I love working and playing in my yard, talking and being with my friends, reading, learning things, trying to understand the larger picture, aiming for insight into God's ways. I have two adult sons, a husband of 46 years, lots to be grateful for and things that continue to cause sorrow. I'm estranged from my mother and not close to either son. Motherhood, I've decided, is highly overrated. Topic for another time and place..............
  1. Google this woman and see if you think she has anything to say worthy of much effort analyzing. Mental midget, uh-huh. Question is who in the world elected her and why would anyone vote for her again? She and Rosie O'Donnell and Joy Behar seem to know nothing about either Islam or Christianity to draw any coherent parallel between the two ideologies. She is an embarassment.
  2. I've heard that snail mail really impresses them.
  3. I email all of them but I know they don't care. We must get control again.
  4. I say yeah for AZ and a governor with the guts to do something. I was in a car in Sierra Vista, AZ, a few years ago when a stolen truck with a cab and bed full of illegals, being chased by police, hit the intersection, aiming for the police officer but hit the tack strip, rolled, flew through the air and landed on innocents in their cars. Six people died right there. Let's think about them and their families and that was only one day, one incident. This is a war. We are continuing to be invaded. What's wrong with this picture? Too much. I'm in the Palm Springs/Indio, CA area right now and it is Mexifornia. Drove by my rentals in Riverside last week and it is Mexifornia. If you think I'm prejudiced, think again. I'm simply disgusted with the politicians who have ruined this beautiful state. I had two employees who paid coyotes to smuggle in relatives from Mexico and that's when I really had my eyes opened to the underground. I've had wonderful experiences with the friendly, hard-working, intelligent Mexicans who populate our state, but it is ridiculous to think we can continue to support this deluge of people invading our land. Obama is playing to the growing population of Mexicans and counting on support for his own political purposes. It's too much, really. Corruption abounds.
  5. This is one of those misleading and irritating bylines. This Bible study really seems to be more a home-based church. If I lived next to a home that had cars parked all over the place week after week, I wouldn't like that either. Makes it seem that Rancho Cucamonga is out to get those who have home Bible studies, and that doesn't seem to be the case.
  6. Don't take the sign down. Don't pay your taxes. Don't go along with this. Don't sit and do nothing. Vote the city manager out of office. Don't expect it to get better.
  7. This isn't about Mexico's health insurance, but some very good friends just returned from Puerta Vallarta where they have been going for extensive dental work. The dentist is a graduate of Loma Linda University and does excellent work for reasonable fees. They exchange a timeshare week and fly w/frequent flier miles. Hmmm. I'd do it based on their experience.
  8. I've spent most of the past year on two other boards, not Worthy, where everyone is the parent of an adult child they are estranged from. Talk about a wrenching enduro, and although I am not really estranged from either son, I got it loud and clear how unbelievably awful some of these adult children are to their parents. I've become aware of some studies done on estrangement and one of the glaring variables is the entitlement attitude of the children. We are getting the opposite reaction that we expected: we gave them so much, focused on them too much, unconditional love blather, give, give, give and guesswhat? It doesn't always impress them with the gratitude we would expect. This overdiagnosis may well be true, but the rise of narcissism that is documented in college age young adults testifies to something qualitatively different in attitudes of younger generations. Be careful of overindulgence and be careful of exalted expectations. Your heart may well be broken down the road.
  9. Caution and prayers. Caution and prayer whether following Jay Adams too closely or trusting that a therapist will be effective because of claims to be Christian. Psychosis is said to be related to severe abuse or haywire brain chemistry, but either way there can be demonic elements. This is a valuable discussion. I should add study to caution and prayers. I have a MA in Marriage and Family Therapy but am still suspicious, cautious and prayerful. I suppose we should add a full measure of grace to the entire arena of discussion. Blessings, Pam.
  10. I have been a listener and follower of Dr. Dobson for so many years and he is villified because he is a man of God, principled and wise. I find it disgusting that he is disparaged by some Christians who apparently have swallowed the line of garbage the media has been spewing for many years. Read the books, listen to the programs. Dr Dobson is awesome.
  11. Feeling very frustrated reading this pontification by some. As far as only reading the Bible...amazing belief that truth or Truth can't be revealed in other writings. I read the Shack and didn't particularly like it, read it again to see why so many were wild about it, went to a book club discussion and admitted there were things that I liked, so had to lighten up about my criticism of it. I loved Papa being a large black woman. I loved that parameters were challenged. I went to a women's retreat years ago and could hardly bear the prayers before lunch by a woman intoning over and over and over, "Father God," because I knew that approximately 50% of the women in any group have been sexually molested to some degree by a male. Some women just can't deal with a purely masculine God and the androgeny of Jesus is much safer than the Father figure in the Godhead. Papa as a woman isn't literally Biblically compatible, but it challenges the reader to step outside a culturally imposed box. Yes, the Scriptures present God in a masculine form but there are other references that are female, though pastors don't usually mention this. Years ago I had a professor (Christian university) pray to Father/Mother God and it felt right. I redesigned my own personal paradigm as God the Father, Jesus the androgenous One, the Holy Spirit as the female aspect of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit as Comforter, Counselor, you get the idea. I don't defend this with specific Scripture and this may seem heretical to some, but our God is clever enough to cover the bases with aspects of completion and fullness. He would be all and all, male and female. The Shack presents startling ideas to some but pushing us to rethink things is an aspect of growth. How sad to avoid what might be challenging when it might be something that enlarges our perception. Fear isn't of the Lord. Courage and grace to glean Truth seem more in keeping with the nature of the God we aim to worship.
  12. Many years ago I wrote, "Love regardless," in the front of my Bible, something a friend of mine suggested I do in a sticky situation. Yes, we are surrounded by so much that is sinful, but we must love regardless. Sometimes that love is displayed in gentle and loving confrontation and works only when the Holy Spirit is in charge. I think we all know that criticism doesn't work. We are swimming upstream in a cultural cesspool, whether it be heterosexual couples living together, gays doing their thing, or letting our kids watch R rated movies. It's a tightrope, Holy Spirit thing maneuvering through all this. There are so many wonderful gays out there who would be shocked out of their socks to find a loving, compassionate Christian. I think that is what we should be teaching our children, not the lessons of estrangement and rejection. God can work through what needs to be worked through if we love regardless and ask for His help constantly.
  13. If the minister is aware of spiritual warfare, by all means enlist him in this battle. Not all ministers are in tune with this, but remember that where two or more are gathered, Jesus is there and there is strength in numbers. I have at times spoken directly to the spirit and commanded it in Jesus name to leave my presence. Tell the spirit(s) to go back to hell where they belong. Take authority as you have dominion as the child of God. Don't be afraid to speak power in the mighty name of Jesus. Hell trembles at that name. There are some very informative websites on spiritual warfare. You can google spiritual warfare and keep yourself busy reading for as much time as you want to invest. I'm so glad you brought this topic before us. I believe such things need to be discussed and these spirits bound. Bless you!
