How do you read the Bible?

Left to right :oww:

Sorry Ray..couldn't resist...

I usually just rely on what the Lord lays on my heart. He supplies ALL my needs...including my spiritual. I do, on occation use a devotional outline, but most the time I take a current life event, apply it to scripture and read & pray on it.

How about you ?

God bless,

Bob

I think it is best to start at the very beginning.

I read both Old and New. Kind of a Morning and Evening practice. Almost like reading 2 novels at the same time, but it amazing how God brings the messages of both together so well.

Chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Preferably first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Have on hand an Exhaustive Concordance and a good Bible Dictionary. Also, another great resource for "beginners" is Halley's Bible Handbook.

I have gone about it two different ways:

1- Read one book all the way through

2- Do a topical study (one subject) through the whole Bible, using a concordance or various reference books.

Both of these approaches can be very edifying. :)

Greetings Ray,

How do you read the Bible?

A couple verses come to mind:

Luke 8:18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

Psalm 119

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Either we can "hear" through our "carnal ears", OR we can "hear" through our "spiritual ears". Since the Word is "spiritual", I suggest you do the latter.

I have always done "word studies". Much like topical studies, but even more specific and we must always look to the "original autographs" meaning either look at the Hebrew or the Greek for the appropriate definitions. Our English Dictionary does not help at all.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

Lately Ive been reading it on the computer with my esword. I find myself flipping back and forth through all the translations I have, plus looking at the concordance and commentaries. I read a lot slower, but I am getting a bit more out of it.

Esword is a great free download, if anyone wishes to use it. User friendly and wow what you get with it. (Well mostly free. I had to pay for the NASB translation and concordance, which I wanted....and Im considering one bible word study dictionary too. So far everything else Ive wanted is free.) The basic first download has a KJV translation with Strong's concordance. You can write study notes too, great search engine......I love using it.

Guest Called

I have a 1 year Bible that I read everyday. I have that and a journal and I read it and meditate on it. I then write out my thoughts and really dig into it. There is a huge difference between just reading the Bible and really studying it.
