  1. Sometimes it is a challenge to discern whether something is a desire of our own hearts or a call from the Lord. Of course it can be both. Having your husband's support is great. If this desire has persisted over a period of time it could likely be the Holy Spirit is prompting you to jump in and try. You can always expect some opposition if you are to move forward. And that may require a "leap in faith" for you, that is, to try something without having a lot of encouragement from others. And timing is very important too. I remember having a desire to teach women's bible studies for over a year before I finally started doing them. I wasn't really ready yet but the Lord put that desire in my heart. I put it on the back burner and continued to pray and wait. Eventually doors opened and I was invited to teach one. I ended up doing eight of them within five years and still do one occasionally. Here is a great scripture which inspires me. (Psalm 37:3-5) (NKJV) Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. peace and blessings Thank you for your insight Evergreenjo. I will think on the wisdom you have shared as well as the scripture you have shared and pray on it too. If it is God's will and meant to be, it will be. Just remember that it is not "pointless" and that when you sense God is calling it is up to you to take action and step forth in faith. It is just too easy to give into discouragement but you won't have peace unless you try.
  2. uncompleted post. erasing. sorry, my mistake. my post (#9) follows this. thanks.

  4. As flawed as we are (sometimes) we believers are "church" because we are the Body of Christ. Matthew 16:18 (KJV) "And, I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
  5. buddie, Jesus paid a huge price for our sins. Sure it is hard to understand; but if we read the whole bible starting with Genesis we get the whole story and why. And as the scriptures say in John 15:13. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 (KJV).
  6. Love means many things but one of them is to say "no" sometimes especially when you can see that doing something is really hindering rather than helping. This happens in relationships where someone begins to take advantage of the other's generosity. Anyway, read through the gospels and you will see many times how the Lord helped others and other times where he went somewhere to be alone or confronted them with the truth. Speaking the truth about your own limitations to a friend is a good thing to do and we call it "speaking the truth" in love. Doesn't mean you are selfish (although it could depending on your own motivations) but usually means you are just wise. Always pray for discernment about whether or what to do or not to do and whether to say anything or not. And guard your heart for out of it come the issues of life as the scriptures say.
  7. Just went through this last week. The cold air vaporizer helps. Also the doctor had me take Delsym for the cough and Mucinex for the nasal congestion. Only thing is that when the nose loosened up it really loosened up. Only took both for a couple of days along with an aspirin. I am doing well. And, of course, prayed. praying for you to feel better soon.
  8. The Touch of the Master's Hand I am thinking of a poem I read years ago right after I found Jesus and accepted Him as my Lord and Savior...when I first became a believer and follower of Christ. And it so fits me now over 50 years later. It is called "The Touch of the Master's Hand" and can be read on the link above.
  9. It really depends on the school itself. I sent my daughter to a Catholic school for a year while we were on sabbatical in another city. I was working on my M.A. back then. There was some over indoctrination I didn't like even though back then (25 years ago) we were going to the Catholic Church. At one time I sent my two older children to a non-denominational Christian school and found there were more problems there than the Catholic school. All in all the best years my children had were for the most part spent in public schools. The thing to do if you can is home school. If you can't then be sure they are receiving a good biblical faith foundation at church in their classes and youth group meetings as well as at home.
  10. I have no suggestions... But I'm excited about you courting... So I'll just add.... Wheeeeeeeeeeee!! nebula, Just saw this after the "day" and just sayin.."Happy for you!" And adding that my man usually likes a gift of a sweater, shirt, or a book..
  11. When I vote it depends on the person who is running rather than one party or other. I will not vote for Obama although I will pray for him as long as he is in office simply because he is the president. I am hoping for a better candidate who has more experience and is able to make better decisions. And I am not sure who that will be yet.
  12. Praying for healing of any kind is always biblical. The main thing is to trust God for whatever He brings about and often that is not what we expect, in fact, sometimes it can be much more than we even anticipated. "...I am the Lord that healeth thee" (Exodus 15:26) "He sent his word, and healed them..." (Psalm 107:20) "But he was wounded for our transgressions..and with his stripes we are healed" (Isa. 53:5). "...And great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all" (Matt. 23:15) "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him...and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up..." (James 5:14, 15) "...Pray one for another, that you may be healed." (James 5:16)
  13. Most of my life I attended and participated in a Roman Catholic Church. Over a period of years I realized that I did not nor could agree with some of their doctines which were based on their traditions and papal mandates. I sought answers in the scriptures. I would have departed sooner than twelve years ago but my husband was not ready to do that yet. We are now both involved and continuing to grow in another denomination. Our main campus is large but we have some services in other locations in the city with smaller congregations. We are on the prayer team of one of the branches, thus a smaller congregation, with about 300 or so attending. Even though we are involved in leadership as part of this team neither one of us consider ourselves in a "box" so to speak. And we thank God that our church welcomes many and is open to what God is doing in other churches as well. You can check it out here: www.livingwater.com There are online services there with worship as well as the sermon each weekend as you will see on the website. We are also part of an interfaith intercessory prayer ministry where we pray weekly here at home for the various needs of our county. People of various Christian services are part of that. As others have said here..the answer isn't in a Church alone..but in finding Christ..in being committed to Him. In that the Holy Spirit will lead you into all truth and also to a church which is right for you. Focus on getting a relationship with Christ and count on being blessed and getting new insight into life as you grow in the knowledge of Jesus through the Word (Holy Bible). I would surely recommend a bible believing church. Always check out their statement of purpose which is usually available online. And if you start attending one and it doesn't seem right after giving it some time visit another. Sometimes it takes a while to find just the right "church home." peace and prayers for you.
  14. Ed, nicely put... Just adding: As for me, I am not into labels as such. It's not too long before I will have lived 3/4 of a century. Having seen many come to and go out of political power and having studied history (used to teach it)..I know that I would be sadly disappointed and uneasy if... my faith was based in the government alone (especially during these times) ..although I do pray for our leaders and take much interest in and care about what happens. My faith and hope is in the Lord who is sovereign. His kingdom come; His will be done..here and hereafter. Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
  15. So true! Likely that and not staying around to be informed, enlightened, or changed.
