Hello E&E -

Would you mind explaining how that interpretation is not taking the passage out of context?

I believe the treatment towards children is a good sign of the end. The abuse, murder, abortion and so much ugly stuff happening to children is a clear sign things are getting crazy. Sadly most people don't believe in an end.

in what other time but ours has there been chariots with flaming torches that can run by like lightning. the engines do rage in the streets. I believe its showing a glimpse into the future.

Context means reading the verse as a part of the the entire passage with the surrounding verses.

Nahum 2:1-13 " A shatterer has come up against you. Guard the ramparts; watch the road; gird your loins; collect all your strength. (For the Lord is restoring the majesty of Jacob, as well as the majesty of Israel, though ravagers have ravaged them and ruined their branches.) The shields of his warriors are red; his soldiers are clothed in crimson. The metal on the chariots flashes on the day when he musters them; the chargers prance. The chariots race madly through the streets, they rush to and fro through the squares; their appearance is like torches, they dart like lightning. He calls his officers; they stumble as they come forward; they hasten to the wall, and the mantelet is set up.The river gates are opened, the palace trembles. It is decreed that the city be exiled, its slave women led away, moaning like doves and beating their breasts. Nineveh is like a pool whose waters run away. "Halt! Halt!"

true that

what is this verse about

Nahum 2:4 The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

they shall justle one against another?

they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.?

:noidea:

Sounds like a description of automobiles to me.....

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." I Peter 3:15

Nahum 2 (KJV)

1 He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong , fortify thy power mightily. 2 For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out , and marred their vine branches. 3 The shield of his mighty men is made red , the valiant men are in scarlet : the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation , and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken . 4 The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings. 5 He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared . 6 The gates of the rivers shall be opened , and the palace shall be dissolved . 7 And Huzzab shall be led away captive , she shall be brought up , and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

How does the rest of the passage have to do with modern times?

And what does interpreting vs. 4 as cars have to do with the rest of the passage?

How does this fit with Paul's clear teaching that the Advent will come like a thief in the night in 1 Thessalonians 5?

www.studyyourbibleonline.com

it fits in clearly with pauls teaching because jesus gave us the signs to look out for, not WHEN it will happen.

and even if there was some "so called" contradiction between what jesus and paul said, i would always stick with what jesus says over what paul said.

E&E, no disrespect but that is taking scripture out of context. remember when the scriptures were first wrote down that it didn't have chapters and verses. that is why its SO IMPORTANT to read it with an unbiased mind and without any preconceived ideas about what that verse is saying....in other words-simply just let the bible interpret itself.

also in the context of nahum chapter 2 it is talking about Israels enemy, the people of media and babylon, and in that time period those people used shields and chariots that they colored red. (as a symbol to represent their country)
