  1. Thank you 19Duggarfan for the scripture verses you quoted. Here are two more. Col 1:19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, Col 2:9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, Therefore, It was not only Jesus who suffered the excruciating agony of death by crucifixion, but all three persons of the Trinity. Bless you. Edwin.
  2. shiloh357, you say. "He did not empty Himself of His deity". "the name that is above every name", can only apply to God who is of course divine. Now, how is it possible to give someone what they already have? Every blessing. Edwin.
  3. When Jesus said. Jhn 14:13 “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. He did not intend that you should always end your public prayers with, "These things we ask in Jesus name" Because in Hebrew, the expression, "In my name", means "Who I am, and what I stand for". What Jesus was really saying is, "When you pray, you must always do so havening in mind, just who I am, and what I stand for. Bless you.
  4. Thank you all for your comments which are much appreciated. My reason for starting this topic in the first place was to see if anyone else had arrived at the same opinion that I had. I thought that question No 2 might indicate just what it was of which He "emptied himself empty". Do you think it does, and if so. Just do you suppose it was? Bless you all. Edwin.
  5. I would like If I may to ask two further questions. This time in respect of the following verses. Philippians 2:5-9, (Holman Christian Standard Bible) 5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. a 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death—even to death on a cross. 9 For this reason God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, Footnote: a verse 6 Or to be grasped, or to be held on to Firstly in verse 7, the expression, "emptied himself ", if translated literally from the Greek, would read, "emptied himself empty", this is emphatic, that is to say totally, not partially, in other words, whatever it was Jesus emptied Himself of, it was, all of, not some of . What in your opinion was it of which Jesus ""emptied himself empty"? Secondly, in respect of verse 9. Just what is your understanding of "the name that is above every name"? Thank you. Edwin.
  6. Adam was 130 years old when seth was born. Gen 5:3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. We are not told just how old Adam and Eve were when Cain and Able were born, but if we speculate and say that Cain was an adult, say 30 years old. Then it would indicate that they must have been a 100 years old when they started to reproduce, and then only after the fall to fulfill what God commanded them to do immediately after He had created them. Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Gen 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Why, I wonder did it take them a 100 years before they obeyed His first command to them. Edwin.

Thank you other one for your post, you mention that, "Adam was 130 years old when seth was born". A question.

If Adam and Eve were the only humans God made, then where did Cain get his wife from? Gen 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, saying, "I have gotten a man with the help of the LORD." Gen 4:2 And again, she bore his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. Gen 4:16 Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, [fn] east of Eden. Gen 4:17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. 4:16) Nod means wandering Thank you. Edwin.
  9. Thank you Donibm for your question. Here for what it is worth is my understanding. --------------------------------------------------------------- A problem with time. Mat 12:40 For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. I believe that Jesus was crucified on Thursday, for the reasons given below. Our Lord Jesus said that he would be in the grave for 3 days & 3 nights ie 72 hours, however, the Gospel accounts indicate a period of only 37 hours at most. For 3 days and 3 nights, please read Matt Ch 12 v 40. The 37 hours or thereabouts is arrived at as follows. Read the four Resurrection accounts and you will find that our Lord rose from the dead at around dawn on the first day of the week i.e. 12 hours from the end of the Sabbath, then there are 24 hours during the Sabbath, and may be up to an hour on Friday. In that part of the world, and at that time of the year sunset, and sunrise were close to 6 pm and 6 am. Jesus was on the cross from 9 am to 3 pm. Now read John Ch 19 v 31. There was about 3 hours to take down his body, prepare it for burial, transport same to the tomb, replace the stone, and seal it. I hope this helps you to understand my reasoning. Allow me to suggest a possible solution.. First of all look at Exodus Ch 12 vs 1-20. and also Leviticus Ch 23 vs 4-8. Now what are the salient points. The Lamb is to be selected on the 10 th day, but not killed until the 14 th day, why 4 days?, answer later on. The Passover continues on into the Feast of unleavened bread which is a feast of 7 days duration, with a Sabbath at each end. Now what does this teach me about the week in which our Lord allowed himself to be killed. That there are 2 Sabbaths in this week, the Sabbaths are at the start, and finish ie the first, and last, the alpha, and omega. Speaking of the Lord God himself. What is leaven but a picture of sin, therefore no leaven indicates no sin, what is the duration of this feast, 7 days, what does 7 indicate, Divine perfection ie no sin.. So the lamb points forward to the time when the Lord God himself, who is sinless will lay down his life during a week which has 2 Sabbaths in it. Now let us see if the Gospel accounts indicate a 2nd Sabbath that week. Look first at John Ch 19 v 31. "For that Sabbath was a special Sabbath" why special?, could this suggest an additional Sabbath that week, well now look at Matt Ch 28 v 1. Here is a problem as most English translations read Sabbath, but have a look at the Greek text, and you will find that it is a plural noun ie Sabbaths, as is made clear with, Young's Literal Translation (YNG) Mat 28:1 And on the eve of the sabbaths, at the dawn, toward the first of the sabbaths, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre, | Now if we assume that Friday was the other Sabbath, and move the crucifixion back to Thursday, then we have 3 nights, but only some 61 hours, and still not 72 hours, however if you use Divine time measurement, and not human time measurement, ie "There was evening, and there was morning one day" and I can find 3 evenings, and 3 mornings then I will have 3 days. There is Thursday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday evening, Friday morning, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning 3 days. Now what about that 4 days I mentioned earlier, if our Lord was killed on Thursday, then what day is 4 days earlier?, Palm Sunday of course. The Triumphal Entry and what else was also happening on that same day, every family in the land was choosing the lamb to be killed, and now that Jesus had presented himself to the Leaders of the Nation they had four days in which to examine him to see if there was any blemish, or spot, and when they could find none, kill him. May the Lord bless you all ,and keep you safe. Edwin.
  10. Thank you to all three of you for your comments. Here for what it is worth is my understanding. Jesus in both cases is dealing with gentiles, and is showing us that they are capable of having more faith than Jews. But then how are we to know this? Well only as a result of how they react, to what He says to them, and although He deals with each in a totally different way, their response is the same, In fact His comments were. Matthew 8:10, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!". Mark 7:29, "For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter ". The centurion had great insight as can be seen when he said, The Mat 8:9 "For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." His words, "I also am a man under authority", clearly indicates that he knew that Jesus also had to do as He was instructed to do. This in fact is confirmed by Jesus at, Jhn 12:49 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment--what to say and what to speak. Jhn 12:50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me." And also by His Father, who said, Deu 18:18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. Deu 18:19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. Every blessing. Edwin.
  11. When our Lord Jesus was asked for help by a centurion, He said, Mat 8:7 And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal him." But when a Woman asked for help, He said, Mat 15:26 But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw [it] to the little dogs." Could someone please explain why? Thank you. Edwin.
  12. Thank you Both for your helpful answers. Edwin.
  13. Could you please reconcile the following. Exo 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. Mat 10:37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Thank you. Edwin.

    Help required.

Your help in resolving the following will be much appreciated. Rom 5:14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. In what way is Adam a type of Jesus? And what is your understanding of. 1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. How would Eve be saved though her childbearing? 1Ti 2:15 - but she will be saved through her child-bearing, if they continue in faith, love, and sanctification with sobriety. Thank you. Edwin.
  17. Thank you Pamelasv for your question. The following verses might be of help. Jhn 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Jhn 14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. Jhn 14:12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Jhn 14:13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Jhn 14:14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. Jhn 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Jhn 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, [fn] to be with you forever, Jhn 14:17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. Bless you. Edwin.
  18. Thank you Pamelasv For your comments. Perhaps the following will be of help. A universal problem with Christians is. How can I live the normal Christian life, as God wants me to ? The answer is to find out how Jesus as a "man" some 2000 years ago, lived a life that was well pleasing to His Father. It was not Jesus who performed the miracles, and preached the truth, but God the Father who dwelt inside Him (John Ch 14 v 10). Jesus did it this way, because it is the only way in which you and I can do it. Remember "Christ in you the hope of glory". When Jesus came to earth some 2000 years ago, He not only came to offer Himself as a sinless sacrifice to pay for our sins, and thus enable God to forgive as many as will accept this fact. But also to demonstrate by His life just how we humans were, and are intended by our Father God to behave towards the one who made us in His own image, and after His likeness, the Lord our God. By His life, I mean the attitude of, "Not My will, but thine be done", that Jesus continually adopted towards His Father, thus enabling the Father who indwelt the Son, to be both seen, and heard. The Father communicated Himself through the body of the man Jesus to all people with whom He came into contact at that time, and through Scripture now to us. This is the reason why you, if you are a Christian are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, in order that you might allow the other resident within yourself to have right of way in your life, and to do just what He wants to do in and through you. Apply that same method of, "Not My will, but thine be done", to yourself, and you will find out how to overcome the problem you have.. Now read Phil Ch 2 verses 5-13. Also in John's Gospel, Ch 1 v 18. Ch 5 verses 19, & 30. Ch 11 verses 41b & 42. Acts Ch 2 v 22, and best of all, John Ch 14 verses 9 & 10, Then ask yourself why is it that Jesus who is both God and man is doing things this way, and you will be told "Because it is the only way that you can do it". Jesus also said, Jhn 15:3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Jhn 15:4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. Jhn 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. Note "without Me you can do nothing" Why do you suppose that Paul said Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Phl 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain Col 1:27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which* is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Gal 4:19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you, There is only one person in this whole universe who can live the Christian life to perfection,,, that person lives inside you, and that's why Jesus said what He said at, Jhn 14:10 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Note: "the Father who dwells in Me does the works". Ask Him in prayer, why He did things this way, and He will tell you as He told me many years ago, "Because it's the only way you can do it". Every blessing. Edwin.
  19. Pamelasv. The two verses you quote must be read in context with the next two verses below, in order to be fully understood. Col 3:3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Col 3:4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Every blessing. Edwin.
  20. Further to the above, these additional verses may also be of help. Jhn 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. Jhn 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— Jhn 14:17 "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. Jhn 16:13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. Jhn 16:14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. Jhn 16:15 "All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. Jhn 16:16 "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father." Rom 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. Rom 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, Rom 8:17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Rom 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Bless you. Edwin.
  21. Thank you lovelylife22 for your topic, "Doing work for Christ". Allow me to point out that it is only Christ in you who does the work, as can be seen from the following verses. Jhn 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. Jhn 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. Welcome, and bless you. Edwin.
  22. Mat 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. Mar 12:25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. Luk 20:35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,
  23. OakWood. You ask, "At what point do we do it by ourselves?" If you are referring to leading a life well pleasing to the Lord, then the answer is, by yourself you cannot. However, the Holy Spirit who dwells within you can. But you must allow Him to do so, which is why Jesus said what He did in the following verses. Jhn 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing Jhn 5:19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. Jhn 5:30 "I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. Jhn 14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. May the Lord bless you. Edwin.
  24. You ask, "Will God forgive Satan?" No, He will not, as is made clear at, Rev 20:10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
  25. You ask, "Does salvation by grace alone mean everyone ever born is saved?" No, it does not, as the following verses make clear. Many are lost, few are saved. Mat 7:13 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy [fn] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. Mat 7:14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. ESV Footnotes: (7:13) Some manuscripts For the way is wide and easy
