  1. My motto always is: The more time you spend in the Word, the more you know what's NOT in the Word. Whenever I'm faced with confusion - I spend ALOT more time in the Word and then things become much clearer. Remember God is not the author of confusion. When you know "the real deal" thouroughly, you can spot "a fake" instantly. For example: My brother is in the banking industry and he once explained to me how they train personnel to spot counterfeit money. The trick was not figuring out all the ways people could counterfeit but rather they spent ALOT of time observing what real money looks like - all of it's details. He said that after spending all that time looking at real money he could easily spot a fake no matter the method used to produce it or how "real" it looked. I asked him if he thought it would be easier and less time consuming to just have a list available of what kinds of things to look for on counterfeits. He said that although he spent a great deal of time learning about the real money it actually saved time (and was easier) in the long run because he didn't have to keep a running checklist in his head (or on paper) everytime he was handed money. He could just look at it and "know" whether it was real or fake. Besides, he said, people are always looking for new ways to counterfeit and it would be tedious to try to keep up with them all. So I guess I wrote all this to say that the more you know God's Word, the easier it is to spot man's word.
  2. Rom 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; (KJV) 1 Pet 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (KJV) I have found that the more time I spend in prayer for my DH the sweeter he gets I use to feel that I had to nag a lot but now I try to voice my concerns to the Lord first and He does a better job than I ever could in softening my DH. Now, our marriage is much more peaceful, and dare I say romantic If you need inspiration for your prayers try the book "The Power of a Praying Husband" by Stormy Omartin. There are specific prayers in there to get you started. I have found prayer to be the MOST effective thing in improving our marriage.
  3. You can bind yourself with all kinds of religious laws but it's to no avail if you don't have Jesus in your heart. Edit: oops, sorry, I posted this in the wrong thread. I meant to post this in the "should women wear dresses all the time thread".
  4. Are you saying that you personally think Christians are the scum of the earth or are you saying that's how the world see Christians? I'm just not getting the purpose of the OP.
  5. Christmas music better than any other music. Mostly I like the traditional Christmas songs...my favorites are: The First Noel and The Little Drummer Boy My DS likes Rudolph, Jingle Bells, and Frosty.
  6. While I'll agree that cord blood stem cell research does not directly involve the ethical disputes that embrionic stem cell research involves... to say emphatically that there is NO ethical dimension is not correct. For instance: what is to keep people from performing abortions solely to obtain cord blood? Now, that may seem like a pessimistic question but I do think it needs to be asked.

Remember, we are commanded to watch: Luke 12:37-40 37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when He cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that Hhe shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them. 38 And if He shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants. Jesus held the Jews accountable for not knowing what to watch for at His first coming: Matt 21:38-45 42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? 43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. (KJV) Luke 13:34 34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! (KJV) Luke 19:42 42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. (KJV) So, what are we watching for? Signs that His coming is drawing near (even though we don't know when it will be, we are still held accountable to watch if we are wise servants): Matt 24:1-50 1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. 27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. 45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (KJV)
  11. 3. What is the church? What the Bible has to say about the Church (Ephesians 1:10,22-23 KJV) (10) That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him: (22) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave Him to be the headover all things to the church, (23) Which is His body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. (Colossians 1:13,18 KJV) (13) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (18) And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence. (Ephesians 2:20-22 KJV) (20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; (21) In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: (22) In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:23-27,29 KJV) [The Church is the Bride of Christ] (23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. (24) Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so {let} the wives {be} to their own husbands in every thing. (25) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; (26) That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (27) That He might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (29) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church (Colossians 2:10,19 KJV) (10) And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (19) And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God. (Romans 12:4-5 KJV) (4) For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: (5) So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. (1 Corinthians 12:12-28 KJV) (12) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. (13) For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. (14) For the body is not one member, but many. (15) If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? (16) And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? (17) If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? (18) But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. (19) And if they were all one member, where were the body? (20) But now are they many members, yet but one body. (21) And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. (22) Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: (23) And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. (24) For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: (25) That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. [/color](26) And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. (27) Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. (28) And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (Acts 2:41-47 KJV) (41) Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. (42) And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. (43) And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. (44) And all that believed were together, and had all things common; (45) And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (46) And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, (47) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. 4. What role does the church play in the believer

Here are my favorite verses that speak of Jesus as our Creator: John 1:3 3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. (KJV) Col 1:16-17 16 For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: 17 And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. (KJV)
  13. Hey guess what? Our state supreme court says Nader can be on the ballot here in Arkansas. Besides Greens, many Republicans (and NO Democrats) had supported Nader's right to be on the ballot. The Democrats here are furious because they feel he will steal votes from Kerry. Guess we know how Democrats really feel about "freedom of choice"!
  14. Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states: "No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..." My question is: If this is how Kerry complies with the NEGOTIATED rules of a debate, how will he comply with NEGOTIATED treaties he may make with other countries?
