  1. Those that live a little too close for comfort, which could be in about 2/3 of the United States according to that article, may not share your idea of it being cool to see!
  2. I wonder how betrayed all of those folks feel that went out of their way to support them during the uproar in the summer. I remember the shots of the lines of folks waiting to get in to eat there.
  3. I personally believe that when we make jokes about things that God has told us are sinful, we are probably crossing a line that we shouldn't. Does it seem to be right to make light of something wrong by turning it into a joke? It surely doesn't seem so to me. I also have a hard time when very serious subjects or circumstances are turned into a joke, particularly if the joking is in any way about God or eternal matters.
  4. I wonder who is responsible for the "revenge attacks" there that killed 3 other people in the mosque attack. Does anyone know?
  5. Sure don't want to be like him either. That was certainly not my point in the least. But the sinful human heart minus the grace of God in Christ is capable of horrific evil. A quick look at history, either Biblical history or secular history, surely shows us that.
  6. It takes a kook that will gun down and kill innocent people in a church, movie theater, shopping malls, etc., and, it takes someone very mentally disturbed to even want to kill themselves. We are not discussing ...sin here . For we know that there are people in prisons that , God can saved them before they die. I guess I am looking at this in a very different way then some of you here. If discussing shooting down innocent people any place isn't discussing sin--then I guess I don't know what is!
  7. I haven't been on this site much lately and am certainly late weighing in on this discussion. I agree 100% with everyone here that has said that no one should be murdered for their religious beliefs. But I must also admit that I find it singularly disturbing to refer to the man who did this as a "mutant". He was a human being, just like the rest of us. Afflicted with the same sin nature as the rest of us too. Because he gave in to some form of hate/fear/passion/ whatever, does not make him any less human. He was a "mutant" only in that he is not what man was originally created to be. But neither am I. And neither are you.
  8. "Hubby and I were just talking the other day about the absurdity of the fact that in this country (America) it is not only legal but increasingly accepted for a woman to have her unborn child killed via abortion, yet anyone who murders a pregnant woman can be charged with TWO counts of murder, at least in some jurisdictions. Not sure about nation-wide. The point being, of course, that it is a blatant double standard that no one seems to want to acknowledge. Now, if this notion of infanticide being no different or worse than abortion picks up, how are they going to distinguish between parents who decide their newborns are just too much of a burden and child abusers who take the beatings or shaking too far? " I was thinking earlier about how the whole definition of murder is going to have to be changed if a standard like this were to be adopted. There are going to have to be a whole lot of new caveats added to the laws to define when killing a human being is killing a "person" and is murder and when killing a human being that is not a "person" is not murder. Slippery slope, we are sliding further down by the minute.
  9. "If criteria such as the costs (social, psychological, economic) for the potential parents are good enough reasons for having an abortion even when the fetus is healthy, if the moral status of the newborn is the same as that of the infant and if neither has any moral value by virtue of being a potential person, then the same reasons which justify abortion should also justify the killing of the potential person when it is at the stage of a newborn." http://jme.bmj.com/content/early/2012/03/01/medethics-2011-100411.full And these are healthy, in all ways normal babies they are talking about. But they are not yet "persons" according to these folks and so we should be able to kill them even after birth for no other reasons then they will be a supposed burden to the parents. How far down the slippery slope have we really gone? This is horrible. And this discussion is in a medical ETHICS journal. You can bet that if newborns are declared to not be persons with no inherent right to life, other groups are certainly not far behind.
  10. I sat here earlier and wrote up a comment--then promptly somehow deleted it. Still now sure how I managed that. Without doing all of the site searching I did before since I just don't have the time to repeat it, let me just make an observation. It seems that what you are suggesting people do before they ask a question here may be a quite daunting task that requires a lot of time. I looked up several key words for subjects that are often discussed on blogs. They were, as I remember them, "Calvinism", "predestination", "elect" and "election", "evolution", "theistic evolution", and "young earth". At least three of those terms had 1000 replies come up! The others were in the hundreds. How many folks have time or are going to take time to sort through all of that and read what appears to be the most relevant threads? Not many I would think. There is a thread on Calvinism/Arminianism that I know has been active here off and on since I became a member here. If I remember correctly, it currently has 1,140 comments. That alone is a duanting undertaking to mow through. Granted, if you have much more refined search parameters, it may not be quite so overwhelming. But frankly, to know that this is what is expected of us here by at least some of you makes it more then a bit intimadating to try to start any conversations here. At least unless it is on a subject that appears has not been discussed at all in the past!
  11. Hi folks. I don't know about you, but I can hardly believe that another year has already passed us by. Here we are, on the threshold of another new year. I hope that all of you will have an upcoming year that is rich with His presence. If it brings us many trials or many things that we consider great blessings, may you walk through it knowing that He is with you and whatever He sends, it is for a reason. Truly, He does all things well! Edit: Maybe a New Year's resolution for me needs to be to learn to proof read things better! Can't even get my topic title right this am.
  12. I do empathize, believe me! I have my kids and grand kids here. And my mother in law. They will all be here tomorrow and that is great. But this year specially, I have been missing those Christmas times when I was a little girl. Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa. They have both been gone since the 60's. Christmas with aunts, uncles, and cousins from both sides of the family, and my Sister. And most of all Christmas with my Mom and Dad. Many of them, including Mom and Dad, are gone now too. The ones that aren't are too far scattered far and wide or just plain too far away for Christmas get togethers. I have to focus on Jesus and the reason we are celebrating too. If I didn't, I think I could get really down this time of year.
  13. I find it very troublesome that our government can so easily engage in actions such as this that put our military personnel in harms way and that may possibly have far reaching repercussions for all in our nation. Troops have been there since May and we are just now learning about it?
  14. Hi Peri, Spacing stuff out really is a help isn't it? One of the things that I do too and and have found to be a big help is buying gifts early. Actually, the after Christmas sales and the seasonal (spring and fall) clearance sales can be a very good time to pick up things to use for gifts for the next year. My biggest problem with doing this has been forgetting what I have already bought and finding myself with extra presents for someone come Christmas time! Oh well, often they just become a head start on the next year's gift buying! Yes, the after Christmas sales and various other sales are great times to shop. I've done the same thing: buying extra presents. I just use them for next year, too, or, if it's a generic enough gift, use it for a gift basket for a new mom in the church or ladies night out giveaway, etc. BTW Peri, Welcome to Worthy! Hope this is an enjoyable and profitable place for you to interact.
