  1. I was following Randal and Vicki Baer very closely in the year prior to Randal's death. I was a "student" in one of the last of Randal's "spiritual science" teaching programs in Hot Springs AR. Randal claimed to be in contact with beings not of our world. His "wife" Vicki acted as a channeler, and I was present when she did such channelling. Randall was working on a new book that was said to include plans of some some sort from these beings from another world when suddenly he had a change of mind and attempted to start some kind of Christian cult, encouraging his many followers to do a complete about turn and return to his form of Christianity, which included telling women how to dress and couples how to have sex, what to and not to do. He lost a lot of followers that summer and some very strange things happened. I was pretty much there when it went down and was following him and his group as a complete skeptic. I had friends who were not skeptics, however, and from them I heard Randall had simply died in a car accident. I have a number of reasons for doubting this but nothing substantive, purely intuition. So yes, I met Randal personally on a number of occassions and was very close to a few people who were his closest associates. I was concerned about them, to be honest, these were two young women working for Randal and I felt they were being misled. If you would like to contact me about this please do. There is a lot more to this story than I care to go into on a public forum of any sort. Good day to you. Vik: thank you for replying to my thread. i tried to send you a pm but worthy boards wouldn't let me. so if you want to, would you send me an email at srvfan123@hotmail.com ? thanks for your time. i'm bumping this to the top, in case anybody who is new knows anything...
  2. 86 AD! man, if they can find some way to prove it, that would be so excellent!
  3. Good teaching! i have nothing to add.
  4. by the assessment of a silly, deluded, and rebellious man. may the Lord teach him the error of his ways.
  5. "the new faith was necessary because the old faith no longer worked." the Old Faith seems to working wonderfully, for me, anyway.
  6. "lectures to professing Christians" by Charles Finney - a very challenging and very worthwhile book. i highly recommend it.
  7. one general rule of thumb: if it's ME in jail, 100% of the time... lol, ok, i know it's a serious question, sorry. there isn't any hard fast rule you can apply to this question. i have a sister who has been in trouble with the law several times and my father has bailed her out, but he says that he will not do it again. i have an uncle who has been locked up any number of times in his life for child support, drunkeness, etc. someone in the family always bails him out. he's close to 60 yrs old now, i don't know if sitting in jail would have made him grow up or not. no easy answer to the question. if someone is in jail swearing up and down that they are going to "Straighten somebody out" when they get out, i wouldn't bail them out.
  8. David: i was a prison guard for over 8 years and i got saved while i worked there. i was in a strange position for ministry, in that there was a limit to how much i could help anyone and also, i was a brand new Christian. so i didn't do alot of ministry beyond prayer and encouragement. but an inmate told me something once that might be worth knowing: he told me that alot of guys, when they 1st get locked up, read the Bible alot because it makes them feel better but that they never really put it in practice and when they get out, they leave their Bible behind in prison. Basically, they try to be Chrisitians when they're locked up and forget about it when they get out. so, if i were involved in prison ministry, this would be something i would try to address. i want to say to you that you have all my respect for what you do, God bless you. "I was in prison and you remembered me." in the institution that i worked, even hard men had respect and love for those who took the trouble to try to help them in ministry. they really appreciated it. God bless you.
  9. ok, the debate over socialism can go on forever. but here's what interests me and hasn't been addressed: how do you feel about Newsweek declaring the USA to be a socialist nation? are they the ones who decide that we are? have we become socialist because they have made this declaration? looks like a heck of a step, to me, for a mere magazine.
  10. right on, Yesult. i praise God for your discernment. the shack is POISON.
  11. here is a quote from "the Shack": "Those who love me come from every system that exists. They were Buddhists or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims.... I have no desire to make them Christian, but I do want to join them in their transformation into sons and daughters of my Papa, into my brothers and sisters" you guys find nothing wrong with this? you see no contradiction with the Bible in that statement? "Every system" doesn't ring any kind of bell with you guys? this book is decieving new-age trash. just because it gives you warm fuzzy feelings doesn't make it good.
