No, this isn't meant as a debate point. I'm just hoping one of the science researchers here can help me find an answer.

I was wondering if there is a known origin to freckles.

For example, I read about red hair arising in the Mid-Eastern regions (ancestors to the Celts).

Is there anything about freckles?

(Note: I have freckles.)

I dunno where they came from.

But my daughter is trying to genetically re-engineer humans to not have freckles by scratching them off anyone she sees.

Clusters of melanin ...as opposed to it being evenly spread throughout the body...IE..those with clusters will remain white in the sun..while the melanin pockets will go brown ( tan ) causing freckles .

Those with even melanin will tan evenly. ( lucky people ).

Nothing very spiritual about it.

I asked the first black woman I ever saw (I was five) why she had brown skin and she said "I'm just like you but Im just one big freckle" I still remember that.

Freckles are concentrated clusters of melanin and most often visible on people with a light complexion.
