  1. Jay, have you found a good, Bible believing church? If not, you should visit some. Talk to the pastor and find one that can help you. As you hear the Bible preached, this will help your faith to be strengthened. You will feel a change in your heart and mind as the Bible and the Holy Spirit renew you. Keep looking to Jesus!

  2. I wouldn't say it's a waste of time if God leads you to a spouse. In that case, be thankful. However, we should always put our relationship with Christ first. As you noted, only God can fulfill us inwardly. Then we will be more able to love others as we ought to do.

  3. After seeing this article in todays news I feel it is my duty to warn anyone who plans to come to arizona. DO NOT GO HIKING IN THE SUMMER IN ARIZONA. 44 kansas people went hiking at 230 pm, the worst time of day to begin a hike. 44 people tied up emergency services to be rescued. I dont care if you think oh its a dry heat no problem. It is a problem. No amount of water will save you from overheating. People can die. People have died. Fortunately not in this group. Do. Not. Go. Hiking. In. Arizona. In. The. Summer. https://www.azfamily.com/news/hikers-from-kansas-group-rescued-at-lost-dutchman-state-park/article_6c009b56-c5be-11e9-988a-b3bdc1535227.html

  4. James 4:8 tells us that if we draw closer to God that He in turn will draw closer to us. That means prayer, seeking God, obedience, carrying out His will, and other things. It's important to have fellowship with other believers as well for a multitude of reasons. Closeness tends to come with time spent and experience. As you walk with God, go through various challenges in life, and see Him carry you through a sense of closeness will certainly come. It can help to look at testimonies and praise reports, too.

  5. you seem to already regret these things that are happening to you and I assume you are repenting of getting involved with them.... you are finding that we as simple humans have no authority to deal with the spirit world. You do need to formally within yourself decide that Jesus is your Lord no matter what.... I am assuming that you do really believe Jesus came and died for our sins and was raised from the dead.... You are correct in needing to be baptized, but more important you need to confess publicly that Jesus is your Lord and you have placed yourself into his hands for eternity. Getting rid of the demons won't really do any good for if you don't bring the Holy Spirit into your very being, they will just come back stronger.

  8. Years ago, I wanted the same thing, so I simply got down and prayed, and poured my heart out to GOD about the closeness I would love to have with Him, and know His will and plan for me. I was patient for His answer and God was faithful to answer, and we are so very close now and several times He has revealed His will for me in serving, as the seasons in my life have changed. Simply an AWESOME GOD !!

  9. Study the bible, I've read it or listened to it over 200 times, I may have hit 3 but it doesn't matter, you'll meet a lot of people and pastors in church, but you don't know who's telling the truth unless you've studied the bible, and there's a lot of liars who want your money or to have you go to their church. Proverbs chapter 9 verse 11 For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.

  10. Shalom @Filip I believe the answer is a lot easier than you think. All the things you are searching for can be found in reading the Bible with the right heart attitude... Please check out this webpage for a full but brief breakdown to get you out of this rut. https://faithandtheword.com/bother/reading/ With the right dedication and heart towards His Word, you will get closer to Him, know His Will, be led by Him and rejoice in your spirit every day. It definitely will happen but not if we're too passive to His Word. Hopefully the webpage will help you understand that point. Take courage. The moment you posted such a worthy thread, the closer you are to the solution, so good job. He will see your heart on this matter and will reward you, if you continue to seek Him with your all. Love & Shalom

  11. Question: "How can I have a closer relationship with God?" The first thing we can do to have a closer relationship with God is to make a daily habit of confessing our sin to Him. If sin is the barrier in our relationship with God, then confession removes that barrier. When we confess our sins before God, He promises to forgive us (1 John 1:9), and forgiveness is what restores a relationship that has been strained. We must keep in mind that confession is more than simply saying, “I’m sorry for my sin, God.” It is the heartfelt contrition of those who recognize that their sin is an offense to a holy God. It is the confession of one who realizes that his sin is what nailed Jesus Christ to the cross. It is the cry of the publican in Luke 18 who said, “God be merciful to me a sinner!” As King David wrote, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise” (Psalm 51:17). The second thing we can do to have a closer relationship with God is to listen when God speaks. Many today are chasing a supernatural experience of hearing God’s voice, but the apostle Peter tells us that we “have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1:19). That “more sure prophetic word” is the Bible. In the Bible, we “hear” God’s voice to us. It is through the “God-breathed” Scriptures that we become “thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). So if we want to grow closer to God, we should read His Word regularly. In reading His Word, we are “listening” to God speak through it by his Spirit who illuminates the Word to us. The third thing we can do to have a closer relationship with God is to speak to Him through prayer. If reading the Bible is listening to God speak to us, speaking to God is accomplished through prayer. The Gospels often record Jesus secreting Himself away to commune with His Father in prayer. Prayer is much more than simply a way to ask God for things we need or want. Consider the model prayer that Jesus gives His disciples in Matthew 6:9-13. The first three petitions in that prayer are directed toward God (may His name be hallowed, may His kingdom come, may His will be done). The last three petitions are requests we make of God after we’ve taken care of the first three (give us our daily bread, forgive us our debts, lead us not into temptation). Another thing we can do to revive our prayer lives is to read the Psalms. Many of the Psalms are heartfelt cries to God for various things. In the Psalms we see adoration, contrition, thanksgiving and supplication modeled in a divinely inspired way. The fourth thing we can do to have a closer relationship with God is to find a body of believers with whom we can regularly worship. This is such a vital component of spiritual growth. Too often, we approach church with a “what can I get out of it?” mentality. We seldom take the time to prepare our hearts and minds for worship. Again, the Psalms show us many calls from God to His people to come and worship the Lord (for example, Psalm 95:1-2). God invites us, commands us, to come into His presence for worship. How can we, His people, fail to respond? Not only does regular church attendance give us an opportunity to come before the Lord’s presence in worship, but it also gives us an opportunity to fellowship with the Lord’s people. As we come into the house of the Lord in worship and fellowship with His people, we can’t help but grow closer to the Lord as a result. Finally, a closer relationship with God is built upon a life of obedience. Jesus told His disciples in the upper room, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:23). James tells us that as we submit ourselves to God through obedience, resist the devil, and draw near to God, He will draw near to us (James 4:7-8). Paul tells us in Romans that our obedience is our “living sacrifice” of thanksgiving to God (Romans 12:1). We must keep in mind that all biblical exhortations to obedience are presented as our response to the grace of God we receive in salvation. We don’t earn salvation through our obedience; rather, it is the way we show our love and gratitude toward God. So, through confession, Bible study, prayer, regular church attendance, and obedience, we can develop a closer relationship with God. It seems rather simple, if not simplistic. But consider this: how do we develop a closer relationship with other human beings? We spend time with them in conversation, opening our hearts to them and listening to them at the same time. We acknowledge when we’ve done wrong and seek forgiveness. We seek to treat them well and sacrifice our own needs to fulfill theirs. It’s not really that different with our relationship to our Heavenly Father. https://www.gotquestions.org/closer-relationship-with-God.html

  13. Yes. Good answer. The oppression will lift as you get deeper into the Word of God and rearrange your priorities. Col 1:9-14 (9) For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; (10) that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; (11) strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; (12) giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. (13) He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, (14) in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

  14. When liars start throwing it in everyones face, demanding everyone accept them, have pride parades, sue Christian businesses, then they would be addressed more sternly. When adulterers start throwing it in everyones face, demanding everyone accept them, have pride parades, sue Christian businesses, then they would be addressed more sternly. You get the idea. The gay community is forcing it on Christians and in some areas Christians are accepting homosexuality as being ok. So the rest of us are resisting it.

  17. Hi Evgen, For me, reading God’s Word should be simple. I dedicate a designated time to pray, read, study and think about what I read throughout the day and how I can apply any learnings to my life. My desire is to be led and fed by the Holy Spirit. Psalm 1:2, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Proverbs 2:1-5, “My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.”

  20. This is my take on God's vengeance or retribution on the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and how it relates to sexual sin but there's another point to this and I want to begin with a story I may have already posted but that illustrates kinda cleverly the second point that will hopefully be clear by the time I'm done. The story is of a preacher from up north who had the opportunity to serve a one month trial period for a job with a church in KY. The deal was that he'd preach 4 sermons (one per week for a month) and then the deacons would decide if he got the job as full time pastor. Being an old fashioned prohibitionist teetotaler kind of fellow, he preached his first sermon on the evils of strong drink. After the service he was approached by the deacons who advised him that it was unwise to preach abstinence there as many of the congregation worked at the local distillery and some were farmers who sold their corn there. So, the next week he came back with renewed determination and preached on being good stewards of your money and mentioned the evils of gambling it. Again the deacons approached him and advised him to stay away from denouncing gambling because many of the congregation worked at the local racetrack and some were breeders whose horses raced there. SO, discouraged but still determined he came back the third time and this time he preached about how our body is the temple of the Lord and we shouldn't defile it with such nasty habits as tobacco. Guess what? Again the deacons protested because many of the congregation were tobacco farmers. The preacher was at a loss and asked "since you have objected to all three of my sermons, have you any suggestions? After a little thought they replied, "Why don't you preach on heathen witch doctors? We don't have any of those for miles around." Now, I'll not elaborate on the story at this juncture but promise I'll bring it back around at the end. Now back to Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah have become synonymous with homosexuality to the point that Sodom is the origin of the word Sodomy. The only thing the Bible account of the incident tells us definitively about the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah is found in Genesis 18:20-21 where we read in the KJV: 20 And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. So, no particular sin is mentioned here and after the pleading of Abraham, although God doesn't turn His wrath from the cities, He agrees to save Lot and his family because of their faith. Then in Chapter 19, the story unfolds. To conserve space in what's becoming a lengthy discussion, I'll quote the only the parts relevant to this discussion. The story begins with Lot convincing the angels sent of God to come to his house and dine. Then in verses 4-11 we find the portion of the story that has for centuries linked the incident and thus the cities with homosexuality. The KJV reads 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. 6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. 9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door. The key verse that links the story to homosexuality is found in verse 5. It starts with the fact that the question is "Where are the MEN which came in to thee this night" Much of the emphasis of those who use the story as a condemnation of homosexuality starts with the use of the masculine word "MEN" that's used by the town folk to refer to the Angels. Now, regardless of whether you ascribe to the idea that Angels have sexual identity or believe that it may simply be the inclination of the patriarchal society of the day to simply use masculine descriptions for them is really neither here nor there, as since the men outside identified them as male and wished to engage in non consensual sexual acts with them, their intent was indeed homosexual in nature. But the fact that it was non consensual constituted a sin in itself, and then the fact that it was fornication regardless of whether it was consensual or homosexual. So, there's three sins in one verse.I've heard others go on about how the sexual abuse of a stranger was a act of exercising power and not sexual but it's clear to me that even if the underlying end was a power trip it was through sexual sin that this was to be accomplished. So, what was really their sin (or sins, as related above) and why all the focus on the homosexuality when we can see three different sins in the same verse? The first question I can't answer beyond the three sexual sins that are found in this single act but as to how the homosexuality became the focus is related to the story that began this discussion. It's the idea of preaching on HEATHEN WITCH DOCTORS or in other words preaching a message that alienates as few as possible instead of the complete truth in God's word. It's a more convenient Gospel when you can lambast and curse the evil homosexuals and at the same time wriggle around the sexual sins that may hit closer to home. In Matthew Chapter 5 Christ tells us "Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." Maybe that could be interpreted, get the sin out of your own life and your own church and only then can you go after the "Heathen Witch Doctors" or "Evil Homosexuals" I believe that sin is sin and if God ranks sin, I doubt that Homosexuality is any worse that Adultery or Fornication. I hear folks who rave that Homosexuality is worse because it's an "ABOMINATION" unto the Lord, but what really is the difference between an abomination and any other sin. It's something I'll not expand on but there are several Hebrew words in the Old Testament that were translated as abomination. The put it in perspective, the Blue Letter Bible search resource found 76 references to the word in 69 verses in the Old testament alone. Just in the Proverbs alone we read the following: Pro 11:1 A false balance is ABOMINATION to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight. Pro 11:20 They that are of a perverse heart are ABOMINATION to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight. Pro 12:22 Lying lips are ABOMINATION to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. So, cheaters and liars are just as much an abomination to God as the Homosexual by that metric. So, why don't the same preachers scream quite as loud or put the same emphasis on cheating and lying? Again, I believe it's Heathen Witch Doctor syndrome. They're preaching a convenient Gospel instead of the full Word of God. It's a pretty deep dive I know, but it's just another example of how men monkey with God's word to make it suit their circumstances. "Straight is the gate and narrow the way." ''"

  25. Hebrews 11:3 - " By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible." This passage says that God spoke everything into existence which matches what Genesis says. About Cain's wife. Incest was not a "thing" nor defined by God until about 2500 years after Adam. It's not so much that incest is immoral - Abraham was married to his half-sister and it was no sin. There's a reason God stepped in with the Law and defined incest was that after 2500 years, physical mutations were common enough for close blood relatives to NOT marry. If both the woman and the man - say brother and sister - were to be carriers of something, say Huntington's disease. Then odds are, the child would not only carry it but it would be active in the child. We are lucky that so many mutations are recessive. Adam and Eve carried perfect genetic material. So did their children. So did the grandchildren. But slowly as time passes and genetic material decays - mutations occur. Much of what was in the law was for the protection of his people, not necessarily their moral state. Such things like having to have a priest declare your house clean or unclean [spiritually] because of mold. Forbidding some animals to be eaten. Cain either married a sister or a niece. If the ban on incest were based strictly and only on a moral dilemma, like rape, it would have been grossly sinful from the beginning.

  27. All I know for sure and all I need to know is that Heaven is where God is and Heaven is where Christ is and Heaven is where Peter and the early martyrs will be, too, so it's where I want to go. With that in mind, all I then have to do is see that I go there. Then I'll see for myself where it is and what else is there (aside from the few mentions in the Bible I don't know). So, whatever it is, and I'm told it's more wonderful and beautiful than I can ever imagine, I'll just spend my time doing what Christ taught so that I'll be sure to experience it for myself someday.

  28. I agree with parts of this and some parts less so. What I think you get correct is that the Bible was never intended as a scientific treatise nor does it give any answers as to the exact manner in which God created. That is why we have theistic evolutionists, old earth creationists and young earth creationist each with a different view on how the creative work of God came to pass. The important recognition of all of these views is that God is the Uncaused Cause or Prime Mover as Aquinas put it. I'm curious what pitfalls you see in evolution. Would you care to elaborate? Additionally, although I agree that Augustine is certainly not infallible, there is no denying his influence over the modern church (especially in the West - in Orthodoxy he is viewed differently). I would say that referring to all of his theological writings as bad is probably an overstatement.

Anyways, while reading through the posts I wondered if anyone has made a devotional about roaches. I found something here: Anyone who has had roaches in their kitchen can verify that they are a nocturnal creature – they come out by night. The minute you turn the light on, they scatter, thus the phrase, “scatter like roaches.” Even looking at the cockroach we can see God’s Goodness in the lessons He has for us. So as the cockroach scatters when the light is brought forth, so should we scatter when sin crosses our path. We have the blessed light of the Word of God to lighten our way. Psalms 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psa 119:105)

  30. Hi Marv, Dan 9:24- ...and to make reconciliation for iniquity Heb 2:17- Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. But you are saying "oh NO He didn't"??? Dan 24- ..."to finish transgerssion" Isaiah 53:5- He was wounded for our TRANSGRESSIONS, "It is FINISHED." You deny this too!??? Dan 924- ...To make an end of sins... "to save his people from their sins"... "put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" This, you reject!??? Dan 9:24- ...to bring in everlasting righteousness... Isaiah 53- ..."My righteous servant shall make many RIGHTEOUS." not the kind that comes from bulls and goats, but, Romans 3- "Even the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God...through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood to declare his RIGHTEOUSNESS for the remission of sins", 1 Cor 5- "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in him" You'll have none of this either??? Dan 9:24- to seal up (complete) vision and prophecy (literally, prophet) John 6- ..."For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Luke 18:21-Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. Luke 22:37- For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And you will turn away from this too!??? Perhaps you are not convinced, Marv. I guess that 7 year scenario may be quite important to you. If somehow you are believing these things were to be done by Israel I suppose you could show how each point is done by them instead of the ONE Israeli acting as a stand-in FOR them, I'll take a look at it.

Kindness is rooted in love. I can stand for light and for my Lord and be kind. I can refuse to compromise and be kind. I can walk in gentleness and kindness without being weak. In fact, walking the path of the Lord in love and kindness can take an inner strength that can only come from the Lord.

  44. Hi @Alex44, Yes, you can be redeemed. I'm just curious though, have you never accepted Jesus as your Saviour, and asked Him into your heart before? As for your concerns and also salvation, this verse comes to mind. 2 Peter 3:9 9The LORD is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. I'm not why you consider yourself a reprobate either. There's a reference on CARM.org about someone who has a reprobate mind, but it's pretty severe. Anyway this is it. A reprobate mind is a mind that is given over to sinful passions and ungodly desires. It is another way of describing a person who is set on satisfying the flesh and not on the Spirit of God. It is a person who rejects God and does what is self-serving instead of what God desires. Therefore, someone who is reprobate is under the condemnation of God. Saying, "can I be redeemed?" seems outside of being a reprobate, because you don't sound like someone who wishes to reject God at this point in life. So again, I'm wondering what's keeping you from making the decision to come to Christ?

  45. Enoch and Elijah are the only two people on earth that God took to heaven without dying. The Bible is silent on why God raptured these two humans to heaven without dying.

  46. Don't worry about your mother's so-called curses and don't think on them. Instead, if you are a child of God through faith in Christ and His sacrifice for you, then start to dwell on that. Realize that Christ is greater than any curse. I hope you have a Bible teaching church with loving members so you can be supported as you grow in faith. You should reconcile with your mother, that is, forgive her. But your relationship with Christ is the most important thing.

  47. Enoch “ walked and talked with God...”...Considering that he was “ caught up” and never experienced death, have you considered him and what part, if any , he played in this well- written post?

  49. Romans 15:8-9 Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a [a]servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: “For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, And sing to Your name.”
