  1. In this morning’s weekly brothers breakfast fellowship, someone brought up the parable of the so-called “Prodigal Son” and we had real good fellowship around some of the meaning of this parable. I had a few realizations and things I’d not seen well before regarding this story, and I thought it would be good to jot these down and share with y-all. The conversation had basically started around how great a salvation we have been given in Christ, that His all-efficacious blood is constantly available to us, and how there is no condemnation whatsoever for us in Christ --> and this is what the prodigal father demonstrated. Several discussed what this means to us practically, that is: reject all condemnation, but say “yes” to the conviction and leading of the Spirit (which always leads us back to our Father). Accordingly, the definition of “prodigal” was brought up . . . this word has a definition of “wastefully extravagant” or “extreme.” Well each of the three characters in this story were actually prodigal: One son wasted his being and inheritance to an extreme; the father had extravagant love; the other son was extremely legal. The father lavished his love on the returning son, and in no way condemned him. In fact, to me, this is the biggest part of this story – that the father was over-the-top with his love and longing for his son, and to celebrate his return without a hint of penalty mentioned towards his son. Just try to grasp the depths of the love shown here, even though this son had dissipated his being in debauchery and squandered all his inheritance! My my my, such “wastefully extravagant” and incomprehensible love!!! But something else regarding this son came out too, which I hadn’t really seen well before. He was humble and crawled back to his father. He was guilty of so much, and he knew it. But he was destitute and hungry, and selfishly wanted to be back in his father’s influence so that he didn’t starve. But with all this he had one redeeming attribute – he was humble with his father. Of course, the father was just so overjoyed to have his son back that none of what he had done mattered . . . the father loved his son unconditionally regardless. And then there was the other son. He was the one who had been extremely faithful, stayed with the father and had behaved himself – he did what he thought was expected of him all those years. But he was furious that his brother, who had misbehaved in such an extreme way, would receive such extreme love from their father. In much self-centered pride he boastfully exclaimed, “Have I not been faithful all these years and did . . .!?” But the father wasn’t about to let that spoil the enjoyment of his other son returning and threw an extravagant feast for him. The Lord hates pride, but gives ear to the humble (regardless if the humble one has been living with swine). In this story there was one humble son and one full of pride. God resists the proud. May we always be humble before Him, realizing we are “but dust” and could never earn the price His love paid to redeem us. What a story of extremes, but the father’s extreme love wins the day!!! (One other thing I saw during the fellowship was this story is also an example of Israel and the gentile nations. Israel could say, “Lord have we not been faithful to You and done this and that to please You?” Meanwhile the gentiles were out there doing their pagan thing. But God loves us all, whether Jew or gentile. In Christ’s reconciling work, the two are made one --> one new man.)
  2. God is a Father, Jesus is not. God deals with elders who are overseers of families for this reason. We love Jesus as He is mercifully dealing with mankind and He teaches us daily. If we look for Him...He will be there doing something amazing, valiant or merciful. But we can still go to God, ask Him what issues He is dealing with on earth for mankind. These are important designations we can discover, which make our relationship with Creator more fluid in everyway. Amen.
  3. I would like to hear from others who relate to this life-long difficulty… Due to the physical and emotional ABSENCE of my earthly Dad (even though he was alive and usually only a phone call away) and no other caring substitute interested in my life, I seem to be incapable of truly believing and trusting that my Father God loves me unconditionally, and actually WANTS a relationship with me. I believe it in Faith because “the Bible tells me so” and sometimes I DO feel His love for me, but on a daily average, I don’t. I can barely comprehend that this Father - Creator and Sustainer of the Universe - actually wants ME in a close relationship with Him? I have NO frame-of-reference for this. (Which is a deep grief in itself). This lack of comprehension on an emotional level has seriously effected my spiritual growth, my whole life. And yes, I continue to pray for it!
  4. Adoption An act of God which makes people who are separated from God pat of God's spiritual family This happens when God chooses sinners to adopt through the new birth, where we are born of the Spirit by grace through faith in God's only begotten Son Jesus, and in Jesus work of a sinless life and substitutionary death on the cross (His crucifixion). Adoption is always initiated by the parent, not the child.
  5. God's Tri-Unity, often called the Trinity The idea here is that while there is only one God, God exists eternally in three persons. This is confusing to many people. If you are one of them, don't feel too badly, perhaps no one understands fully what that means. Don't worry though, just because we do not understand something, that does not mean that it is not true, or that we need to understand it before we can believe it. When I was a child, I believed that when I threw a light switch, the light would come on. That did not require me understanding how or why it worked. It also did not require me to experience it before I believed it worked. Had one of my parents told me that if I threw the switch that the light would come on, I would have believed simply because I trusted the source of the information. It is often said "The word trinity is not in the Bible"! That is true, and we are not claiming that the Bible uses the word. We ARE claiming that the Bible teaches the concept, even though at times it is not obvious that it is attempting to do so. Here is how we come to the conclusion. The Bible tells us, that there is only one God. The Bible tells us of a person it calls "the Father", and that He is God. The Bible tells us of another person called the Son, or Jesus, or the Word, and that this person is God. The Bible tells of of yet another person (the Holt Spirit) who the Bible also refers to as God. Therefore the math is 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 : Three divine persons are the one God. Don't get hung up on the language. We tend to think of a person as another person like us, fellow humans. What we mean here, is that these persons, have traits of persons, such as they have wills, thoughts, emotions, the communicate, they take actions, etc., in other words they are personalities. God is God. For lack of a better theological term, He is divine, and only He is divine, made of "God stuff", so to speak. Three persons of one divine substance, distinct in personhood, yet sharing a will in unity. People try to come up with analogies, such as an egg is made of a white, a yolk, and a shell, yet they are all one egg. Another common one, is water, it can exist as a gas (steam or water vapor), liquid, or solid (ice). I am not fond of these analogies (though I will use other lame analogies in a moment anyway). I don't like them, because they always fall short. That is to be expected, because we are using analogies made from the creation, which is an entirely different classification from that of creator, so of course it falls short. There is also the limitation, that we have limited information from words in the Bible, and the limitations of our own minds, with which we are attempting to comprehend a being infinitely more complex than out minds are capable of understanding. The Father is called God 2 Thess 1:2 To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ The Son is called God John 1:1-5, John 10:30-33, John 20:27-28, Heb 1:8, Phil 2:5-11 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 30 I and the Father are one.” 31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?” 33 The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 8 But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The Holy Spirit is called God Acts 5:3-4, 2 Cor 3:15-18 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.” 15 Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. 16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. Then there are passages, the mention the three persons in the same breath so to speak. We know from Johns gospel. that the Son (as the pre-incarnate Word of God) was there in the beginning of creation, and in fact, created everything. Looking back in Genesis, we see a glimpse of that - God there is called in the Hebrew, Elohim (a plural word). We pretty much assume that God, later called the Father in the New Testament. Of the beginning, Genesis says: 1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. There you have God, and the Spirit of God in one sentence, and in verse 26 it says "Then God said, “Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness." That is the 1st example. if you like, you can look up Matt 3:16-17, Matt 28:19, 2 Cor 13:14 for a few more. Not to belabor the point, but there are over 60 such instances in the Bible. Then there are people who have difficulty just because the believe there is a conflict between something being singular and plural at the same time. They think it is logically impossible. How can something(s) (or someone(s)) be both singular and plural? I can be one or the other, but not both, they say! Again, I point out, that our experience in the physical world we know and experience, need not limit our thinking about the spiritual realm where things might be different in ways we do not (and perhaps cannot) imagine. People also fail to recognize how common it is in our language, to have both singularity and plurality represented, and we do not give it a second thought. What is a team, or a pair, or a committee? What about words like consensus, or union, agreement. Ever hear of a congress of one? Ironically in my country we have a congress, which is made two bodies, the House of Representatives, and the Senate, and each of those also has many members. Again, these are flawed analogies because they are physical things, but they do demonstrate that something can be plural and single at the same time. Supposedly, my country is ONE nation, under God (330,000,000 people are ONE nation.) U.S. coinage has printed on it "E pluribus unum" - our of many, one! The concept is all around us.
  6. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I would like to know the revelation hidden in these two verses from any one who has carefully studied these two verses from the Hebrew texts. If you haven't done the reserch you may kindly suggest me some useful links where I can do my own research. The best explanation so far I found is Gill's Exposition. I understand these two verses reveal the process that the Christ, the Son of God passing through from the eternity past to the eternity future. Grace be with you.
  7. The Trinity The Trinity is the Doctrine which states that there is only one God, and that the one God exists in three persons, all having a part in the creation, being co-equal and co-eternal. Persons here, does not mean people, not three humans, it merely means that the three are personal in nature, having the qualities of personhood, such as thought, will, action, relationship etc. Think of the idea of personality, and you get some idea. The doctrine is hard for many to accept, because in the limited thinking of being conditioned by a lifetime of experience in a material universe, they tend to think in terms of those experiences and not thinking outside of them, We sometimes forget to consider that things normally impossible, are possible with God. The doctrine does not arrive from some contrived imagination, it is seen as the only way to explain truths that the Bible states. It is not illogical, it is just outside of the limited logic we often apply. The Bible states that there is only One God. Bible refers to one person as the Father. It refers to a person it calls the Son, and it refers to a person it calls the Holy Spirit. Each of these persons are called God. If there is one God, and there are three persons who are each as individuals, also God, then by necessity, the three persons ARE the one God. Theoretically, there could be more persons who are also God, but if that is true, the Bible does not mention them, so to assume that there are more than three persons who are God, would be to go outside of God inspired scripture. There is one God Deut 6:4 4 “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! The Father is called God 2 Thess 1:1 1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. The Son is called God John 1:1-3 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. John 10:30-33 30 “I and the Father are one.”, 31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33 The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.” John 20:26-28 26 After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Heb 1:8 8 But of the Son He says, “YOUR THRONE, O GOD, IS FOREVER AND EVER, AND THE RIGHTEOUS SCEPTER IS THE SCEPTER OF HIS KINGDOM. Philip 2:9-11 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The Holy Spirit is called God Acts 5:3-4 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? 4 “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 2 Cor 3:17 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
  8. God Heals at the Gas Station! (Testimony) God loves to work with His children everywhere! Here is a testimony of just that; God working through His faithful servant to heal a man who was clearly in great pain at a GAS STATION of all places! How cool is that?! God is awesome! God bless you all, in Jesus' mighty name!
  9. Hello all. I'm very desperately in need of some advice on something that I have difficulty telling anyone about. We're a devout Christian family and my family (husband, daughter and I) have my 68 year old dad living with us. My mum passed away 3 years ago and it was a very difficult situation and I thank God that Dad and I were there to give each other support at this time. My dad is a very well-respected member of our church which makes this situation very complicated and difficult. I have a sister who lives overseas with her family and we have discussed that at some point if dad ever needed to have a companion we wouldn't really mind as we know how difficult it might be dealing with the loneliness since mum passed away. However, in the last year or so I have become very suspicious of dad as he's been very protective of his mobile, often times making sure he deletes stuff if I have to do something like show him how to update software, etc. Anyway, I got a bit paranoid and saw texts that he's been sending a very close friend of mine who's married by the way (40 yrs old) texts saying things like "baby", "sweetie" "love you" and things like how nice she looked on a particular day, etc - you get the drift. However, I've never seen any texts that reciprocate the same feelings from this friend so not sure if she's just very careful or she too finds it awkward not knowing how to put him down easily as he uses the widower sympathetic card quite often. I really do not know what to make of this, and maybe I'm being paranoid and there's nothing to this, but this just seems so wrong and deceitful. Especially when he criticises my husband for every fault of his (that is another long story and my husband has made some huge mistakes but is on the right path now). My mum did tell me that he did womanise during his younger days when he was married, and I wonder if that story's playing with my head as well. The first thought that came to mind when I saw these texts 5 days ago was anger, resentment and just a sense of despair. How do you confront your dad with this kind of information? He lost mum, and if I were making this all up in my head then he'd be so distraught. So then, I started feeling suicidal as I felt there was no way out but then realised that that wasn't the solution. I needed to get this off my chest to lessen the burden and get some advice. I wanted to tell my sister but she stays so far away and I didn't want her to get emotional and angry and feeling unable to do anything from so far. And I can't tell my friends, or church or work as this is so embarrassing. So I've come here after a bit of searching on the net and stumbled upon this site. So yes, any advice would be really appreciated. All I can do is pray about this and turn to the Lord for help but I don't seem to get any answers as I'm just filled with anger and resentment. Thanks so much. Blessings.
  10. Why Trinity ? God is of 3 persons ... Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Did anyone wonder why He is of 3 persons ? God has the power to split Himself into many persons ... Why not 4 ... 5 ... ... ... 1,345,654 ... infinity ?
  11. Running Away Based on the story of the lost sons and loving father from Luke 15:11-32. Adapted from “The Jesus Storybook Bible” by Sally-Lloyd-Jones. I didn’t think the story was quite complete so the text in { bold } are my edits and additions. --------- Jesus Told this story about {the younger son } who ran away: Once upon a time, there {were two sons and their} dad. Now one day, the boy gets to thinking, “Maybe if I didn’t have my dad around telling me what is good for me all the time, I’d be happier. He’s spoiling my fun,” he thinks. “Does my dad really want me to be happy? Does my dad really love me?” This {younger} son never thought of that before. But suddenly he doesn’t know anymore. So the {younger} son goes to his father and says, “Dad, I’m better off without you. I can look after myself. Just give me my share of your money.” His father is sad but he won’t force his {younger} boy to stay. So he gives his son what he wants. The {younger} son takes the money and goes on a long, long journey to a far off country. And everything’s wonderful and perfect – for a while. He can go wherever he wants, do whatever he wants, be whoever he wants. He is the boss, he is free! Sometimes he gets a strange, hungry, homesick feeling inside his heart, but then he just eats more, or drinks more, or buys more clothes, or goes to more parties until it goes away. But soon his money runs out – and so do his friends. He ends up getting the only job he can find: Feeding pigs. One day he is so hungry and so desperate he even tries some piggy food – “What am I doing” he says suddenly, as if he has woken from a nightmare. He spits – YUCK! – all of it – ICK! – out of his mouth. “My father is rich and here I am – in a pig sty, eating pig food!” He wipes his mouth and dusts himself off. “I’m going home!” And he starts for home, he begins to worry. “Dad won’t love me anymore. I’ve been to bad. He won’t want me for his son anymore.” So he practices his I’m-Sorry-Speech-I’ll-Pay-You-Back. {He thought “I’ll simply work for my dad until I pay him back. Maybe I can live with the neighbors.}” All this time, what he doesn’t know is that, day after day, his dad has been standing on his porch, straining his eyes, looking into the distance, waiting for his son to come home. He just can’t stop loving him. He longs for the sound of his boy’s voice. He can’t be happy until he gets him back. The {younger} son is still a long way off, but his dad sees him coming. What will the dad do? Fold his arms and frown? Shout, “That’ll teach you!” and “Just you wait, young man!” No. That’s not how this story goes. {The dad was waiting!} The dad leaps off the porch, races down the hill, through the gap in the hedge, up the rod. Before his {younger} son can even {finish} his I’m-Sorry-Speech-I’ll-Pay-You-Back-Speech, his dad runs to him, throws his arms around him, and can’t stop kissing him. {The dad hugged him tight and said very loudly “I love you my son!” Then he told people to help get him ready.} “Let’s have a party!” his dad shouts. “My {younger} boy’s home. He ran away. I lost him – but now I have him back! {Here is a ring of the family that I place on his finger so nobody has any doubts! This is my son!}” Jesus told them, “God is like the dad who couldn’t stop loving his boy. And people are like the son who said, “Does my dad really want to be happy?” Jesus told people this story to show them what God is like. And to show people what they are like. So they could know, however far they ran, however well they hid, however lost they were – it wouldn’t matter. Because God’s children could never run too far, or be too lost, for God to find them. {God’s love would save them!} {Then Jesus spoke about the older son. While all the celebrating of the younger son was going on the older son came home. This dad also had an older son who did good things – he worked the fields of his father and did what his father told him to do. The older son came to the house and asked one of his father’s servants “What is going on? What’s all the fuss about?” The servant said “Your younger brother is safe and has come home! Your dad is throwing a huge party!” This made the older brother very mad. He would not come in. This saddened his dad a lot. So the dad came out to talk to the older son and said: “Come in and see your brother! He’s come home!” The older son yelled at his dad saying “All these years I’ve served you. I never dishonored you and you didn’t ever throw ME a party this big! As soon as this rebellious son who has wasted what you gave him comes home you not only receive him back with a big hug but throw him the biggest party this town has ever seen! Haven’t I earned a big party too?” The dad calmly said: “You have been with me all these years. I love you. You can’t earn my love I simply choose to love you. What I have is yours. It is good for us to celebrate your brother returning home and the reunion of our family. Your brother left and was lost to us – he chose his own path.” And then in an excited voice the dad continued: “But now he’s back and so I threw a party.” So Jesus told this second part of the story to help the people see they couldn’t earn God’s love by simply doing good things. } ------ What are your thoughts?

Luke 15:11-32 11 Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. 14 But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. 15 Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. 17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, 19 and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’ 20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23 And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24 for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry. 25 “Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. 27 And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.’ 28 “But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. 29 So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 30 But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’ 31 “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’” Edit: Reference is to Luke 15 not Matthew 15.
