  1. Yes, Eccl is saying that personal effort is necessary for salvation and anyone who is trusting in their efforts and hard work to earn them a place in heaven will be sorely disappointed. The Sermon On the Mount is the cornerstone of Christian faith and practice. The "Poor in Spirit" are those who recognize their need for Christ. They are those who, instead of relying on their own merit or efforts recognize they are spiritually "poor" and trust in the Lord for salvation. The same goes for those who are meek. Meekness is rooted in faith and trust. That is a major misreading of the beatitudes. The beatitudes are about Christian actions. Putting faith to work is necessary for salvation. Matt 5 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. 21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. Here's the conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount: 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” But he does not mention this is about salvation.
  2. It depends on the judgement you recieve. The Great White Throne is reserved for the unrepentant. If your name is in the Book of Life, you are then at the Judgement seat of Christ, where "rewards" are handed out to those that qualify for them. Our actions will be judged on basis of our intentions. At least that is how I understand Matt. 25:31-46. Does not sound like a very fair God...to have TWO criteria's for salvation now does it? . Rewards apart from salvation, I believe is what he is speaking of. Extra rewards in heaven for a job well done. This apart from the free gift of salvation.
  3. To save typing here is a reply to the same question I posted on another thread. But how do we show that we have accepted the grace by faith? By our works, we show it. Its interesting as in Hebrews 11 shows, they had faith, and they showed it through there works. This story shows the point very clearly. You see simple belief is one thing, but true faith, is stepping out, and trusting God to carry you across. The works is getting up on the shoulders proving that you trust him. You are right, simple belief does not save you, but having faith enough to get on Gods shoulders and letting him carry you does. In a nutshell it is this. Faith is more then simple belief, they are different. Faith believes yes, however it is belief put into action. You see stating that you have faith, and not showing it, not stepping up on the shoulders of the tightrope walker shows your faith to be dead. However, once you take the step of faith, you allow faith and grace to carry you over, you do nothing else. You do not do any work in and of yourself to make it across the rope. You see we, like Abraham are justified by faith. Not by works. The Justification comes from the faith. The works are the outpouring and the showing of faith. You get works from faith. You do not get faith from works.
  4. Sin, which is something you do, can destroy your faith. Right? Where does it say that sin, in and of itself destroys your faith? There are many who are outwardly righteous that will not make it, and there are many who are not so outwardly righteous that will. The word says that nothing can separate us from the Love of Christ. Nothing. Now if you are speaking of turning your back on Christ and fully rejecting him, then yes, that is a sin that can cause you to lose your faith. However, if a person is a drug addict and gets saved but dies before he beats his addiction, would they be saved, as they are living in sin, but fighting against it? I don't think the bible actually says that. But sin is like a cancer which if not treated will continue to consume more and more of that which is good. Thereby destroying our faith in Christ. our need for Christ and our desire for Christ. However when scripture says that "a little leaven, will leaven the whole lump" it is talking about the contamination of the whole lump by just a little bit of sin which means that a little bit of unrepented sin that goes untreated or unrepented from will destroy our individual salvation. Yes and the leaven is speaking of a sinful person affecting the rest of the Church body. We all have some sin, however a single sin does not separate us. As I stated, rejecting the cross is the only thing I know of that will separate you. You can not say fall into lust, and be separated. However if you make lust a lifestyle, and do so while fully rejecting the cross then it will become your god and not Jesus. I see the difference as this. Falling down, vs, jumping down into the mud and throwing a temper tantrum and refusing to get up, but even then, salvation is not about works, nor do I believe it is predestined like many osas people claim. However I don't belive that if you chose give into temptation, and die right then that is a loss of salvation. You see the dangerous part is this, this puts us in a position as it puts us into the spot of judging peoples salvation.
  5. There are several problems with what you have posted. For one thing, you claim that eternal life is a reward that we must earn/win. But that is not what the Bible says. The Bible says that eternal life is a free gift. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23) The second problem is that you misreprsent the point that Paul is making in Rom. 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? (Rom 6:1-2) Paul's point makes the exact point I was making; that a sincere believer isn't living in sin or returning to a sinful life. A sincere believer has a heart to serve God. Thirdly, you insist that eternal security and OSAS are the same but they are not. OSAS is a perversion of Eternal Security A peson who has authentic profession of faith in Christ is eternally secure in the knowledge that God is not going to rescind the plan of salvation and take away the salvatoin He promised. It has nothing to do with thinking you can live any way you want. That is the perversion that OSAS speaks to. Aw c'mon Massorite, can't you come up with a better personal attack than that? The problem is that you cannot build a biblical case for that position. In fact, you have to rely solely human reasoning and logic to arrive at the notion that what God says is a gift, is really a reward that has to be earned. Sorry to disappoint but it wasn't a personal attack. It was an observation. Yes, that was a personal attack. Calling a fellow christian a witch, and stating that they are performing witchcraft is a personal attack. This thread is getting heated, Everyone lets remember, Debate the subject not the person. If it keeps getting personal I will shut it down.

  7. Also there is strong archaeological evidence that Allah is a moon god and the whole religion is a resurrection of the moon god cult. http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/moongod.htm Jiggers are you a Muslim?
  8. I don't think anyone has called into question his salvation, so far only his message, which from everything I have ever seen is not about God so much as what resembles pop psychology self help mantra. You feel good you are good, you can do it stuff. Not much of the Cross being taught.
  9. I met Pen once, and briefly, he is a huge man himself! I shook his hand and I could not see my hand. So for him to be talking about that guy being big, he must have been a big dude. He is a very nice guy and I do have hope that he comes to know the Lord, but what he says is powerful!
  10. So you're not OK with peacemaking. Hmmm..... When I have to make a deal with the devil to make peace, nope. Show me once where Christ made a deal with the devil and I will follow His example. Is your one light from an angel of Light? Why can't you make any legitimate points? Perhaps your Father prevents you. Because of the personal attacks, I am giving this thread a 3 days rest.
  11. It was an across the board cut, not just for the upper brackets, that is simply not true. It was the same percentage cut, and of course its a larger dollar amount at a higher bracket but its still the same percent. It was never a "Tax Cut for the Rich" Also, Spending needs to be cut, majorly. However, we need to research other sources of revenue such as selling things. If this was a household budget we would need to do what I did, and that is sell everything not nailed down. Another source of revenue, is the people who are not paying taxes that are owed. Many many people have not paid the taxes they are owed and they are not paying. There are untapped millions there for instance. Again cutting spending is the major issue, one that people fight over as no one wants to cut there own pet projects and that is on both sides of the board.
  12. First of all, that's a can of worms question, and many opinions on many sides of the fence. Try checking out this forum, which I am moving this thread to as its better covered there. http://www.worthychristianforums.com/index.php?/forum/10-eschatology/
  13. To whom do you address this question? And I am not sure I understand exactly what you are asking. Sorry. That was to Dare to speak. Who is now gone so at this time the point is moot.
  14. His ways are not our ways (Is 55:8). The poor you will always have with you (Mt 26:11). There will always be poor people in the land (Dt 15:11). Likely... I think you are missing the point. Point is that many people complain about God not doing these things when they do not do it themselves. Are you missing my point?
  15. Thanks! Can we petition them to start a thread? I have several topics that would best be approached as a study group rather than a tat for tat debate / discussion... okay for everyone, If you need the password to a password protected forum, you need to ask one of the persons listed under that board, no one else is allowed to give it out! Thanks.
  16. Okay folks a quick reminder.... Remember when it comes to politics there are strong opinions on every issue. However, I would say a lot of political viewpoints are driven by emotion. You are going to disagree with someone at some point in time politically. If you don't like the opinion of someone, you do not have to comment. Something I am still learning. So if you can not take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. If you can not handle the opposing viewpoints and do not want to be debated on it, then do not join in on threads where you know you will simply get upset. Remember this. We are to be Christians and Christ Like first and foremost. If you can not be that way and be in political forums, then please stay out. Yes this site has more conservatives then it does liberals. Yes, one or two people here with strong conservative viewpoints come across harshly and when they do they are dealt with. However, Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Moderate, or Conservative, or what ever mix you are, as long as you love Christ, then you are welcome here. Lets be careful not to paint everyone with a brush other then that. Please do not step into the personal realms of attack. Debate issues not people, and in politics this is very hard to do, and I have been guilty of failing at this myself before. Since this thread is getting heated up I am going to set it on ice for a bit to cool off. Closed for two days.

  18. First off I am praying. Second off is this. He does not love us because of who we are. He loves us because of who HE is. He loved you and knew you as he or even before he created the earth. He knew the suffering he would suffer on the cross for you, before you were born, and yet, he loved you so much he chose to do it to bring you into you eternal relationship with him.
  19. Praying. Its hard I know the feeling do to some issues with my home church before, then I moved to a different country and still have not found a home church . Fortunately I have found a good place to fellowship, that has kept me going and growing. That is her at worthy!
  20. This is a restarting word for word of another thread. Closed.
