  1. I am not trying to rant or be a downer. But after reading many many posts I don't think I have found one where people can agree. Do people just come here to argue their point? Or are we truly trying to build the Body of Christ and learn more about Him. I understand that we can learn things from one another. But it seems sometimes there are arguments just for the sake of arguing.
  2. Agreed. I have found it's not about the evidence with atheists. No one has been "argued" into becoming a believer.
  3. I believe all sins are equal to God. But God forgives all sin also.
  4. This is a great post. I know it was meant in jest but it is quite true. Many people just love to argue doctrinal issues. I belong to a couple other Christian sites and it is the same way there.
  5. Sorry I haven't read all the posts here. But I have a thought. The eternal damnation is a total separation from God. I don't think anything can exist being separated from God totally. So maybe they just cease to exist.
  6. Are you uncomfortable because he is not a christian? Or because you dated and it's over?
  7. There is always a chance. Did you speak with the leadership and ask for forgiveness and let them know that you are owning your part of the problem?
  8. I think writing jobs are pretty hard to come by.
  9. The short answer....We all go through peaks and valleys. I always found that just pressing through the valleys has helped me. If you draw near to God he will draw near to you. He is always there. I have a lot of times where I feel my prayers are hitting the ceiling and coming back. But I have to remember that is my feeling not Gods. I have to have faith that He is hearing my prayers. As I push through that valley, I soon find myself on another peak.
  10. I like the ones based on true events also
  11. What about the movie Courageous where there is a crooked cop stealing drugs and selling them?
  12. I guess I don't see it as them promoting the whole gay parent or gay couple thing. It is something that is out there. And if we hide from it we are only being ignorant to the world that we are in. We don't have to agree with it, but we do have to accept that it is going to happen. I would think that it would allow for healthy families to have a conversation about their own morals and values and how that type of relationship, although it happens, is not right.
  13. I would have to see the actual situation. If it is mentioned in passing that is not too big of a deal. But if it's a storyline portrayed throughout the film then it does become a big deal. I am horrible at analogies. But if you were at a grocery store and saw the cashier sell something to an openly gay couple, would you never shop there again?
  14. I agree JTC, that what we look at CAN affect us. But just because you watch a bad film doesn't mean you are going to go out and commit a murder. If that were true there would be murderous rampages EVERYWHERE. There wouldn't be anything safe for us to watch. Porn is a totally different animal I feel. The drugs that are released in the brain from porn are like heroin. I don't think that that is even in the same arena as horror films. Porn has led to a serious decline in our society in the church as well as outside of the church. IT has torn apart marriages and families worldwide. I know there are cases where people have done bad things due to what they saw in a movie. But I also believe there must have been some mental instability there as well. Would it be any different that if I watched a show like Facing the Giants (which, btw is awesome) then I thought I could go out and become a high school football coach. Or watching Fireproof means I am going to go out and be a firefighter (which I actually am LOL).
  15. I agree and at the same time disagree with some of the stuff here. I do enjoy movies like Facing the Giants and other faith based movies. I think suspense/horror flicks that I do enjoy are ones that are based on true events (i.e.. the conjuring). I don't believe that movies lead to more gruesome deaths. Look at Jack the Ripper or Ed Gein. There were actually movies based on these guys. They didn't get their ideas from a movie. Also, to say that Christians shouldn't watch these I don't know is entirely accurate. If they are that bad than maybe nobody should be watching them. That's kinda like saying Christians shouldn't do meth. No Christians shouldn't but nobody else should either. I really think that a lot of it depends on your own mental faculties. If you are driven to kill you are going to do it whether you watch a movie or not. I grew up on John Wayne, Chuck Norris, Charles Bronson, etc. I have to admit they have a lot more blood, death, gore than many horror films. As one person said though. I try not to mention many R rated movies myself. Many horror films now are rated PG-13
  16. I know there will be some controversy here but, I love to watch horror flicks. I remember when I was younger if my mom had to go out of town my dad would let me rent one from the video store. I don't so much enjoy the blood and guts of them but the suspense and the make you jump parts. My question is, is do you think it is bad to watch them? I know they aren't the best thing to be watching but.....
  17. I think the only caveat to this would have been before Christ was here. The people then weren't able to accept him as their savior. I have heard some people say though that the people before Christ could have been saved in the faith that their Savior was to come.
  18. It does make sense though. If folks were living to around 700-900 years old in those days it was able to really ramp up the population.
  19. Interesting side note. I heard the other day that they estimate before the flood there was between 7-13 billion people on the earth. That's billion with a "B" folks.
