John 3:16 provides the response to the gospel (trust Jesus for eternal life) AND assurance (whoever trusts today will never in the future perish).

No one is perfect and only perfect people can live in a utopia, so God was born on Earth, perfect, to die and rise to switch places with us/pay for our sin. Trust Jesus today for eternal life, He will perfect you at the Rapture so you can enter Heaven.

There are verses on stopping the argument when the person is being difficult. There are other verses on debating the facts and fighting for the faith. I avoid most arguments by trumping them all this way, "Only perfect people go to Heaven." Most (challenging) arguments extol the goodness of the unsaved.

Did the people of the NT have to deal with false teachers and bad doctrine, in abundance? Did the NT writers warn those to come they'd face the same challenges? Do all Christians interpret all of the Bible the same way?
