  1. After reading all 7 pages a thought has occurred to me...would this same discussion be going on if we substituted adultery for homosexuality? What I mean to say is would there be any debate if we asked if a practicing adulterer should be baptized? Someone who refused to acknowledge that adultery was a sin and refused to stop committing adultery? Just a thought.
  2. After reading this thread the question comes to mind is that if this is not an issue of cultural context then how did Jesus wear His hair? Was it long or was it in a brush cut or perhaps a "do" like Elvis wore? And what about His clothing? Do you think perhaps He wore jeans and a t-shirt with a blazer or perhaps he wore a full suit with a vest and tie, mabe even a bow tie? mmm....curious minds want to know!
  3. Personally I am humble enough to hear God's truth regardless of who speaks it. After all even Balaam listened to a donkey! And no I am not calling us women donkeys! A female pastor may be a stumbling block for some and so in that case she should not be a Pastor there in order to not divide the church but if believers are will to accept the truth from her than she should stay. Everyone seems so bent on being right that no one is really interested in what is actually right. If it is God's truth, who am I to tell someone to stop? One last thing, on a bit of a side note (sorry addressing something someone said earlier in this discussion): I am told to submit to my husband, not ALL men.
  4. Amen!
  5. With this logic...What if one thinks about and looks upon abusing their spouse...Is this adultery and a reason to divorce? If one thinks about and looks upon abusing their spouse than they should run and not walk to get counciling and seek forgiveness and a change of heart. And yes they have committed a sin against God and their spouse (rage and violence is a sin). God looks at our hearts and where are hearts dwell so eventually will our actions. We are children of God. Do you think any father would approve of their child being beaten? I think not. Do you think same father would tell his daughter to stay and get beaten because divorce is worse? If your answer is yes, that is slavery. You are absolutely correct Fez! I would also like to point out that Jesus blasted those who used the letter of the law to justify their own sins - in this case trying to force a spouse to stay in an abusive relationship because of what Christ said about divorce.

  7. My favorite is when they put a "sale" price on an item if you buy more than one but it is cheaper if you buy just the one. example: Sale: buy 5 cans of beans for $5.00. Regular price: Buy one can of beans for $0.99 I have caught that a few times. I guess they figure that people will just see the yellow or red sale tag and grab it without looking at the pricing.
  8. That was the question I was going to ask GE. Because I believe that Jesus made it pretty clear that anyone who looks at someone else with lustful eyes is committing adultry. And we also know that adultry = idolatry in God's eyes. Now I may be wrong but I feel that if one spouse abuses his/her spouse than they have commiteed adultry by betraying their vows, that they have exchanged their love for their spouse for their love of violence, power or whatever else is driving them. Sorry I thought that I was the poster right after Golden Eagles remark. This is what he said: I have followed this thread with interest. I'd like to ask a question if I may: What if a Christian divorces an abusive spouse who also claim to be a "Christian"? God bless, GE Sorry about the mix up. It is late and now I haven't read the entire thread because I thought GE's was the last one. Just too tired right now to make sense I guess. Night all.
  9. I too am struggling with my health and am off of the forum for long periods of time. Sometimes I wonder if people think that I am a troll! It never occured to me to explain why I am absent for long periods of time. Thank you for your courage. I too am praying for healing for you.
  10. I agree with all of the comments above. In addition to this it is my understanding that no store carries more than three days of products now, in order to do this they use transit trucks a their "storage". In other words their stock is constantly on its way to the stores. The first time I heard this I didn't believe it so I researched it which confirmed it, still I was pretty skeptical but I have taken note while in the stores that while all of the shelves appear to be filled there are actually only a few items, sometimes 4 but usually less, behind the first one. I shudder to think of what would happen if there is an interuption in transportation.
  11. lol other one! My husband used to have similar views as your wife, but he is slowly coming around!
  12. I live in Canada (the part that gets brutally cold in the winter). We have horses (for pleasure), dogs (for protection and companionship) cats (rodent control and companionship) goats for meat and milk (well, eventually the milk), chickens (eggs and meat) and rabbits (meat) oh I guess I should include the goldfish but they are just for for the pond not meat!
  13. I'm not sure if the topic belongs here or not so please feel free to move it if needed. I have a fairly large garden and do a lot of canning ect. Some things did not produce this year like they normally do for me but still enough that we have not been buying veggies all summer but not enough to can or freeze most things. So anyway I was grocery shopping yesterday and really noticed that a lot of the products like canned veggies are very minimally stocked on the shelves and the prices are fairly high. I shop at wholesale stores as I like to buy bulk. I also noticed that many of the products that I buy are now packaged in much smaller containers or not carried at all. I was at two totally different wholesale places yesterday and noticed the same thing at both places. I have noticed this trend in regular grocery stores over the last couple of years but was completely taken by surprise yesterday at the wholesale places. Has anyone else noticed this?
