New American Bible Version coming out soon
Hunterpoet replied to a topic in Most Interesting News Developments
Hey Rad, Well I checked 12 different translations and the word holocaust was not in any of them. So I'm assuming this word is exclusive to this translation. So changing this to " burnt offerings " may be a more accurate translation. Replacing the word virgin with " young woman " is dangerous, even though they claim no intent to change doctrine. The discussion as to whether or not to use the terms he and she just causes me to shudder. Overall I think these changes are just another step down that slippery slope, but I do confess a very strong prejudice towards catholic doctrine and teachings. -
almost private property: I can't say about the town the tax occurs in, but, Here in my town the area from my front lawn to the street is still owned by the city. That means my front sidewalk and driveway apron are owned by the city. If i understood the article correctly, they are charging a fee/taxing folks for driving over the easement portion of the driveway....which is really bad because you are responsible for the upkeep of this area even though the city owns it...presumably because they allow you to use it. Thats why the mayor of that town called it a " fee " instead of a tax. I think that's the case pretty much everywhere, H.P. I don't see how a city can tax a church based on attendance though. Time for a good lawyer. I agree

Who or What do you think the leaven refers to here in Matthew 13:33?

I have read several commentaries that agree that the " Kingdom of Heaven " was established at Pentecost, that being Christ's church here on earth, the Gospel and His commandments. Hmm, never heard that one, could be. I suppose a good self-study would clear things up. Thanks for the insight though I guess the next question lies @ whether the two terms could ever be interchanged? Mt 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Lu 9:2 And he sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick -

Thanks HP, that kinda what I getting confused at. From the Ryrie Study Bible Footnote section b of Matthew 13:33--"Others regard the meaning of leaven in this parable in a good sense, as indicating the growth of the kingdom of heaven by means of the penetrating power of the Gospel." What confuses me, from what I have studied and understand everywhere else in the Bible when leaven is spoken of; it is a type of impurity or evil, I guest I confused especially by Paul statement in I Corinthians 5:6-8. I know this may not mean anything but why would God use leaven as symbol of His kingdom. not necessarily as a symbol of His kingdom, but rather what His kingdom can do.....or for that matter , as Paul uses is it.....how evil can permeate. it is the action of leaven that is central here........because as Paul says ... a little leaven( evil)...leavens( infects) the whole loaf( society ). -

From Dictionary(dot) com Leaven: as a noun...an element that produces an altering or transforming influence. as a verb,,,,to permeate with an altering or transforming element. The Kingdom of Heaven certainly qualifies as an altering, influencing or transforming element. Although I'm leaning towards the term " Kingdom of Heaven " to mean the Word of God and specifically the Gospel. -

I have an Italian made 177 cal pellet riffle that in one cock has a muzzle velocity of 1280 fps and have killed squirrels at 125 ft.... Its an amazing gun... but it sounds a little less than a 22 when fired. So there was a loud crack because of its larger caliber when it fired! Just no smoke... so yours is spring loaded....?? Yes I assume spring plunger and trigger release causes air chamber increase to propel pellet ... for some reason I'm not having any luck finding spring loaded pistols or rifles......where did you get yours http://www.gamousa.c...x?productID=138 made in spain not italy... oops! Thank you...if all goes well I;ll be plinking away by the end of summer
