  1. Hey Isaiah, this has become an interesting question for me, because what you're saying is what I'd always heard until I looked into it a little closer lately and found something that possibly complicates that assessment. Even in the link you submitted it states "while the name of the Moon-god was Sin, his title was al-ilah, i.e. "the deity"". The title 'Allah' supposedly means the most high god, similar to the phrase used by the Hellenists in relation to Zeus/Jupiter, which is language very similar to that used in the Bible "God Most High" (Genesis 14:20). So, if the moon god that predated Muhammad had a different name (Hubal) then is it accurate to suggest that it's title of primacy among gods is different than the title of the Most High God as seen in the first Century Roman Empire: "These men are servants of the Most High God" (Acts 16:17)? Ohh I missed that thanks for the heads up.
  2. As I was going through my Bible reading, I found reference to the gatekeepers, and noticed they were Levites with a little bit of there job duties. However I was wondering why the position was held in high importance and why it was a job of the Levites, the tribe chosen to serve the Lord in the temple. I was also wondering if there is a prophetic type and shadow of Christ or the church in the position? Thanks, just curious.
  3. Yes. It is an appeal to other gods. I'm glad you have certainty in your convictions on this Ayin Jade. Might I ask, what is the source of that certainty? Are there any scriptural passages that support it? When the god they pray to has attributes completely different than our Lord, then they are praying to another god. As for scriptural passages ... there are many in the bible that speak of how wrong the worship of false gods is. In post 21 in this thread, I posted a comparison of the difference between the allah of islam and our Lord. There is a clear and distinct difference. You note that Allah has attributes 'completely different' from the Biblical God, and therefor must be 'another' and false god. Looking over your list of attributes (from post #21) though, I think some of your points are incorrect. What sources are you using for these attributes? I certainly agree that Muslim understanding of God, especially in respect to Jesus, is incompatible with the Bible, but in speaking with Muslims (mainly Sunni, and usually of the al Hannifi school) several of your points seem to not match with what they believe. Specifically, points #1, 2, 7 (in terms of the hate). Many people who call themselves 'christians' would also say that God does not have many of these attributes (which would be clear rejection of Biblical teaching of course), but we would not say that they should not call their diety 'God'. Instead, we would seek to teach them what is true about God. My undestanding of the word 'God' and the word 'Allah' is that they are not proper names, but rather titles. Each refers not to a specific individual (ie Bob), but rather is the only title for the One unique being who created all things (ie 'mankind' if we're staying with the Bob metaphor). To say that Muslim understanding of Allah is not the same as Biblical Christian understanding of God is absolutely correct. But think on this... if I used any other title for YHWH in English other than God, what would it be? Would it add or detract from His glory to use any other word? We could use words from other languages certainly, but in English, is there any other word that would adequetely represent YHWH? Well Allah is taken from the ancient moon god worship http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/moongod.htm And Allah was the name of Said moon God. So its not even a term like "God" its the direct name of the Moon God who was worshiped coincidentaly in the same region that Mohammad grew up.
  4. Well I was involved with Youth With A Mission(YWAM For short) for many years, I was on staff and did multiple trips/schools etc with them. Many YWAM missionary bases have focused on non reached people groups. There mission statement is "To Know God, and to Make Him Known" They are one of, if not the largest missions organizations on the planet with over 1000 operating locations world wide. They train missionaries then send them out, which is what there mission statement says. Their website is http://www.ywam.org I was on staff with YWAM Denver for just under 3 years and here is there website. www.ywamdenver.com As for the unreached people groups. This site and the book they produce is a very good resource as they maintain stats on countries, including what percentage are christians, where people are persecuted, what religions are believed etc... http://www.operationworld.org/ If you have any more questions feel free to ask!
  5. That is why you need to make sure your investments average over a 6% return. That covers taxes and inflation, and keeps your future investments afloat.
  6. Ecc Do you understand that Jesus says its being born of the spirit that saves us? So look at it this way. No one can work to be born. We are given life. It is up to us to keep it. We need to feed ourselves, and grow and learn, and protect ourselves. But yet it is no work of ours that makes us be born. There is no way for us to "Work" our way to life. Until we are born of the spirit we cannot live, we can not be saved and we can not be changed into a new creature. Once we are given the gift of salvation we are then Born. Just like any child that is Born of the flesh, a person born of the spirit can lose that life. However that life is in and of itself is a gift. No one is saved by works. They are saved by grace through faith. They need to then work to keep their faith alive. People seem to be confused thinking that they have to work to become alive. This is simply not possible, nor is is biblical. To make it fit with the Word you must do violence to it and take things out of context and ignore the rest of the chapter and book in which each verse is taken, not to mention the rest of the Bible. This verse sums it up. We were dead, he made us alive, we can not work our way to alive from dead. That is impossible. You can work yourselves to death however, that is possible.
  7. Depends on the building. Brick does not bend, it breaks. Wood flexes with shock and does not break. This was learned during the 1906 San Francisco quake. There are more brick buildings in the Midwest and the east by far then in California. You see I have noticed this as It sorta freaked me out seeing so many brick buildings, I noticed it when I moved to Denver and when I visited my friends in Pennsylvania. Along with a few documentaries about the potential for major disaster because the mid west has some major faults that go very rarely and they shake the bedrock worse then it does in California, and they have no real earthquake building code, so when they do have even a stronger little earthquake they suffer much more damage then in California.
  8. Well sounds like a good rumbler. In the tub I am sorry but that is kinda funny! You see I grew up in California, those do almost no damage as we are built up for it, but I can see more damage being done as they are not built for it! Glad you are okay!
  9. We choose to cooperate with or to reject God's grace. The seeds that fell on the rocky soil are those who hear the word and accept it with joy, but they do not persevere and bear fruit. We cannot save ourselves by our actions, but we can reject God's grace by our actions. You did not answer my question. Sorry I did not put that in the form of a question as I thought I did. I do apologize. . I am glad you say we can not be saved by our actions. You didn't ask a question. Grace gives us life, but it doesn't take away our ability to reject this same grace.
  10. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. There was no root in these people and they never produced fruit. It's the difference between mental assent and placing strong faith in Christ. Real believers always bear fruit. Okay, thanks I had that mixed up from childhood..
  11. We choose to cooperate with or to reject God's grace. The seeds that fell on the rocky soil are those who hear the word and accept it with joy, but they do not persevere and bear fruit. We cannot save ourselves by our actions, but we can reject God's grace by our actions. You did not answer my question.
  12. Again, this is not proof you stating it is not proof. Not true. For instance. The book of Genesis, if you take the story of Joseph out of it, that is not out of context, with the creation of man. They are addressing two fully different issues. Now taking something out of the story, for instance, the selling Joseph to the slave traders, and saying that we all should be sold to slave traders, because it worked out okay for Joseph. That is taking it out of context. Yes, when you ignore the paragraph even the full sentence in which the scripture is in. Nope, you do not like it. You ignore the scriptures that I have quoted, you ignore all scriptures that fly in the face of your doctrine.
  13. Also Chesterton, You can not work your way into being alive? You see salvation is Christ making us Alive when we were dead in sin. You can not work up life. You can work you self to death.
  14. I know False. If you make such a statement, you need to back it up with facts. You have not. Yes. I have asked you to drop the subject. You have been promoting catholic talking points with out mentioning the church by name. Does not matter. I said drop it. Taken out of context. You see twisting truth to fit a lie does not make the lie true. You refuse to use proper context. You leave out verses that fly in the face of your doctrine. You see even Satan quoted scripture, did that make what he said true?
  15. Take your own advice. Tell me, why does the bible spend so many words describing which behaviors are acceptable and which are unacceptable? I do. You can look at my posts and see that I do. What are you speaking of?
  16. Its about trees that start to grow, it mentions the saving word of the Lord. I am not speaking of sold trees. But seedlings.
  17. Then could you explain why Jesus mentions Salvation? He does this, before it gains root. So you are stating if it starts to grow, but gets killed, they were never saved to begin with? Yes this is about the saving word of God. Not just the heart condition.
  18. Yes but we can reject the gift. You can throw away any gift you are given. There are pastors who are not going to make it because though they preach they do not know Him. You see salvation is more then just belief, As I stated it God giving us new life. Once we have that new life, if we choose to get rid of it and try to, or to let it die we can. At least this disagreement, has got us back on track with the OSAS. thread vs the faith vs works it turned into. Yes God hold on to us. However he still has given us free will to fully reject him. This goes to the faith without works is dead. Grace by Faith is what saves us. We are made alive in Christ. As I said, You can not work your way to life, but you can work your self to death. I know many who believe, and have some amount of faith but they try to work there way into heaven and they work there way right on out of it. How many people have claimed the name of Jesus, with out letting the change work? They let the word die. So the question would be, were they not really saved in the first place? Or did they have the word and have some belief but they let the world crowd out the word and let the world push out the seed? Yes the parable was about the heart conditions, but it does speak of salvation being brought by the word when embraced. The thing is there are some where the word is welcomed and yet, it dies. were they ever able to be saved if they came to the belief and faith? or were they never saved? I have seen many claim Christ, and even live the life and show fruit, that later walked away 100% Are they still saved when they flat out refuse to take anything from God, and refuse to let him work in there life any more? My stepfather is a good example of this. He was very godly, had words from God, lead bible study's etc.. but now he has completely turned away from God 100% was he ever saved, is he still saved, even though he has walked away from God and turned his back on him? You see the cares of the world choked out the life of him. It was working to provide for the kids to the exclusion of all else including God. Will he still make it even if he no longer has faith?
  19. This is the full post of what I wrote, I put all scripture into quotes. In answer to the OSAS question in the original OP I think the parable of the Sower explains it and unless I have missed it explains everything. So its about letting the Seed of the word of God grow and prudence fruit. All a person has to do is hold on to it and let it grow. Holding on by the strictest definition is a work but in this sense it is the difference of keeping a gift or throwing it away, or allowing it to be stolen. So can you lose your salvation? Well according to this yes, it can be stolen or choked out. You can choose not to let it grow. Now if you hold on and let it bear fruit then you are saved. Again we do not work for salvation. We are given it. We can give it up. We can lost it by letting the world crowd it out. We do need to work out the salvation by fighting off thieves, and holding tight to it. So in that respect we do work and work out our salvation. For faith with out works is dead. However, its not the works that saves us, its the faith. You see, Jesus says its being born of the spirit that saves us. So look at it this way. No one can work to be born. We are given life. It is up to us to keep it. 20. Which? There are a lot of quotes on some of these post. Hard to follow which is which and who is asking who a question! This post. So its about letting the Seed of the word of God grow and prudence fruit. All a person has to do is hold on to it and let it grow. 21. Let's now read how God tells us to study His word; Isa.28 [10] For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: Topic with topic. Line upon line. Searching the scriptures here and there. Luke 4 [4] And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Using EVERY WORD of God. That means, Gen. to Rev. Acts 24 [14] But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: Doing as Paul, and believing ALL THINGS written in the law and the prophets, Old AND New Testaments. 2 Tim.3 [15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Knowing that the same scriptures that we read in the OT are able to give salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. 1 Thes.5 [21] Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Proving all things. 2 Tim.4 [5] But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. Make FULL proof of thy ministry 2 Tim.3 [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. And finally using ALL of the inspired words of God for ALL of our doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction. . But picking and choosing what you want to use does not even follow what you just said. Also are you going to reply to my post I have asked you to?
  22. Holding on implies something by our own strength. How does this square with Jude? 24 Now to Him who is able to keep you[f] from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, He else to you keep it? In other words, perhaps better is to allow it to grow, allow HIM to do the good work and not allow other things to choke it out. So how else to you keep something, unless you hold on? Oh and the plant/seed does not hold on. We hold on to it.
  24. Also what Eccl and Chesterton refuse to do is follow these two simple Bible study rules. Doing so would likely change there whole life.
  25. Please can you respond to this? You just took several scriptures out of context. Be careful with that as Satan has quoted scripture, but out of context. Just quoting scripture does not make one right.
