It's Jewishness and the Hebrew words - I really love the fact it takes you back to the Bible's Jewish roots. I have felt for years that Christianity has become too commercialised and Westernised... One of my favourite places is in the old Jewish quarter of Jerusalem called Mea Shearim...at night especially it is almost like being in a dilapidated 19th Century Eastern European country, with the noises, the clothes, the HATS, the smells good and.... er lets just say interesting, but above all the people...when you get to speak to some of them they have such kind open hearts, and for the most part are extremely impoverished....and the kids are enchanting, running around laughing and playing in their little groups, or walking to a meeting with their family in their best clothes with serious ernest faces emulating their parents. But what you said above is exactly right ...it even goes beyond translation and gives you more of an authentic feel is the only way I can explain it....but obviously it is entirely personal to me. Would the Old Jewish Quarter STILL be like that today? Or was it recently you were there? Sounds like a different world.. I know in my heart I will get to Israel one day - have you ever had a "knowing"? Well that's what I have with Israel and I can't wait to go. Don't know how the Lord is going to work it all out but I trust Him. I've always had a closeness to the Mid East areas since I was quite young, and I have read a few testimonies of Christians and their descriptions of how the Lord led them to Israel either to live or for ministry for a short time and every time just makes me feel like jumping on a plane and jetting off. Yep...the old Jewish quarter is exactly like that...probably one of the few areas left in the world that has as authentic a feeling of what a shet'l must have been like....I was also at B'nei B'ret north of Tel Aviv, and it is similar. I think that once people have got over their curiosity and a desire to take a peek at this sort of life-style and community, and actually appreciate a certain uniqueness and human spirit that exists, and enter with humility and not as a brash in your face touristic opportunist, then you begin to see a different world and G-d touches your heart. I think people go through stages after encountering Israel, her people and life there....{and not all of it is good by any means....many parts of Israel are an eye-sore, with clusters of ugly concrete buildings imitating towns hugging the hilltops, simply because accomodation for so many people making aliya has to be quick and cheap}...often developing from a romantic sentimental attachment to something far more constant, meatier and meaningful. His girl, I think if you have a personal vision and hope regarding Israel, even just a short visit, then you should order your footsteps in that direction (prayerfully naturally)...and I will pray from time to time that you will find/discover/make the opportunity.
