  1. Repent/Repentance By way of explanation, when the original language words hyperlinked, it is to a site that is showing you all of the instances where each word is used in the Bible, as well as detailed explanations of the words. In the Old Testament we have the Hebrew word "nāḥam". It is a verb which can mean to console, or it can mean to change one's mind or be sorry about something. There is another verb, "ʻānâ", which is to be contrite and sometimes has an idea of affliction. It is associated with prayer and fasting. Finally in the Old Testament there is the verb "šûb", that is to turn around as in turning from sin to God. Turning to the New Testament We have a Greek noun, "metanoia" and the verb "metanoeō ", they both refer to a turn from sin to God. Whereas in the Old Testament, repentance often means a change mind, the new Testament more often mean to turn away from sin, to do the will of God. There is also a Greek verb "epistrephó" which emphasizes turning or returning. Some take away things of note: Sometimes, to repent is to to be sorry about something, other times it is more about a change of direction in behavior, a change of the heart, and a turning in direction, toward God and His will. Stopping is often not the focus as much as a new direction. I might be noted, that due to our nature, that is opposed to God, that there are at least times, where the source of repentance is not merely our will, but is by the grace of God that we can turn toward Him: 1 Tim 2:24 The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance (metanoia) leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. Some Key Verses - ESV Version Matt 3:2 - “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matt 4:17 - From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Mark 6:12- So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. Acts 2:38 - And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 17:30 - he times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent, Acts 26:20- but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance. Rev 2:5 - Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. Rev 2:16 - Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth. Rev 2:22 - Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, Rev 3:3 - Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. Rev 3:19 - Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Jer 23:22 - But if they had stood in my council, then they would have proclaimed my words to my people, and they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their deeds. Jer 25:4-5 - 4 You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the Lord persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets, saying, ‘Turn now, every one of you, from his evil way and evil deeds, and dwell upon the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers from of old and forever. Zech 1:3-6 - 3 Therefore say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts: Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. 4 Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, ‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.’” Psa 51 - Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; then will you delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on your altar. Luke 3:8- Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. Acts 26:20 - but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.
  2. Oh dear. The cost of posting a letter in NZ has just increased because the use of postal services is declining at a "significant rate". One of many things that being in the future requires us to adapt to. Quote: NZPOST Changes From July 1st 2019 Why did New Zealand Post increase prices? The price of sending a standard letter within New Zealand increased by 10 cents to $1.30 on 1 July 2019, to better reflect the true cost of sending a letter. NZ Post delivers over 400 million mail items a year, but the number of letters sent continues to drop at a significant rate. We’re working hard to keep the cost of posting mail as low as possible, by significantly reducing our network costs and making big changes to how we operate. How did the letter price affect KiwiStamps? Existing KiwiStamps retained their value. You can use any KiwiStamps you have already purchased for Standard Mail after 1 July 2019, without paying any more postage. New packs of KiwiStamps purchased from 1 July 2019 reflects the new pricing. Why did NZ Post increase the price to send a letter or parcel overseas? Letter volumes around the world are declining, while the cost to process and deliver mail continues to rise. We have worked hard to keep prices as low as possible, however we need to increase the price from time to time. It has actually become difficult to find an actual post box when the need to actually post a letter arises. These red NZPost boxes used to be numerous and handy but they have been slowly disppearing and we have the strange situation now that when we post a letter in Hamilton for an address in Hamilton it actually gets taken 123kms (77miles) north to Auckland for sorting before being delivered back to its destination in Hamilton. This can take up to ten days now that all Hamilton's mail sorting centres have been closed down to reduce overheads. We do have some privately owned postal providers in NZ but they are more expensive than the state provider: The State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986 required New Zealand Post to operate as a successful business and to be: as profitable and efficient as comparable businesses not owned by the Crown a good employer an organisation that exhibits a sense of social responsibility by having regard to the interests of the community in which it operates and by endeavouring to accommodate or encourage these when it is able to do so. The Act also spelled out the broad nature of the Crown’s ownership of the company, defining the role of directors and outlining the responsibilities of shareholding Ministers. The reporting requirements for SOEs are also outlined in the Act. The Act creates an arms-length relationship by distancing management tasks from political control. Under the Act, the Government must fund any non-commercial activities that the Government wants carried out. The decline of the postal system is not actually a big problem for me personally as I don't post many letters now, doing most of my invoicing by email, but it is one of the small things that add up to a major changing of ways in a person's lifetime.
  3. I am "the reprobate guy". But after reading some of your encouraging comments yesterday, I am going to try and force myself to believe I'm not reprobate. I have decided I am going to start praying 3 times a day, morning, middle, and evening, along with reading the Bible. Do you guys have any other advice? Or just a general word on salvation? Thank you so much
  4. Isaiah 11:6 Remember "and the lion shall lie down with the Lamb?" It has changed to "and the wolf will dwell with the lamb." The lion isn't with the lamb anymore.
  5. THE POWER OF YOUR MIND Success and failure are products of thoughts. It matters what your thoughts are. God has given us a special instrument to help us appropriate and come to the full possession of the blessings of God. That's our mind. Your mind is unlimited in its potentials to create whatever you desire. When you put your mind power to work, the possibilities are endless. What you become in life is largely determined by the content and the quality of your mind, because with your mind you can change anything about you. The content and character of your mind must be rich enough to pull toward you what you want . The way to transform, improve and upgrade your life is by renewing your mind. Who you are today is a function of your mind. Your personality is the expression of the contents and working of your mind. Proverbs 23vs7 If you don't learn how to process your thoughts and mind the rich deposits of your inward man, you'll get nothing from it and it reflects in the quality of your life. You are not better than your thoughts. You are your thoughts. If your thoughts are better this , you would have been better than where you are. You wouldn't have been where you are right now. In other words , your present status is a product of your thoughts. You created you present status . To be successful in life is not a matter of I couldn't but it's a case of I wouldn't. It's a choice. Romans 12:2. Your mind will influence your emotions. Your real character is not formed by your spirit but your mind. Consciously disallow negative thoughts. Don't accommodate negative thoughts Your life will always go in the direction of your thoughts. You can't be different from your thoughts. Channel your thoughts the way God wants you to go.Using your mind right is your ticket to the next and higher level you desire. 6. Blessings Brothers & Sisters,,,,,, I heard a "delicious" sermon this morning & I thought I would share this with all of you,,,,,,a tasty snack of Peace,Joy & Wisdom If anyone has ever heard David Jeremiah then just imagine his gentle, peaceful & gracious tone with this encouraging message. So many times we hear about the "evidence" of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit & yet more often we hear verses of Scripoture being taken out of context ,leaving the "hearer" wondering if they are truly Saved We are Saved by the Grace of God,we are "Born Again" into His Righteousness by our Faith It is because of what HE has done,Jesus Finished Work on the Cross,,,,,so where is the 'evidence"?Is it "speaking in tongues"?Is it our works? Is it the Gifts of the Spirit? The Fruits? How do we know we are "Born Again"? Many people will tell you a date they were Saved, without a shadow of doubt they will say"On such & such date I was Born Again" and some (like myself) cannot remember the date but of course I know there was a day I asked Jesus to come into my heart & Save me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that is all we need to know, there was a time that Jesus came to live in us,we were indwelled with His Holy Spirit. There are folks that remember the date very well & on that date they cast away their drugs, alcohol, cigarettes & everything else that they were bound by & they simply will never forget. That is not usually how it works & so, many New Believers question the day they came to the Foot of the Cross,,,,,,"Am I Born Again?" David Jeremiah said there are 5 birthmarks of Salvation, how you know that you are Saved or you know that someone else has Jesus Living in them. The first is easy,it is the birthmark of CONFESSION,,,,,You BELIEVE that Jesus is the Son of God,the Savior of the world You BELIEVE & have asked His forgiveness of your sins,,,,,that is the Confession of FAITH It is a decision,"Lord Jesus,be my Savior (see also John 3:16,1 John 4:1-3 and John 3:36) It is nothing that "I" did,it is because "He" did it ALL The second is the birthmark of CHANGE As I mentioned earlier, some folks experience an immediate transformation, they threw their cigarettes away, stopped swearing,no more drugs,,,,,,,but it does not always happen instantaneously & that is okay because a change does take place that day,Jesus came to live inside of you and it happens from the inside out,we become a New Creature,,,the Holy Spirit is within us The 3rd is the birthmark of COMPASSION Being Born of God is having Gods DNA,the old sinful nature has passed away(the old man) & it is who you love, you love God,love one another,,,,,,you are now Gods Family & you want to be with other Christians, children of God And isn't it True, when we meet a Brother or Sister in Christ there is an instant Bond,we know we are Family such a Joy,Praise Jesus! The 4th is the birthmark of CONFLICT,,,,,, You've heard many times that we are in the world but not "of" the world, being Born Again we take on the foes of the world but as overcomers,Victors Everything that is not of God conflicts with our New Nature, the UnBelievers can see that we are different,we know it too Finally,we have the 5th,,,,this is the birthmark of CONDUCT,,,, Does this mean we will never again sin? No it does not ,what it does mean is that we can no longer live in willful rebellion,,,,,if anyone does continually sin & violate Gods Laws with the attitude of "Well I live in Grace & am not under the Law so I will do what I want" they are deceiving themselves & are not Saved Gods children live in Gods Grace & are Forgiven ,you don't reach a "sin limit" or have a quota-lol It does not mean you will never again sin, trip & fall,,,,it simply means that you will be convicted and will not KEEP sinning God Seed in you,the Holy Spirit will not allow sin You will not want to sin because you love God I'm sure I did not say exactly what Dr Jeremiah said but I'm am sure you all got the jist of it,I could not remember all the lovely Scriptures he referred to ,I should have written them all down-lol What I liked about the 5 birthmarks is that all the Scriptures do say "Born of God",,,,,,,I only hope to encourage someone who has any doubts about being Saved,,,,,,,there is nothing that "we do",nothing that we "do not do",,,,,,we are TRANSFORMED into into New Creatures in Christ Jesus ,a continual work in progress as we walk with jesus....know that you know what you know, you are His,bought & paid for "in Full",,,,,,,,His Grace never expires,His Love is Unconditional and He Forgave you, past, present & future,,,,,,a change took place the very moment you said"Please forgive me Jesus,I need you to be my Lord & Savior" now just Let go & let God All Glory ,Praise & Honor to our Precious Lord Almighty,JESUS! With love-in Christ,Kwik
  7. I had a dream last night in which an angel appeared and told me "They are confused. Use your prose to unite them." When I awoke I thought deeply about this and realized what he's saying. There exists so much confusion today on the meaning of the bible (Catholic, Mormon, Jehavohs Witness, Seven Day Adventists, etc.. all interpret the scriptures differently). I would probably make changes to a few verses so it would be more clear, my first choice... The Lord is speaking to Abraham in this story where God commands him to sacrifice his son: ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.’ (Genesis 22:2) This reminds me of the final scene in the Omen (1976) where the father stabs his son on the alter. Even if God intervens at the last minute, don't you think that child is going to be scarred emotionally for the rest of his life? I know if my dad tried to kill me and then stopped at the last minute tellng me God changed his mind I'd run far away in case it ever happens again. Second choice... In this verse, Samuel, one of the early leaders of Israel, orders genocide against a neighbouring people: “This is what the Lord Almighty says... ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’” (1 Samuel 15:3) This goes back to my early questions about why women and children had to die in Daniel 16:24. Why kill all the innocents too? I would make it clear in the rewriting that slavery is wrong, killing gay people is wrong, and adjust other things so that they can't be taken out of context. Any book that has been transcribed over and over through 2000 years something may get lost (even the meanings of word has changed since then) so I believe the angel had a good point. If you could pick just one or two scriptures (old or new testement) in the bible and change it, which would you choose?
  8. If you live in the U.S. Please consider voting today as we just have. Thanks, your vote matters! From the CP article, underlining emphasis mine: “Republicans are poised to pick up seats and could win control of the United States Senate on Tuesday in midterm elections heavily influenced by deep voter dissatisfaction with U.S. President Barack Obama's job performance. “From abortion to racial justice, Christians prompted by churches and a host of faith-based advocacy organizations to exercise their right to vote and help shape America's culture and future, are expected to flood the polls in the name of Jesus and a long list of other causes Tuesday.” “We wanted to encourage our people to register to vote and to vote. We believe that voting is a Christian responsibility in the government that we live in. We are the government.” “As Christians, we have an obligation to be involved in our culture and voting is an extension of our values. If we believe in the sanctity of life we can't appoint an agent that opposes the values that we believe. … Silence is not an option, voting is a responsibility we want to make" “We encourage people to vote their biblical values. We don't tell them who to vote for. We encourage them to match their biblical values with the candidate's position. For tomorrow (Tuesday) we are looking forward to a good voter turnout. I think our constituents really believe that America is on a lost track and in dire straits," said Staver...” “Many Christians have been duped into accepting a false idea: that there is a "neutral" position they can take in regard to social issues. Some Christians even accept the myth that the U.S. Constitution declares that there should be a separation of church and state, and, thus, they don't want their Christian beliefs to influence politics. ” ~Ken Ham
  9. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1021048/Female-Schindler-Irena-Sendler-saved-2-500-Jewish-children-died-aged-98.html I think it's important to take a moment to honor people who have made an impact on the world. Especially, those who've gone unnoticed for as long as She did. I've had many classes about the Holocaust. Not once, did I hear of Irene Sendler. You hear of Schindler and his famous List. But never her. She saved at least 2500 Jewish Children. The Nazis tortured her for this but she still lived. She despises the word heroism because she felt like some how there was more she could have done. And the paragraph at the end is super important if you do not read the article, read this part: "A few months before she died, she said: "After World War II, it seemed that humanity understood something, and nothing like that would happen again. Humanity has understood nothing. Religious, tribal, national wars continue. The world continues to be in a sea of blood." But she added: "The world can be better if there's love, tolerance and humility." I just want to ask you all, as Christians, to check yourselves today. Are you showing love, tolerance, humility? Honestly, how do you treat people who have different opinions than you? A different ethnicity than you? Who don't agree with your set of beliefs? People who may not care about God, or maybe they do but they certainly don't claim to have all the answers? Different religions? Do you judge them? Accuse them of things? Are you hateful and not even aware of it? Are you being like Jesus? I think Jesus would be full of love, tolerance and humility. I don't see a lot of that from Christians in my area, at the churches I've attended, and even sometimes, here. We can change the world with love. Isn't that what Jesus did? When it all boils down to it, Jesus didn't only change the world because of His love, he changed the world itself; the entire world was made different from His love. I just wonder what kind of changes we are making. Are they going to be positive ones, or negative ones. Are we helping to add to that Sea of Blood, Sendler mentioned?
