  1. I would like some thoughts and opinions on a specific subject within Daniel. Daniel’s 3 friends were required by Nebuchadnezzar to bow to the golden image when the music began to play. If they did not, they would be placed in the furnace. Question: Within this chapter (3), Daniel makes a point of listing the 6 individual instruments. Three times they are listed, however in one of the listings he fails to list one of the six instruments- the dulcimer. What do you think is the reason why this one instrument was not listed, AND, why was it listed in the specific place (that specific verse and place within this story), only 1 of the 3 times they were listed? PS: For me, everything He does has a very important purpose / reason, whether something is included or excluded. Perhaps the message speaks to having only 5 of the 6 instruments play (at that specific time in the story) telling us it would not be accepted by Him (5 of 6), since it was associated with an image... Perhaps He has special uses and purpose for music and His worship? Thank you, Charlie
  2. I have noticed there are a few Bob Dylan fans out there. So this thread is for all of you. You need to list your top 5 favourite Dylan songs of all time. But you are also welcome to add lyrics, quote songs and just generally discuss his music. You can also talk about other similar musicians or any music you happen to like that you think is relevant to the discussion. Please note: This is not a thread for debating what music may be listened to or not. If you want to talk about such things, start your own thread. If you think he is evil and want to say so, do it somewhere else. This is for those who like, listen to and enjoy his music or have something positive to add. My dad is a huge Bob Dylan fan. And so from a young age I have come to know his music. Now lets face it, he is not everyone's cup of tea. And while I personally think his way of singing brings the best out of the songs, he is definitely not going to win awards for the purity of his voice . And there have been many who have done a great job of covering his work (Joan Baez, the Byrds, etc) But he has had a major influence in music. He has a talent for writing incredible lyrics. Even Marlene Dietrich, the great German cabaret singer, sang one of his songs. So now I need to pick my 5 favourites. A difficult task. It changes with my mood, so this is a list of the ones I happen to like right now So in no particular order: Every Grain of Sand Desolation Row Visions of Johanna Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands Tambourine Man But let me just make it clear. that it doesn't scratch the surface of all the great songs he wrote.

  5. Shabbat shalom, everyone. This has been an issue for me in the past, and it still bugs me: reading music. I grew up in church, my father being a Baptist minister and my mother being a pianist/organist in our church, and I grew up with the old hymnals in the pockets of the pews ahead of you. Today, we have migrated to projectors on screens with worship leaders and worship teams. I've noticed, however, that this is leading to musical illiteracy! At least in the hymnals and song books of old, we had the notes written on staffs in measures marked with timing. We don't have that anymore in most churches to which I have gone over the last twenty years or so. Even as a child, I could tell from the notes on top when to go up or down in pitch when singing the melody! Now, what do we have? My mother was also an English major, and I grew up with her constant corrections in my grammar (some of which, quite frankly, NEVER took hold completely). I know and understand that living languages change, but there are REASONS for the punctuation that we use! There are good reasons for commas and their uses! Even the apostrophe is being lost in our modern, texting generation! One might see, "Johns cat" instead of "John's cat," being commonly written! This seems like a VERY big deal to me, because how do we know if someone is meaning to say "its glory" (the possessive form) or "it's glory" (meaning "it is glory")? Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't think so. What do you think? Any opinions?
  6. I just stumbled across this bit of news on my search engine. The music industry backed by Capitol Records is calling for a "Black Out Tuesday" in protest of the George Floyd incident. Well, here's the link but I'm not sure what they're expecting. Like radio broadcasts not to play any tunes that day? I don't know if sponsors are going to appreciate commercial losses of revenue unless they favor this. I guess we'll see. Or won't hear anything but dead air on the FM dial. I hope they don't expect me to avoid YouTube. I'm a daily listener. Music Industry Calls for Tuesday Blackout, Solidarity for ... https://variety.com/2020/music/news/music-industry-companies-blackout-george-floyd... 7. White Heart began their musical career in the early 1980's and spanned a number of Christian contemporary hits through the late 1990's. Their sound was sometimes progressive, but always had a terrific blend of vocal harmonies with numerous ballads as well. It was a fortunate fluke when a friend called up one night, saying he had gotten a couple of tickets to a sold out show on a local Christian station, KDUV. It was a wonderful concert also featuring dc Talk. Not every group I've seen over the years has an altar call at the conclusion of their performance, but White Heart did. What a blessed experience. Here is that song from the Power House album: Lay It Down.

  15. Greetings, I'm new here. As you may already know if you've read the title, my doubt is: is God telling me I can't listen to rock music? I already had wonder if rock music is inherently sinful or not before, so I already had investigated about the subject and had already prayed to the Lord for answers, and I had got to the conclusion that it's not sinful only if the song doesn't glorify sin, therefore that doubt has faded away that time. I want to point out that in the moment I had this doubt (before it rose again) I had abstained from listening to rock music. But now that doubt rose again (as I said before) because in short, after that doubt had faded, and I began to listen to rock music again, my health started to worsen forma a while (today I'm fine, thank God). Maybe it's just a coincidence. But I'm not so sure about that. So, since that time, the doubt rose again and I started to ask to myself "and if this is happening to me because listening to rock music is a sin and God is warning me...?" so, I started to ask God again to reveal me if this was happening to me because rock music is inherently sinful (regardless of whether it's christian or not). I asked Him this question several times. Sometimes I felt an ache after asking Him this question (maybe this is just a coincidence too). I felt a soft headache after I listened to a christian rock music yesterday at night. (Maybe this is a coincidence too and there's nothing wrong with that song. It doesn't has sinful lyrics). Sometimes when, after asking Him [this question] again, I requested Him to answer me throught Scripture's passages, and next opened up the Bible at a random page and read the passage (or just a portion of it) that my eyes first find. Sometimes I would find passages related to worship (e.g. Psalm 105); sometimes others related to repetance and God's mercy; and sometimes others related to happiness. I'm not even 100% sure if God was really speaking to me throught the words of these passages. Honestly, I'm confused. I really like rock music and I don't listen to rock music that have an anti-Christian message. But, I don't want to offend the Lord if listening to that kind of music is a sin. But, if it's not a sin and God wasn't telling me it's sinful, I would not want to avoid this music I like to listen thinking it's a sin to listen to it when it would be not (if it's not sinful) So, is God telling me I can't listen to it? Or maybe this happened to me for other reasons (maybe He just wanted to test me...?) and He never told me that? And, a question to those christians who likes to listen to rock music too: have you gone through what happened to me? Or by a similar case? By the way, if some things I've said are almost unintelligible, it's because I don't handle a professional english. Sorry if that's the case. Spanish's my native language. God bless you all.
  16. 17. Hello! Please excuse the long post, hear me out here... Let me start with a little backstory so you know where I'm coming from. I produce music (honestly blessed with the talent but I try to stay humble about it), DJ, and I enjoy almost anything with business. Last year I made a decision at a church camp to be open to any career choice that God gives me. Ever since that week, I fell in love with music production (particularly producing and performing electronic dance music). I truly, honestly have faith that this is for my future! Now I am at a huge fork in the road within my path with music. Should I pursue a career in secular music or Christian music? (Please hear me out) I have been putting some serious thinking, praying to God, and reading His word for the past half-year but nothing has come of it. Or I just haven't seen it yet. I don't know. Concerning a secular music career: I understand that we are called to be separate from the world. But with a secular career, you have a much broader range of people to be your audience. With a much broader range of people following you, you can be a good Christian example in the world to people who are living carnally. A "light in darkness" per se. I believe God has blessed me with the boldness and courage to proclaim to the world that I am not afraid to be a Christian and I am not changing my mind. With a secular music career, you have much more influence over a broader range of people that need it. This is especially the case in the world of live electronic dance music, where a hedonistic lifestyle is extremely prevalent. Like I said earlier, I have given careful thought to my next steps, I have prayed countless times over it, and I have consulted the Bible countless times over it. No answer has come of it yet. Or I just haven't seen it. A lot of the advice I've received is to "take the leap of faith and just go for it". However, I have done that with the decision to go all out for a career in being a DJ/producer for God's glory. I can't apply that to this fork in the road because I don't know which one to just "go for". I've been seriously, madly confused about this for months and I want to know which way God wants me to go. Any advice at all is so, so much appreciated. Thank you so much for your time, and have a blessed day.
  18. I found this Christian musician on Spotify. I love her music! So nice to listen to while we are busy around the house, eating, or just nice to have in the background playing that is relaxing, glorifying the Lord. Hope you like it!
  19. My mother was just listening to some old country western songs from the 60s and this song played. I wasn't really listening deeply but the final line caught me. So when she replayed it,I. Listened closely.. Read those lyrics and tell me if that song isn't suspect. This alsreminds me of something. Modern songs get flak by the older people for their vulgarity, but while it is justified, the older songs were pretty bad as well
  20. I was looking around youtube and found this video. I think it is delightful. Have a watch, then see the comments that floow in the next post!
  21. I recently got spoken to a pair of older christians expressing their disdain for music at a church. In short- the dont like the fact that the church uses choruses (they use a combination of hymns and choruses) and are adamantlyy in favour of the old hymns exclusivley. I didnt really bother agruging it knowing how hard it is to convince older people to change an opinion theyre used to, but i find the debate hilarious. Older people say they detest choruses, but younger or newer converts say they prefer choruses as the hymns make the service seem dead. Older people forget that whatever songs theyre used to had to be new at some point. some insturments are strictly off limits and seen as wrong, drums guitars etc. and other are ok. Forgetting that biblically lots of instruments were used. The piano (which wasnt invented yet) isnt there. But stringed instuments and i might be wrong drums were allowed .So whats yr opinion on what music should be played in church. my stance is this- the music leader consult God, follow his instructions on it and forget abt the tradition and pandering.
  22. I hope everyone here is doing well! I am putting together a list of songs that fit into many categories. Topics like Story, Friendship, Peace, Passion, Pain, etc. An example of Story would be: Big Daddy Weave - My Story Or under friendship Newsong - Sheltering Tree What are some that you can help me out with? THANKS SO MUCH!

  24. Does anyone know if church services driven by loud music and amplified media have to conform to standards and if anyone regularly checks them? I have worked in industrial machine shops quieter than the music service part of many churches I have been to to and I was forced to wear hearing protection at work for my own safety or get in trouble. Are churches now damaging hearing in the congregation for the sake of entertainment and re the guys on the mixing desk taught how to amplify sounds safely so church members are not damaged in any way? Imagine if one day a church got sued for it just like at work..
