There is a 60-70 percent chance I may try and build a desktop computer running Linux within about 2 months, and I'm not opposed to parts lists or advice. I think it is cool to involve forum members a bit more in my life and decisions. All I can do is thank you for your time and advice and if I go through with it, provide pictures of the finished build. I think I want to build a Ryzen 2400G computer with integrated graphics, a nice Gigabyte motherboard, 8 to 16GB RAM, a 250GB high end SATA SSD for storage, mini ITX or micro ATX, and a good power supply since I don't skimp there. If you don't think I should get a Ryzen 2400G, please let me know why, and also tell me what CPU/video card you would recommend. I won't accept any CPU less powerful than a Ryzen 2400G in this build. Productivity apps get demanding these days. I had an i3-7100 and it was not fast enough. I will be gaming at 1920x1080 because lower resolution monitors are just going out of style. 8GB or 16GB RAM as well? @The_Patriot2018 @Big_Pete

What if I want to say, compile for 8 hours a day, 4 days a week, for a week or two, twice or more a year?

    I sorted the issue out:

I'll more than consider it and think about what you said. Maybe I will overclock it when it gets old though.

Wow. That sounds just like when I was debating whether to lift an 80-100 pound old TV. I moved it and did not get hurt.

Okay so I am going to go MicroATX since I simply can't think of a compelling enough reason not to. I have been thinking more, and most of my Productivity apps... just don't seem to make all that much difference when Multithreading is brought in. What if I even toned back to a 2200G? The reason why is simple... I actually also want the computer to have fantastic cooling and quiet noise. And that costs money. As a result, I would have to cut back. Now when you are pairing special coolers... You don't really want a dedicated graphics card, because then you often want to do something special for that too. If you are going the nine yards. So that throws out that argument. I also think it would be best if I don't overclock, anymore. Even if I buy fancy cooling that allows it. I am still open to the 2400G though. I would just need to crunch some numbers concerning the budget first.

If you guys aren't tired of this thread yet... I have some interesting new ideas.

Eh something like that. I just need to create some charts with pictures and examples, the next time I want to talk complex. Because I just can't word intricate details right.

What it comes down to, is that Patriot can explain things WAY better than I can. And that will probably always be the case.
  12. I have been dedicating more serious hours to the Lord these past couple and I am feeling really good now. I have had a chance to reflect on some things. I am not accustomed to feeling this good though. Okay now for the question. Is it normal for a Christian to have a great sense of peace like I am feeling right now? Or do you think I am allowing myself to be too positive to the extent that my emotions will get all bottled up? I will rephrase the question. Is it normal for a Christian to have a great sense of peace? Even when their actual life can be a little tough?

I guess "cool" is subjective though. If something can run say up to 100C, and it runs 80C... that is "cool" to me.

Yeah. I had a chance to run Mac Minis, etc with Iris graphics. Things stayed cool and quiet. It's the only reason I might like integrated graphics today.

I tend to take things more extreme than even Battlefield, but more in the CPU sense than some demanding game. In time you'll learn that I can often discern things like even microstuttering, it seems, and the whole subject of all of these things just fascinates me! I need to be more open about the tests that I've done and what I've learned, but it will probably only reach an audience of 2 people LOL. Just don't ask me to set up or fix a printer - those things always frustrate me so bad!

Yeah what I was trying to say was, yes the dedicated card gives you more RAM. Believe it or not, there are teenagers online that will say it DOESN'T on other websites. But my tests have shown it does seem to be the case.

I should. I swear my writing skills since I developed schizophrenia, will be the death of me. If I was arguing that integrated gives you more RAM, that would be soooo stupid - a huge step back from my years of benchmarking. I'm sorry.

    Snow!

I'm not snowed in. But it's 11 degrees, snow is still on the ground, and the roads are too icey for my taste.

Here is the real interesting thing. Since video RAM is shared on the normal RAM on integrated graphics... In a way, 8GB RAM and a 4GB dedicated graphics card... is almost, to an extent, like having 12GB RAM and integrated. I know this thread was to help me... but I am just sharing with you guys as we progress. I guess what I want to know is, if you have the time and patience to share... say I did not go with Ryzen 2400G. What normal CPU/GPU should I consider?

I've been thinking it over and $600 like I posted on the list, doesn't really buy a lot. I will make my budget $650-$700 to assure quality. In such a case, should I still stick with the 2400G?

Thank you. I can also post an "Example parts list", made by me, if it makes things easier. In fact, I might do that if I get around to it.

    Quick question for Christians

I forgot to mention that I am also a programmer. I like Nintendo games. But I think I am a bit too focused on Nintendo and Sega for the most part. I need to branch out a bit more video game wise. I am all about 80s and even early 90s culture as a person. Nintendo and Sega just happen to get thrown in. Some day, there is the chance I will build an arcade machine using one of those new "Classic" systems produced by Nintendo or Sony. If I do, I will create a thread with pictures and everything. Or maybe I should keep it simpler and choose a smaller project.

    Quick question for Christians

@Big_Pete Thanks for the wisdom and the poem. And yes I do. I am a writer, a poet, an IT Guy/computer benchmarker, an artist, a gamer... and probably a few other things.
