  1. That's not so long ago, especially when it comes to two very similar circumstances. I think it's mostly just a continuation of his hypocrisy and narcissistic tendencies. He's doing the same things he whined about when Obama was President.
  2. "AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!" "The President must get Congressional approval before attacking Syria-big mistake if he does not!" -Trump when Obama was President
  3. So what do you believe about the other verses that do use to'evah?
  4. Can you explain why then there are Christians whose gender disphoria was not miraculously healed? Being saved doesn't mean that we will be cured of all illnesses. I don't have much interest in writing something that's probably going to be removed. The last time I shared a link (which offered both conservative and liberal interpretations), the entire thread was moved to a forum I can't access, and my requests for access were ignored. It's a difference in translation. Switching out the terms does not change the meaning of my post. Lack of self control has nothing to do with this. Trans people can't magically prevent themselves from getting gender disphoria. One man and one woman, just like all those examples given to us in the Old Testament with godly men having multiple wives? There are people who are born with both male and female genitalia, and even with mixed XX/XY DNA. Do you think God made a mistake when they were created? So far the issue of transgenderism mostly seems to bother religious conservatives. The trans people are pretty happy unless they get assaulted, fired, raped, murdered, or discriminated against.
  5. Do you know what else is abominable? Wearing clothing of mixed fabrics and eating shellfish.
  6. The 'abomination' is recongnized as appropriate medical care by every major psychological association. Therapy alone does not make gender disphoria go away.
  7. That depends on whether or not I will be banned if I do, and if I can use the sources I want to without them being removed.
  8. The thing is, it's very unlikely you're going to be able to have any meaningful dialogue if you won't even call them by their name. There are a lot of things that aren't talked about in scripture. Do you think God is angry at schizophrenic people who get treatment? If being transgender really is a mental illness, why would getting the appropriate treatment be different?
  9. I don't believe trans people go to Hell. Disagreeing with the conservative mindset here in instances like this isn't looked upon favorably, so I'm not going to elaborate. Again, the act of being transgender is not a mental illness. Gender disphoria, the issue that causes trans people to transition, is considered a mental disorder.
  10. What do you think God will say to deaf people who get cochlear implants? They are changing a disability they were born with.
  11. Calling them by their dead name is just going to make them turn off of your message entirely. Jesus'a first words to the Samaritan woman weren't "you are a horrible sinner who will burn in hell." Regardless of how it's intended, trans people perceive this as hatred against them and frequently leave Christianity altogether. Have you ever experienced gender disphoria? It's a physiological problem, and the best means we have to treat it are physical. Telling trans people to just seek the Gospel is like telling a cancer patient to abandon their treatment and just accept the Gospel.
  12. Gender disphoria is classified as a mental disorder, but being transgendered is not a mental disorder or illness, according to every major US psychological organization. I feel sorry for them too, so I'm glad we can at least sympathize with their difficult situation. It's also good we can both condemn the high rates of assault against trans people. As I noted earlier, sexual and physical assault are the leading causes of attempted suicide among the trans population. I understand your desire for people to use the bathroom that corresponds with their anatomy, but how does that work in practice? A trans person could be on a wait list for SRS and outwardly pass as a man, for example, so using the women's restroom would probably freak people out, not to mention make the trans person feel incredibly uncomfortable. And although rare, there are intersex people who were born with both sets of genitalia, so sorting people into bathrooms by anatomy definitely wouldn't work for them. Finally, how would the anatomy rule be enforced? Post a guard at the bathroom door to check?
  13. The first step in loving them is calling them by the names they prefer. You're right in saying that many trans people commit suicide, but I think you've been misled about the cause. According to the National Transgender Discriminstion Survey, 41% of trans people have attempted suicide. The leading causes are sexual assault, physical assault, harassment in school, and job loss due to bias. 1 in 5 trans kids suffer abuse from their own families due to their gender identity. The best ways to reduce suicide rates among trans people are familial acceptance and physical transition, to lessen or get rid of the disphoria.
  14. Well, I'm a born again Christian, and I hold an opinion that's different than yours. There's a fairly wide variety of surgeries trans people can pursue, many of which deal with feminization or masculinization of the face, chest reduction/augmentation, and of course SRS or sex reassignment surgery, which is what people usually associate with trans people. These surgeries cost thousands of dollars, and they can be difficult to afford, especially since trans people are more likely to be homeless and often deal with discrimination in the workplace, even to the point of being fired for no reason other than being transgender. SRS is the most expensive, costing about $20,000 for the hospital, anesthesia, and surgery. It's also difficult to get, since trans people must show two letters from licensed therapists proving they are experiencing gender disphoria and that the surgery would improve their quality of life. On top of this, they must also show they've been taking the appropriate hormones for the gender they're transitioning to. Finally, there are very few doctors able and willing to perform SRS, and I've been told the waiting lists can be years long. SRS is a very personal decision, and whether or not a person gets it is dependent on their health, finances, and experience with gender disphoria. Some people are affected more by their outward presentation and don't care as much about SRS. Others want to get it but can't afford to. Overall, it's something that's up to the individual, and really doesn't have to be our concern, unless we're that person's doctor or significant other.
  15. Or maybe trans people just want to use the bathroom for their gender without being harassed or assaulted? Most of them are just normal people with the same basic needs and desires as everyone else. It's not some nefarious scheme like this book author is making it out to be.
  16. In any case, Flynn's request for immunity was rejected (at least for the time being). We'll have to wait to see how far this goes.
  17. As another Christian on the left, I can confirm this.
  18. Frankly, if California seceded and successfully became an independent nation, I'd strongly consider moving there, but it would be better to keep the US intact.
  19. I guarantee you the vast majority of Californians don't want to secede. It would also be a pretty major loss to the rest of the US. That's a lot of missing tax revenue.
  20. Same here. Splitting California could definitely benefit Republicans, however, depending on the new borders. It would be gerrymandering on steroids.
  21. It certainly looks like he's sarcastic and immature, but he's definitely not representative of all academia. If my personal experience counts for anything, I never saw this kind of thing from professors when I was in college. I think it's okay to be angered by such things, but the goal should be to use the anger productively and not let it become hatred.
  22. It looks like the professor made a stupid sarcastic tweet and then dug himself deeper into a hole with his later remarks. A lot of neo-nazis think of interracial marriage, increasing number of mixed-race people, and immigration as "white genocide," and sometimes other people use that term sarcastically to mock them. The university said that it supports free speech but condemns the tweet and plans to meet with the professor, which seems like an appropriate response.
