  1. Sounds a bit like Australia.
  2. No problems when deciding what is or is not motivated by the Holy Spirit.. Just concentrate on the fruits of the Spirit, in particular the peace, gentleness, kindness and self control ones in these circumstances. Anything that does not fit into these categories, particularly self control, is not motivated by the Holy Spirit, however much it seems to fit with the fruit called joy. None of the fruits may be taken in isolation. How could they? They represent the totality expression of the Holy Spirit in our lives and without them all operating together there is no truth in what we are doing. We have been deceived. You are blessed that you have not been deceived. Praise God.
  3. There has to be a reason that is concerned with more than the value of oil because the value of oil is simply not $120 a barrel however one looks at how prices are set. Hopefully, I am not being paranoiac about this but clearly the price rise is being manipulated in some way and I am curious to know why. Looking at this from, say, a detective novel point of view, I would look first to see who benefits and what is obvious is that it is the oil producing nations which, in the main are Russia and the Middle East, though there are others with substantial outputs. Another way of considering the price is to wonder if one or another country is stock piling oil, getting ready for a war that would involve the Middle East and, therefore, the shut down of supplies of oil. Don't know. Just curious. Should be easy to find out for those who know how by checking stockpiles or seeing who is getting rich. Whatever is happening it is the ordinary person and families that are suffering and who don't know why.
  4. And that speaks straight to my heart also. It is relatively easy to toss a coin into a hat but far less so to invite somebody to share a meal, or even to ask if the person is hungry and go and buy some food for him or her. And associated with those actions is the time it takes to carry them out. Time is usually the hardest to give.
  5. A good point, OneLight, and showing my contribution to this thread, in italics, it is not a term used by me. But as an addendum, I should make it clear that I was only referring to not using the words soul mate with reference to a marriage between a man and a woman, as this is that to which Ephesians 5 refers. Of course the word is used in Holy Scripture in other circumstances: 1 Samuel 18 1 "And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house. 3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul."
  6. A good point, OneLight, and showing my contribution to this thread, in italics, it is not a term used by me. Statements by Grace 1479 and responses by me: Sometimes I asked God if I'm really allowed to love hubby as much as I do. We absolutely adore each other. The answer has to be yes, but such a blessing is not usual, unfortunately. You are so right. That's why I can't neglect to thanks my Father everyday for my hubby and our blessed marriage. Don't be mistaken, Satan tries his utmost best to destroy it, but with everything we already went through and all God's help, we fight him hand and teeth. It is so great when hubby would say: lovey did I told you today how much I love you?. Beautiful. Perhaps it would have been better, considering zoe-girls op, to have gone immediately to Ephesians 5:22-33 because that is what I meant, and that is my experience in my marriage. What I was responding to was the shared joy of another who had been blessed as I am. Your point is well made and overlooked by me. I steer well away from New Age, having seen its workings at close hand when living in a particular area once where it was the normal behaviour, and seeing how wrong it was. Thank you.
  7. The emphasis I put on what you say is that loving those we see in need, as if we were the person with the need, is how we love God. Or coming from the other side, we are loving God when we love that other person who is in need. Don't know for sure if that fits in with what you are saying but it sounds like it does.
  8. Too right. The Holy Spirit can only convict to the extent that we are open to conviction. Not only that, for many if not most, it is not possible to know what spirit is the influence without cross checking with Holy Scripture, which seldom happens for those who are only looking for confirmation of what they already wish to do. One thing I do know for sure, that your "big time disagreement with that line of thinking" is a conviction of the Holy Spirit.
  9. The answer has to be yes, but such a blessing is not usual, unfortunately.
  10. Good post. I was reading this thread and thinking about it. Hell is the alternative to life and love in the eternity of Jesus Christ, and for those who are in Jesus Christ there is no hell. Satan hates with an anger that is all the more because satan was defeated on the cross and lives in his own hell because of that fact. Satan hates Jesus Christ Son of God who is God and all who are in Christ with God. But I suppose the motivation is not so important as the actuality. In Christ we are one with God and safe. Outside of Christ we are the saliva of satan. Satan, like a vicious spider, actually enjoys the pleasure that comes from feeding on those who otherwise would be safe in Christ. A personal lust for evil and the infliction of an eternity of pain as we struggle with life that makes no lasting sense unless it is in Christ Jesus. Not preached much in today's age, but the alternatives to life in Christ are so horrible that there seems no alternative to the worlds in the Bainbridge hymn: "Nothing in my hands I bring. Simply to the cross I cling." Surely the cry of all who recognise the alternatives is "What must I do to be saved." Nowhere else am I safe from the mandibles of evil except in the arms of Jesus.
  11. "Hand, foot and mouth disease is a very common and mild illness which affects children. It is not related to the disease of a similar name that affects cattle. What is hand, foot and mouth disease? * Hand, foot and mouth disease is caused by a virus (usually Coxsackie virus A16). * It causes blisters on the hands, feet, in the mouth, and often in the nappy area. * Hand, foot and mouth disease can be caused by several other viruses. Rarely, it can be caused by an Enterovirus 71 which causes a rare complication of headache, stiff neck and paralysis." It is the rare type caused by Enterovirus 71 that is reported from China.
  12. Very interesting. Thank you. Look forward to the full article when it comes out.
  13. I think they only make that mess because they are imagining the walk they wanted to be on and forget they are on a carpet and not on grass. But they may be trying to say something or get their own back!!
