  1. I have studied Revelation somewhat in my life and I have reached very few conclusions beyond the one that for sure I know; that it was a coded message to the Christian Church as it underwent persecution in the late 1st century and early 2nd century. However the meaning of the prophecies embedded within it are difficult for me as when you study them you have to understand that time is a non-factor to God and those who have already died. For in God's onimpotence He sees past, present, and future all as one. So a chronological look at Revelation might not be possible for us. Is the thousand year reign the years of the gentile church? Possibly. Is it the reign of martyrs who have died? Possibly. Is it an allegory of the eternal reign of Christ that comes after Satan's final defeat? Possibly. There are many other explainations offered, but I do know for certain that it foretells the final defeat of sin and Satan and the establishment of a new Creation where all believers are restored to full communion with God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
  2. I would be interested in more people's impressions of the History Channel's series; "The Bible". I watched the first part of the first show but I turned it off when I saw the one angel smile and seemingly enjoy his slaughter of people in the scene from Sodom. I do not think that God takes pleasure in the killing of any, even the evil, and that angel seemed to gleefully take lives.
  3. All it takes to be a Christian is to believe in your heart and confess with your lips that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead. Wealth can be an idol or a tool with which to do ministry. Sometimes even in faithful Christian's lives wealth can at times become an idol, but forgiveness for those times is available.
  4. Anyone in America is rich by worldly standards. My wife and I have been blessed with financial security in our middle age. We try very hard to live a moderate lifestyle and always to share our Lord's generosity to us with others. We hope that we are teaching and have taught our children to do similar. Most even in America would consider us "wealthy". We have some "toys" that we purchased that we do use for ourselves but one of the reasons for purchasing them was to better our youth ministry in our church. So yes I believe that a person can be "wealthy" and still a Christian. Think also how many jobs a wealthy Christian who is an employer creates.
  5. Matthew 7:13,14 "Go ye in through the strait gate, because wide the gate, and broad the way that is leading to the destruction, and many are those going in through it; how strait the gate, and compressed the way that is leading to the life, and few are those finding it!" This is as close as I can get to a literal translation into English from the Greek. My understanding of these two passages is the same as yours and Chloe's. The Gate is Jesus Christ and the path through Him leads to salvation and the other to Hell. And yes Scripture teaches that all are given the chance of Salvation but that few will choose it over the world.
