  1. In context to the state of the 21st century believer I like to think about the possible effects of the materialism in the USA and all the other countries moving into the information age.
  2. I think nebula has brought up the crucial point of sin. What kinds of thought come into your mind during a lull in thnking. I have images come into my mind that are sinful from movies I have watched years ago. I've met people who think that what they think about all the time should be what they do. I believe if we didn't have a justice system in place there would be alot more murders because of movies because the movies sure do glorify violence.
  3. I remember being called to Jesus about ten years ago. I think we are called as Christians and it is an aided decision not totally made without help from the Holy Spirit. It was quite an amazing experience. I was working in a kitchen as a cook and really was an unhappy person, although I didn't want to come to Jesus just because I was unhappy. There was a sweet old Pentecostal sister who was the dishwasher at the time there and she used to witness to us all with great love. It was the love she displayed to us that drew me to commit my life to the Lord. I also remember being compelled by a an outside force to go pray with her that was the Holy Spirit, and I was baptised in the Spirit the next morning after dedicating my life to Jesus. Being baptised in the Holy Spirit was the best experience of my life as the peace I felt in contrast to the hopelessness I felt beforehand was amazing. I just knew that everything was going to be ok after that. So, I was compelled to become a Christian out of love. God Bless and much love in Christ
  4. Hi - I was talking with Shanzy and Michael D. yesterday trying to explain how God can predestine things and still grant us free-will. After thinking about it I have this: (Eph 1:3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, (Eph 1:4) even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love (Eph 1:5) he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, (Rom 8:29) For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. (Rom 8:30) And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. From these verses we can see that God definitely predestined who was to be called to Christ.... (Acts 4:27) for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, (Acts 4:28) to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. And from these verses it seems like God predestined a lot of general actions to take place apart from people being called to salvation... (Eph 1:11) In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, and from this verse we can see that God works ALL things according to the counsel of his will, but does that mean He predestined all things? And we all know(pretty sure but don't have any scripture right now) that God has given us free will to make conscious decisions(about most importantly to choose to serve Him). So I explained to my Mom tonight that man abuses his free will to commit evil acts and that explains why evil things happen in the World. So my question is this: Did God predestine all things that happen or just things that dealt with Jesus when He was incarnate and things that deal with people being called to the Lord? What all did God predestine? Any scripture to provide illumination on this topic would be greatly appreciated! God Bless and thank you in advance for your participation on this topic...
  5. So here in Matthew 5:27-30 it basically goes 1. Do not look(with your eye site I like to think) on women with lustful intent or you have committed adultery 2. If you can't control your eyes from looking upon a woman like that pluck it out or your hand should be chopped off if you can't stop sinning with it. 3. then it's better to enter life maimed than to be cast into hell. I ask presumptuously why would Jesus talk about sinning with your eyes and then suggest plucking them out in order to save oneself from hell? Also it is told somewhere in the epistles that we get a new spiritual body fit for eternity anyways. What do you think? p.s. I really think it would be good to do a blind man experiment like a band over the eyes if you have lustful gazing problems...
  6. 2Co 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 1Sa_10:6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. 1Sa_11:6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. Job 26:12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud. Job 26:13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent. Job 26:14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand? Psa_143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Pro_20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. Pro_15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. Luk_24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. Joh_4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Joh_14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Gal 5:17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Gal 5:18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, Gal 5:21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. So, from this small snippet we can see a bit of the image of the Father we can show the world. Gal 5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Joh 16:25 "I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father. Joh 16:26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; Joh 16:27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. Joh 16:28 I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father." And, in the future we will find out much more about the Father!! I hope this helps God Bless! Gal 5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Gal 5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. 1Pe_1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
  7. meditate on the meaning of scriptures, memorize scripture, praise Him continually throughout the day mentally, think about how to share the gospel with other people, train yourself to sense and block wicked thoughts from coming into your mind, be a thinker of other people before yourself type of person for Him, just a few things I could think of....Praise the Lord He is good!!!
  8. I don't know they post scripture on the fact that there are false doctrines, BUT when they post their own doctrine they post no scripture at all to back it up.....and if anybody can show me some scripture that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are no longer offered to prove that claim I'd love to see it....no opinion just scripture.
  9. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed [are] the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. Revelation 14:13 Precious in the sight of the LORD [is] the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18
  10. what a good story - I can't wait to tell my co-worker about this he will find it very interesting, and it also makes you think about all sin being equal in God's eyes Glory to Jesus Christ!
  11. First, welcome to Worthy. You will find that there are many here who have issues of some sort and are not treated any different. When you walk with the Lord, you show them love, as He loves them. Thank you OneLight
  12. Maybe we should have a public movement to describe what we mean by "New Testament" cause I would bet that most people wouldn't know. Shed a little light on the darkness. My first reaction to Adventures of Jesus and Friends was a good lol, but that would def make a good kid's book...
  13. 1st off let me say nice to meet you, 2nd im glad to see some one bring up this issue as most people hardly know anything about ment. illness i've seen mental illness run in my family and it's greatly misunderstood and often the sufferers are the subjects of cruel jokes and actions from other people. sadly to say sometime the church can make things worse by comments like "well they must be living in sin or they might be possesed" i sure know from personal experience and it aint fun. also the stigma that plagues mental illness patients doesnt help at all. i believe the church needs to get some proper training about this so it can be handled in a more godly way. i also suffer from p.t.s.d. and bipolar and it is hard, you just have to take it day by day. it's one thing to KNOW ABOUT something but a whole diffrent thing to have actual personal experience cause you live with it. nice to me you too
