist will come under the pretense of bringing peace to the world (cf. Daniel 9:27). He is given a crown, which indicates that the Antichrist will exercise great authority (cf. Daniel 7:24–25). He holds a bow, which shows his true intentions, and he advances “as a conqueror bent on conquest” (Revelation 6:2). The second seal. When the Lamb opens the second seal, great warfare breaks out on the earth (Revelation 6:3–4). This is symbolized by a rider with a large sword on a fiery red horse. The third seal. The breaking of the third of the seven seals causes famine (Revelation 6:5–6). The rider that John sees is riding a black horse and “holding a pair of scales in his hand.” Then John hears a declaration that people will have to work all day to earn just a little food. The fourth seal. The fourth seal is opened, and John sees a pale horse. “Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him” (Revelation 6:7–8). The result of this fourth seal is that one fourth of the earth’s population are killed “by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.” The fifth seal. The scroll’s fifth seal reveals those who will be martyred for their faith in Christ during the tribulation (Revelation 6:9–11; cf. Matthew 24:9). The souls of these martyrs are pictured as dwelling under the altar in heaven. God hears their cries for justice, and He gives each of them a white robe. The martyrs are told to wait “until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.” God promises to avenge them, but the time was not yet (cf. Romans 12:19). www.gotquestions.org/seven-seals-Revelation.html

I see many like that, usually the owners are not aware. I buy the inexpensive 3x5 nylon woven, ten bucks, e bay. Last about a year. I'm proud of our flag. "The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the national flag of the United States of America. ... This is a U.S. federal law, but the penalty described in Title 18 of the United States Code (18 U.S.C. § 700) for failure to comply with it is not enforced."

  33. Hi dianne, That`s great. You are doing so well, just don`t let the enemy make you the scape goat for the ills of the world. You and your son are together and moving on in the Lord. Don`t look back, don`t listen to the nay sayers, keep focussed on the Lord and He will take you through this very trying time for parents especially. Your heart is soft to the Lord, so just keep thanking him for your son and that He is taking you through. Circumstances in this world come and go and are all worth nothing, really, the only true substance is out belief and trust in the Lord. Material things perish, relationships are not always true, but the Lord knows our hearts and is working with us to shape us like Him. That is all we take to glory, our inner selves, so treasure what the Lord is doing and hold lightly to everything around. Blessings, Marilyn.

  38. I have a pair of cats, so there's always cat food in the house. There are a lot of cats that come and go in the area. Right now there's a cat living under the house along with her kittens. She lets me pet her and has a strong purr. I usually give her a handful of food if I see her but otherwise I don't leave it out to sit unattended. Too many large animals and potential predators that might be drawn to it. One of the other cats is accustomed enough to humans that she'll come within a few inches and act very cute around humans but if you try to pet her she'll hiss and growl. Got her to eat out of my hand once. Take a few bites, growl, repeat.

  40. Many years ago, In the past, where we live out in the woods, stray cats were rare. There was one, the ugliest cat I've seen, that I began noticing, catching only brief glances over the weeks and months. It was a brown copper and black, and the fur always looked like it just had a fight, that it lost. Very independent, and very wild. We started leaving scrap meat and bones out, that would disappear. He seemed to live in the old tractor shed where I stored lumber. He always disappeared at night. It took several years before it would come up and not run away when approached, and was only handled maybe a half dozen times, and then, spiting and growling. It had adopted us. I'm not a cat person, for sure. But I missed him when he got old, and finally never showed up anymore. His name was, the cat.

  42. Hi again, There are Bible references to the concern first mentioned. And of course there is commentary too. One commentary is at https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/how-god-visits-sins-on-the-third-and-fourth-generation whether the comments are concurred with or not the several bible references alone may be helpful. As for myself I do believe that my own faults my own sins certainly affected and still affect my now middle age children. Yet they are responsible for their own situations. Fortunately they do see the overall struggle and hopefully growth in my own sanctification process, which may have some affect upon them. It seems to me that homes of individuals mentioned in the Bible had three and four generations within them, and that yes of course the sins of the head of the household would visit upon all of the occupants. But not in the sense of their being called or not called by the Holy Spirit specifically and personally. To make it very personal, my father was an atheist, yet the Holy Spirit called upon me personally and in such force that I had little or no reasonable way to reject the Holy Spirit making me aware of my Lord Jesus. So even if brought up without any exposure in the home to God, Jesus the son is there and He does call through God the Holy Spirit who the Father wills, losing not a one given him by His Father. PLUS God answers prayer! I am the product of prayer by my grandmother for me to know God. I suggest that God answered her prayer long after she had passed on from the flesh, I was not brought to my own salvation until decades after her death, and yet I was always saved as God had answered her. Have confidence to pray for your son, let him know of your prayers and read the word of God with him is my suggestion. My grandmother never missed the chance to pray and to share of God's word with her very young grandson. Your own son will have heard the word and when real hard trouble approaches him the word which is the armor of God for his own will be there for him. Praying for you and your son, as I ask if you will pray for me and my own children and my grandchild. ps hang in there working at a school (I did it for fourteen years, at a Christian school). It is a challenge today.

  43. If the world will be judged by how they treated "the least of these My brethren"...IOW how they helped the saints in time of need (Mat. 25), it isn't too much of a stretch to understand how the family of saints are also justified (even sanctified) for their own support. The saints are as a light in the world. When in the presence of a saint....there is a presence of God as well...from the eternal life that is flowing from them. An ambassador of heaven is an authority from heaven. It is like being next to a fire. If we are close to the fire do we not feel it's warmth? The saints of God are like a fire that gives warmth to the world. So then salvation comes by the mere presence of these. The kingdom of God comes to be in our midst because of the fellowship of the saints. Where 2 or 3 are gathered there is Christ in our midst. There is salvation...His life and love...present in the world through the saints. Of course we are talking about actual saints...not modern style believers who are walking after the flesh. It must be the ones who are dead to themselves and alive in Christ...so that His life is being manifested through them.

  44. Hi Ryan, Well, little brother it's been a while since seeing your myriad of questions here on Worthy. Perhaps the church that is so conveniently close by isn't to your liking, because it may not be a Christ centered one. But in answer to is it a sin if you don't attend church, no it's not. But let's get back to the reason for asking members of Worthy all these other questions in the past. I'm saying this in compassion and concern for both your spiritual well being and growth in Christ. You need some sound doctrinal teaching in the basics of Christianity. I'd steer clear of most of the numerous televangelists. Too many, too erroneous, just too much! A good bible believing church, where you can hear how to walk triumphantly as a believer would benefit you tremendously. I'd strongly encourage you to keep looking for one. God bless. Shalom, . 45. The words God said would be sealed till the time of the end. The knowledge is increased now. These times began in that book of Daniel, when GOd changed times and seasons as said to Nebuchadnezzer. It was also the second year of his reign, 604 BC. A week to God that equalled to 2520 years, and half way came to 657 AD when the daily sacrifice taken away and the abomination that makes desolate set up. The time came to 1917 when Israel was recaptured after a very long time away and Britian during world war one wanted to return this to the Jewish people. The time was not yet, so this only happened after the world war two. (nation against nation as Christ foretold. But from that time the abomination that makes desolate set up, 657 AD, there is 1290 years more. 1947 the UN voted to return Israel to the Jews and it was recovered. from the Muslims who had set up abomination in Jerusalem also.. Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. 8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. 11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. God is focused on Israel here only. They had not glorified God, had done blasphemy/ made His Holy name disgraced. Doing ABOMINATION until they would be consumed. Now God shows His glory will be made known to the Gentiles to correct the wrong that was done.. Isaiah 66:15 For, behold, the Lord will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by his sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many. 17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the Lord. 18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. 19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles. They killed the prophets, the people sent to wan and help them from God. Then all the righteous blood shed on earth came upon them, and it is told just to them, their hoise is left to them DESOLATE.. Matthew 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? 34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! 38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Now we see the abomination of desolation, (It's meaning) Christ warns them that they should flee into the mountains from Judea. Great tribulation and to pray their escape is not on the sabbath day. Then the sun and moon light shows no more. The powers of Heaven shaken, as happened while Christ was there and they knew it not. Christ had told who would be responsible for all the righteous blood, the ones who shed it of the prophets(these are the righteous) Then the tribes mourn, the Kings of the earth, and specifically Israel who also killed the Son sent unto them, and their advice was to flee to the mountains. Revelation 6 confirms the same again, as it is a rehearsal book, remembering all that has been accomplished by Christ who finished all things, plus the ending of this world now, telling all that is known now, as a last testimony for everyone who never heard before who never hears now also. When Christ was crucified, that was the great earthquake, the time of satan who had nothing in Christ, hence the sixth, Heaven was shaken and satan and all the exalted stars fell, as Christ destroyed him who had the power of death, satan and his angels, that was and always will be heaven departing as a scroll, this was the time of mourning for every great man, for every king, who could abide in the day of Christ was already told, already fulfilled, and all the tribes of the earth did mourn, and preferred the mountains to fall on them because of the refining fire.. The hour of darkness, the sixth hour, and that sixth seal... John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. Luke 22:53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Luke 23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. The earth did quake, just as there was darkness from that sixth hour over all the earth. But all this of course was never known originally, nobody knew about the time of the flood, Israel did not know about Christ, and finally nobody knows now too, all was done also, and the great earthquake and Babylon, this whole world of people judged, then every island flees away, every King and great man, and the blessed ones watch and keep their garments pure, and the cursed ones do not, they watch everything else, and continue in debates for nothing.. Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. 17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. 19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Malachi 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

  47. “Amend Your Ways” The Prophet Jeremiah was given the very difficult calling of God to warn Judah of the approaching, devastating judgment that would soon come on Judah and Jerusalem and their inhabitants unless the people would hearken to His call to repent of their sin and iniquity. God pled with His people through Jeremiah: “Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord; and I will not cause Mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger for ever. Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God.... Turn, O backsliding children…for I am married unto you…. Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings…” (Jer. 3:12-14, 22). What a heart God had for His people! What more gracious offer could He make to His sinning people who rejected His commandments and worshiped other gods? Again and again God appealed earnestly through Jeremiah to His wayward people: “Amend your ways and your doings.... If you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings...then I will let you dwell…in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever” (Jer. 7:3, 5, 7). But the leaders of the people continued on in their rebellious ways against the commandments of God. They rejected warning after warning from God through Jeremiah and other prophets throughout the reign of several kings until God could bear the sin no longer. In God’s time, judgment came as prophesied. Many of the people were carried away in captivity to Babylon. The cities of Judah became desolate. Jerusalem was burned. Reading the story of Judah’s sad failure doubtlessly makes many of us feel like echoing loudly Jeremiah’s cry in our nations today, “Amend your ways and your doings!” We feel deep concern as we see sin and iniquity abounding on every hand. Judgment seems impending. But knowing that the merciful heart of God is as great today as in Jeremiah’s day toward those who repent and do righteous deeds, we have hope and not despair. “...Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (Rom. 5:20). In this hour of extreme need, how thankful we can be that the Lord issues a call to repentance and prayer for the ultimate answer, which is His powerful intervention in revival power! Amending MY Ways Revival in a nation begins with revival in the church, and revival in the church begins with you and me! It is not safe to assume that I have no ways or deeds to amend. The tendency is to compare ourselves with others and feel that we are doing all right, but it is essential to wait before the Lord and His Word, that we may examine and judge ourselves biblically. Keeping a watchful eye on our ways and deeds and amending them where needed is essential if we are to pray effectively for revival. By Lois J. Stucky
