  1. I love memorizing favorite passages of scripture when I find ones that really apply to something in my life. I encourage others to memorize verses you run across in your bible reading that have meaning for you. When you memorize scripture, God is able to bring it to mind and help you stay on the right path. For instance: some of my favorites: Proverbs 3:5 & 6, Psalm 37:4, Matthew 6:33, Philippians 4: 6 & 7. There are many, many more. I encourage you to read the bible through to get a good overall understanding of what God's purposes are. If you read about 20 chapters a day you can get through it in 4 months. If you read about 4 chapters a day, it will take about a year to get through it.....still worth it to take longer. What do you think?
  2. My favorite is Elisha who asked Elijah for a double portion of power from God. As far as a woman, I loved reading about Naomi and how she encouraged Ruth to make herself known to Boaz. They ended up being grandparents to David.
  3. Hey @Abby-Joy I plan to go through the list of verses you have on your signature so I can get to know you better :). It's wonderful to finally meet you.
  4. Becky, Thank you for the warm welcome. Since I have in my ancestry, some Scot, I feel close to the Scottish people. My dad said we were a dukes mixture.....Irish, English, Scot and Dutch. Both of my parents have ancestors from these countries. I did manage to make a trip to Ireland with a group of singers. As a chorus, we sang in Saint Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. I would very much like to visit Scotland one day.
  5. I also am looking forward to talking to you. Thanks for making me feel welcome. Matthew 6:33 is another of my favorite scriptures. I think my first verse to memorize as a child was John 3:16. I have many more that I will share with you later.
  6. Thank you for the kind welcome. I think the whole coastal area where I live is beautiful. I visited Ireland a few years ago and marveled at the similarities between Ireland and where I live. I pray that God will bless you also.
  7. I heard that you recently lost your mom. In 1991 I lost my mom and in 1992 I lost my dad. I know how you feel. It's odd but it seems that no matter how old you are when parents go home to the Lord, it makes you feel like an orphan. I still miss some things about my mom even to this day. She was the wisest person I have ever known.
  8. Hi, It's me again. I can't wait to share some things that I think are so important to each of us as Christians. I found that if I pretty much stay in the Word (trying to get through it once a year), that it helps in my Christian walk. Another thing I think God guided me to was memorizing scripture. My favorite verses are found in Proverbs 3:5 & 6. I mentioned that to a friend of mine recently and she said, "Oh, that's my favorite verses also....she said she liked it best in KJV. Since I started memorizing scripture years ago, all my memory verses are from the KJV . I'm not against the other versions, I think it might be confusing to me to try to learn the scriptures in several different versions. I have a new KJV and an NIV and an American Standard version. My son and I share a Strong's Concordance.
  9. I think I have to do this 2 or 3 times so I might as well get my second post made.
  10. Hi, I'm new at this so your patience would be appreciated. I am elderly and not always able to do what I want on the computer....hopefully just using it will help me learn. I live in an area that I used to come to for summer camp. I live in a coastal area in California and generally our weather is wonderful. I'm a grandmother and I will update my profile as we go along. Looking forward to chatting with you all.
